Heartbreak

Posted without comment.  None needed.

From a Facebook post by photographer Mary Mathis:

“I shot the Kavanaugh protests this morning for NPR, and this is the photo that will always stick with me. I walked up to her after, needing her name for the photo but knowing it was a terrible time to ask. When I asked, she ignored me and said, “How are we going to find the strength to keep fighting?” I was speechless.

She said, ‘Are we going to be out here for another 30 years? I don’t have 30 years left.'”

It’s Because We’re Lazy

I can bring home the bacon,
Fry it up in pan,
And never, even let you
Forget you’re a man.
Because I’m a woman,
w-o-m-a-n.

And here’s the Chuck Grasley version

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa) predicted that there would be more Republican women on his panel next year, after suggesting that the panel’s workload was a deterrent.

“It’s a lot of work – maybe they don’t want to do it,” Mr. Grassley told reporters. “My chief of staff of 33 years tells me we’ve tried to recruit women and we couldn’t get the job done.”

Mr. Grassley later returned to clarify that he did not mean to imply women could not handle the committee’s workload, but rather that it made it less appealing to senators of both genders.

Yeah, that’s what you meant, Chuck. Sure thing.

Chuck, Honey, there’s only five Republican women in the entire Senate.  Democrats have 5 women on the judiciary committee alone.  So you have two on the judiciary committee. Maybe it’s just Republican women who are lazy, huh?  I know Susan Collins is intellectually lazy.  Does that count?

Jerk. That man is five pounds of arrogance in a two pound bag.

I’ve Got a Sid Miller Story

October 05, 2018 By: Juanita Jean Herownself

About a year ago, Washington Post cartoonist Ann Telnaes did a cartoon depicting a stylized woman standing next to a sideways GOP elephant.  The elephant had its trunk up the woman’s skirt.  It was funny.

So when Marion Stanford of Hamilton, Texas, drew one of her own to put in her front yard, she meant it to make a point – just not the point Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller’s sicko mind thought it meant.

Sid Miller was outraged, outraged I tell you, at this sign in Marion’s front yard.  Sid took himself to Facebook to post pictures of the sign and claim, by gawd, it’s was Brett Kavanaugh’s daughter.  Yes, absolutely, Marion drew a picture of Brett Kavanaugh’s daughter for the sole purpose to ridicule Kavanaugh’s daughter.

I dunno, but I’m pretty sure that Kavanaugh’s daughters have arms, and maybe noses.  I hope you recall what I always say, “They first step to becoming a Republican is a humorectomy.” Sid and his supporters were so appalled by this yard sign that they called the cops.

The damn police.

They called the police contending the sign was pornographic and suggested that Marion was probably a pedophile.

“This is not something a reputable, respected politician would do,” Stanford said of Miller’s post. “There’s nothing in my sign that remotely suggests it’s Kavanaugh’s daughter.”

No matter, the police show up and the story gets weirder.

Here’s Marion’s side …

“Police told me to remove the sign or they would take it and would arrest me,” Stanford said. “So I let them take the sign.”

And here’s the city manager’s side …

It’s political season, and a citizen here placed a yard sign that featured a political animal taking an inappropriate position with a young child,” Pete Kampfer said. “A police member visited the owner’s home, and the owner asked the officer to take the sign.”

Okay, see, I don’t believe Marion would tell the police to take the sign without them suggesting something bad would happen if she didn’t.  After all, that sign would bring a hefty bid at a Democratic political auction.

Y’all, these people are sick. But what can you expect from “Trump’s Man in Texas.”

Thanks to everybody for the heads up.

Desperate

October 05, 2018 By: El Jefe

Earlier this week I asked why in the hell Trump would be so stupid as to nominate such a horrible candidate for the Supreme Court.  As his nomination to the highest court staggers toward a vote in the Senate, I ask, why in the hell would said horrible candidate publish an op-ed in the WSJ essentially apologizing for his horrible behavior in a nationally televised Judiciary Committee meeting?  The pretty certain answer is that he and Trumpland are now desperate.  Despite a mountain of evidence, coast to coast protests, mounting opposition by the ACLU, the American Bar Association, Yale Law, over a thousand law professors, and millions of Americans,  Senate Fascist Mitch McConnell is pushing ahead for a confirmation vote.  The backlash from the sparse FBI investigation whitewash is only making matters worse.

McConnell’s problem, though?  He doesn’t have the votes.  Axios is reporting that Republicans don’t have 50 and that senators are “walking on quicksand”.  At least 4 senators are undecided, but they’re not the only ones.  Polls are now beginning to move against senators for supporting Kavanaugh, so the Repubs (and Joe Manchin) face the classic politician’s dilemma: be an asshole to protect your seat, or do the right thing.

I don’t believe it’s as solid as Herr McConnell is making it out to be.
