If The Virus Was Really Wanting to Help

March 22, 2020 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Okay, I agree that nobody, and I mean nobody, in the Senate deserves this more

Kentucky Republican Rand Paul is the first US senator to test positive for coronavirus, according to a statement on Twitter.

… however, if it wanted to help, it would have hit Mitch.

  1. Supposedly he had asymptomatic yet he was able to get tested.
    Why?

  2. Sorry.
    Was asymptomatic, not had!

Edit: Sanders Calls for ‘Unprecedented Legislative Response’ to Coronavirus Crisis—Not Corporate Bailouts

“Now is not the time to allow large corporations to take advantage of this horrific crisis by ripping off U.S. taxpayers and profiteering off of the pandemic,” the Vermont senator said in a statement Sunday.

Edit: The $1 trillion stimulus bill is being drafted in the Senate and the chamber’s leadership aims to vote on the legislation on Monday. Reportedly included in the bill are a number of provisions assisting industries affected by the fallout from the coronavirus outbreak—huge bailouts that Sanders said were too much to ask the American taxpayer for in a time of crisis.
Corporate Entitlements – Belly up to the trough, CEO’s, et al.
    According to Sanders:
Just in the last few days, we’ve seen numerous examples of lobbyists and their agents fighting for special favors: the airline industry is asking for $50 billion, the private space industry is asking for $5 billion, the hotel industry wants $150 billion, the National Association of Manufacturers wants $1.4 trillion, the International Council of Shopping Centers wants a guarantee of up to $1 trillion, Adidas wants to sneak in a long-sought provision allowing people to use pretax money to pay for gym memberships and fitness equipment—even when many gyms and retail stores are closed nationwide, and corporate pork producers are using the coronavirus to push Congress to expedite guest worker visas, even at a time when international travel and immigration is largely shut down.

Very good, Senator. And, what have we learned today about social distancing? Hey, maybe by next week Moscow Mitch will learn all about teleconferencing. SMDH

  7. Here’s a handy tip for Republicans who test positive with COVID-19 and then discover there’s a shortage of expectorant cough medications, for clearing breathing passages. It’s unconfirmed (just like Dr. Trump’s Malaria & Coronavirus Syrup) but try this:

Take a deep breath, fill your lungs to capacity if you can. Then, exhale saying as loud and emphatically as possible “hypocrite!” Or if you have strength for an extra syllable, “hypocrisy! That should shake a few things loose.

    7
  8. Trust Karma to get all of them sooner or later.

  9. I’m sorry to say this but the Trump is a Traitor. What’s he hoping to do? Has he acted in any way where you’d give an unqualified whoopee? And the qualified ones involve states which have found resources of their own and the trampling trump moves to claim it as his own.

And the Nihilist party cheers on

    9
  10. But remember that the thuglicans were the ones proposing forced detention/ quarantine camps for AIDS patients in the 80’s and one of their arguements for a “wall” is the need to stop any infectious diseases that “those” people would be bringing with them.

  13. Since the thuglicans are so enamoured with the free market let them be forced to put it to the test.
Instead of the government choosing “winners and losers” between industry’s and companies ensure that every penny of any economic stimulus goes to individuals, let the marketplace choose winners and losers.
Not one penny of aid to any company that either has more then 20 employees ( counting contract and temps – so outside contracted cleaning crew counts against number) and does more then a $1 million in revenues, that way the sacred marketplace that the thuglicans worship on their knees is the deciding who the winners and losers not the big bad government.
If people decide not to fly let the airlines go under, if people don’t buy gas let exxon go bankrupt.
After all that wouls be the marketplace deciding.
    Anything else is just socialism.

On today’s tRump presscon, I didn’t see Dr Fauci [though I was late tuning in].
Why? Dr Fauci has recently pointed out some of tRump’s bullshit, has he been fired? This is –scary–.
Earlier saw the FEMA head Gaylord on MTP and TW, where he deflected and diverted away from a number of important questions.
We have a major pandemic and most of what we get from these cretins is bullshit.

After that preying menace Pence asked people to send in their grocery money to fund the charlatans, taxing them went up another notch on my bucket list.

Here’s an example of pandemic price-gouging [from a Newegg ‘marketplace vendor’, who sell through an automatic process, so don’t blame Newegg, yet].
All of the sudden there are lots of masks for sale on Newegg, some look dodgy, most over-priced.

I got a box of ~10[?] of this exact 3M N95 mask [for dust] item some years ago at Lowes or HD, for about $10 [still have them].
This ripoff vendor wants freakin’ $10+$5 shipping [5 bucks! for a 1oz soft item in a ziplock bag!] for 1 damned mask :

  20. Jane & PKM says:

joel hanes, those are the ‘leaders’ who are supposed fix this mess. When 47% Romney looks good against that backdrop, the Republicon Party is so over. Trick for the next couple of months is to not be dragged into the undertow with them when their ship sinks.

The good news is that some of the critical port and international airport states are Blue states with Democratic governors. If Cuomo and De Blasio can hold the line in NY, while CA, WA and OR hold the Pacific West, we may survive this mess despite the ***king moron* and Republicons.

    20
  21. Jane & PKM says:

Sandridge, it’s called war profiteering. One might think war pResident* Donnie* would use his* magical powers to stop that. Oh wait .. if he* unleashed Billy Bob Barr to prosecute war profiteers he* and the “kids” plus Jughead might be the first catch in the dragnet.

    21
  22. joel hanes says:

    Jane & PKM

Ports and airports no longer have much to do with it — that was an issue for January, and we didn’t do it.

The virus is in every state, and in most towns of any size, and there’s almost certainly a hundred or more undetected cases for every official confirmed positive test result — more in places in which there has been very little testing.

Everyone should be self-isolating to the degree possible. Everyone should be wearing masks when out of the house, even if they have to improvise one from a bandana, as I do.

    22
  23. joel hanes says:

    war profiteering

Trump has openly stated that the reason that he has not used his emergency powers to compel production of masks, PPE, and ventilators is that the companies don’t want that — what he didn’t say is that they want to use this opportunity to push the prices up so that they can make big profits off the captive market.

Trump doesn’t see anything wrong with that.
In his moral universe, war profiteers are “smart”.

    23
  24. Sandridge says:

    Today’s tRump-Pence coronavirus presscon:
Three of the four major networks cut away from it while in progress after a half-hour or so, one Sinclair-owned station stayed with it for well over an hour.
It was the usual trumpian bullshit, Dr T rambling all over, CYA, asskissingbuttsucking toadies, etc. No network should be running these daily campaign rallies.

US stock market futures went down over 900pts after this presscon began, so -watch out Monday!-. The DJIA just may hit my predicted 15,000pts and continue diving.

Local news has been mentioning low gas prices [$1.78+ in Bexar], and how they may drop 40-70cents more.
Just as I predicted weeks ago: $1.10-1.25/gal soon, could even go below $1/gal. Like early ’70’s-’80’s prices iirc. We used to cross the border to buy 15-25cent/gal Pemex back then, smelly rough-running crap, but when your fill-up took 100 gallons, worth it, just imagine $15-25 for 100/gal. Don’t look at me, I’m trying to go EV.

    24
  25. Jane & PKM says:

joel hanes, those states are still an issue because of what the ***king moron* and his* maladministration failed to do. That’s the concentration of the pandemic. They can hold the “edges” against a 2nd and even 3rd outbreak. The next major obstacle are the red states and will they quarantine. We can do this by May 1st, if those governors break from Donnie*. Otherwise 3 weeks to flatten the curve becomes 9 months or more.

You’re correct. masks are vital. Because no one knows if they are infected, as a precaution we should all act as if we were to protect everyone.

    25
  26. joel hanes says:

    ah, sorry to have misunderstood.

Fortunately, the Bay Area and New York and the Seattle area are already pretty close to lockdown.

I’m sorry to say that I expect Dallas to be one of the next centers of infection, along with the senior communities of Florida.

    26
  27. Sandridge says:

Jane & PKM & joel hanes @20&22, rAmen to that. I was just shocked to see it at a website I check every day [the Newegg ‘Shellshocker’ hot deals page, sometimes has great ones].

Grifting, war profiteering, beautiful deals, yaddayada, it’s ‘the new normal’.
And Comrade Donnei’s polled approval numbers are freaking going up.

Not Only will this wipe out all gains under the Orange Shitgobblin, it will substantially eat into Obama’s recovery gains of his final years.
Forget Recession. We are nearing Depression levels. And all within 6 weeks of an all-time record Dow level near 30,000.

  29. Jane & PKM says:

Runt Paul, steps in it and is an inadvertent ‘hero.’

“Negotiations continued even as the initial procedural vote fell short, with 47 senators voting in favor and 47 opposed. The tally was well short of the 60 votes that were needed to move forward. The number of “aye” votes was especially low because five Republicans are quarantined over coronavirus fears.”

Ironic. Democrats could become the Senate “majority” due to attrition of Republicons not following CDC guidelines. As Rummy would say, “national emergency, so we go with the Senate we have.” If Senate Democrats are smart, they’ll quarantine Mnunchin to a separate room with Moscow Mitch, then lock the door.

  31. Sandridge @ 24,

There’s a bunch of ladies in my neighborhood that are sewing cotton surgical masks for the desperate medical personnel at hospitals here who are severely short of disposable masks. My bet is that this group of ladies may be able to get masks out sooner than the dispoables arriving from a warehouse.

    32
  33. We’ve been sitting here in Juneau on edge waiting for our first case. It showed up today. We’re behind you in this pandemic’s numbers, and all our communities are pretty much isolated from each other so that may help, but it has begun and is increasing in Alaska.

    33
  34. Sandridge says:

Papa @31, No doubt they will. Almost everything you hear at T-P’s CV-19 Task Force is utter bullshit or propaganda.
Trouble is, it seems to be working, despite the idiocy , CYA, and asskissing, their approval numbers are going up. I don’t like to think about how gullible and dumb those many people lapping this shit up are [and where it has, is, and will take us].

75% chance, imo, the markets have a serious meltdown [again] Monday.

Guy at the Fed, Bullard, thinks we have 30% unemployment, GDP down 50% [hard to believe, maybe 5%/misprint?], by end of April!
Anywhere near those numbers and this country is cratering. I’ve been very pessimistic so far, but seeing others who are predicting far worse…

Welp, the gold-plated asshole said he’d roll back everything Pres Obama did.
While not entirely Obama’s ‘boom & bull market’, the DJIA had fallen to less than ~7000 when Obama came in; it was ~19000 when he handed over to tRump. Up ~12000 points in Obama’s term.
Rump has rolled back the ~11000pt advance momentum while he’s occupied our WH [was 30K peak just two months ago]. And much of the loss can be linked directly to the Jackass-in-Chief and his very carefully selected, best-in-class minions [Kudlow, Mnuchin, Ross, Pompeo, etcetc].

Pretty good chance he can now rollback Obama’s 12000pts, and then some. DJIA down to 6000 by Nov? Go for it, Donnei!

  36. Jane & PKM says:

Ben McAdams (D-UT) was hospitalized for “shortness of breath.” His blood O2 level were down, so he was given oxygen. He is doing better, talking, making statements, etc. But there is a reason this virus is being called novel, it seems to be unique and different. Different from other viruses and different among patients.

This is also why it’s important for someone from the CDC to speak. Not to wash away our fears, but to reassure us and end the hysteria that has led to the hoarding of unnecessary supplies while ignoring positive things we could be doing. Because Donnie* can’t do that. No one would believe him* if he* were to tell the truth for once in his* miserable life. And, of course, he* hasn’t been truthful yet about this virus pandemic.

Looking for a site with the best proactive advice and will share, if one is discovered. Most of you have probably heard “call your doctor if” but what they don’t say is why. The “why” is if you have one, your health care provider knows you and your medical history. That saves time which save lives.

The other ‘debate’ is masks. No, even the N-99 model is not fully effective at protecting you. However, even a dust mask is somewhat effective at preventing someone who is infected from spreading the virus. If there wasn’t a shortage, everyone wearing one would be part of the solution, but “social distancing” is effective, especially when combined with proper hygiene (hand washing.)

    36
  37. Jane & PKM @ 36,

I am over 65 and one of those has to shelter in place to survive. Although I have a full pantry, I will eventually have to leave my house for supplies. Grocery delivery here is spotty, if you can get it at all. So I am going to sew up a few masks for myself. It might give me more protection in public along with social distancing. Anyway, it can’t hurt to try. My own doc has told me to stay home and nothing else…

    37
  38. Jane & PKM says:

Papa, is there any local support system in your area? Perhaps someone to deliver groceries and any other supplies you need? If your doctor’s office can’t answer those types of questions, try your local newspaper or county social services. And, you are correct, if you must go out wearing a mask and social distancing will help. But if all possible try to “shelter in place” and reach out to have what you need delivered to you.

Texans and WMDBS, I am woefully ignorant of what is available in Texas, and more specifically where Papa lives. Can anyone here fill us in?

Some good news. There may be a vaccine coming, and Donnie* ain’t gonna like it because the vaccine will most likely come from Cuba, or maybe China.

“Most noteworthy, Cuba, even with its resources severely constrained by the U.S. embargo/blockade, can justly claim the moral high ground for cooperation and solidarity with victims of the coronavirus. Several years ago Cuba entered into a joint Chinese-Cuban effort to produce antivirals, a class of drugs that fight a virus’s ability to replicate, while awaiting the development of actual vaccines. Sharing their technology with the Chinese a jointly operated facility was built and opened in China. One of the drugs, IFNrec, is now being employed by the Chinese National Health Commission to fight the coronavirus based on its effectiveness shown previously against viruses with characteristics similar to those of the COVID-19. Cuba’s biomedical technology and social goals, unlike so much of the pharmaceutical world, is focused on the need to help viral victims, not the drive to make a profit.”

  39. Jane & PKM says:

Y’all gonna “love” this like any topic that begins with “if Donnie* were a man” he’d ____. But here’s what a little rattlesnake is doing in Mississippi. Gov. Tate Reeves (R) won’t close the beaches, ban social gatherings, or restrict businesses, but he did offer a prayer for Mississippi yesterday. That is where the “if” starts, this is a situation where the federal government should stomp on one Tate Reeves. If not doing an RFK to send in the National Guard, then at least pull the plug on any federal funds Tate is receiving. Republicons seem to respond to money being given or taken away from them.

Interesting situation. Since it’s probable Donnie* won’t act, what about the Governors in the states surrounding Tate? Not good. Red state surrounded by red states. Nearest “help” would be Mexico or Cuba. I like the irony of Cuba returning the embargo favor in this instance or Mexico sending an armada across the gulf.

    39
  40. Jane & PKM says:

Papa, we haven’t forgotten about you. Just a thought, but contact your Senators and House Rep. Our Senator actually sent us a list of services available in NV, so maybe you can embarrass one or two of yours into working for the people. Also if the schools in your area haven’t been closed, contact the local university sororities and/or fraternities who are often looking for projects to help the community. They might even appreciate an idea or two.

    40
  41. The Surly Professor says:

Papa: Friday I went out on a combined shopping trip for my house and two others on my street. I’m also over 65 and have had asthma in the past. But we’ve put together a rota of who goes to the grocery store so that we can reduce the number of trips per house by 2/3.

You might consider something similar, if you’ve got neighbors in hollering range. One tip: more important than face mask is gloves. If you don’t have disposable surgical gloves, wear the cheap brown cloth ones, then dump them into the washer after each trip. Or the big ugly yellow rubber ones, then wash them in alcohol.

Another tip: I’ve found that it takes forever to find things roaming a store. My wife and I have a set of staples and I know their locations. But it took me way too long to find pads for a neighbor’s daughter, and several speciality things like soy milk I had to hunt for.

So I’ve drawn a rough map of the local Kroger’s, and sent everyone copies electronically. Along with their list, they indicate the location of anything beyond the basic milk and eggs. It easily takes only 1/4 as long to do the combined shopping that way.

I also recommend keeping up your sense of humor. My wife prevented me from delivering the groceries with a wheelbarrow and a bell, calling out “bring out your dead”. She has no sense of humor.
