A few days ago, I pointed out that the Texas Republican Party was going ahead with its real person adventure in disease spreading at their state convention in Houston to nominate Donald Trump for president.  I mean, at this point, what do they have to lose?

The only sticky part I had with this is that the Texas Medical Association was sponsoring the convention.  I asked you guys to contact them to ask what the hell. Boy howdy, you did good.

The next day –

So, they decided to have a virtual meeting to decide if they should meet in public.  Members of the State Republican Executive Committee voted whether or not to have the state convention virtually (like the Democrats did) or to spread some damn germs.

The germs won.

At 10:30 last night, they issued their decision.

Weirdly, the vote took place just five hours after Governor Greg Abbott issued an edict that we all have to wear masks or get fined $250.

And then 30 minutes later (which was late, late last night) the Texas Medical Association withdrew their sponsorship of the convention.

Just a little brag here but the Texas Democratic Party met virtually, lost no sponsors or delegates, and raised twice as much money as we have ever raised at any state convention.  There were plenty of little private Zoom meetings to chat with your friends over adult beverages in the evening, and you got to see all the candidates.  All the business got done, we have a platform and national delegates, and all the electronics worked like magic.

Let’s all keep an eye on the Texas Republican Party sponsors and see who else bows out.  Well, danged, I just went to their webpage and I cannot find a list of sponsors.  That’s odd.  Check if you have a chance.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott finally issued a mask order for the large cities and counties in this state.  You’ll get a warning the first time you’re caught without a mask and a $250 fine the second time.

Now let me tell you a story, newly elected Harris (think Houston) County Judge Lina Hidalgo, a Democrat, tried the same thing several weeks ago. Texas Republicans called her a tyrant and the governor overruled her, shaking his finger at her.  They clutched pearls, and called names, and put the back of their hands against their foreheads, and swore an oath to protect democracy against people’s rights to kill other people.

You know what they are calling the governor today?  Groundbreaking.  A damn hero.

But Honey, a 29 year old Latina is still a tyrant.

If only Abbott had listened to her.

Okay, so now we are being told that a small-time drug dealer in Afghanistan became the middle man in the bounties being paid for killing American soldiers.

Azizi collected the money supplied by the Russian military intelligence agency, the GRU, in Russia, and is reportedly believed to have paid Taliban-linked militants in Afghanistan through other countries. The bounties netted upwards of $100,000, according to Afghan officials cited in The Times.

Azizi frequently traveled between Russia and Afghanistan, “but no one knew what he did,” a provincial leader said, The Times reported. Friends claimed they weren’t surprised by the outcome after seeing the smuggler “not even having a blanket” to owning several high-end cars and bodyguards. One of his homes was also upgraded to become a four-story villa, The Times reported.

Both Trump and Russia are denying the report, while even members of NATO say they were briefed on it.

I’m just waiting for the selfie picture with Azizi and Don, Jr. at Mar a Lago. After all, I’m sure they can share stories about selling out America to the Russians while living the fancy life.

Senate Republicans, who literally have nothing to do because Trump does it all for them, tackled one of the most important issues of our time. These are life or death times and Republicans knew that spending time on this vital issue could be what saves America:  they removed the measure demanding that candidates who are offered help or assistance from a foreign country report it.

Phew! I’ll sleep better tonight.  Wait, wait, I didn’t mean me, I meant Putin will sleep better tonight.

A measure requiring presidential campaigns to report any attempts by foreign entities interfering in U.S. elections was stripped by Senate Republicans as a condition of passing the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) in a “backroom deal” Sen. Mark Warner, D-VA., said Tuesday.

I don’t know, y’all.  Now Trump is saying he’ll veto the same bill if we change the names of military bases from the currently honored traitors to true American heroes.

Call their bluff and stop all this Support The Troops crapola that Republicans think they own.
