Well, Damn

September 10, 2019 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

First up, tomorrow is moving day, Thursday Bubba and I have tickets to the presidential debate, and Friday we close on this house so I’m gonna be busy as Trump on Twitter.  Be nice to El Jefe. He’s a friend and I like him.  He’s also smart, stubborn, and ready to pick a fight – just the kind of people I like.

Meanwhile, I want you to notice this.  Imagine if President Barack Obama had planned a secret meeting with the Taliban during the week of 9/11 at Camp David against the advice of everyone else in the administration.  Yeah, think about that.

Be social and share!

  1. Now I have to stop thinking about it. My head hurts.

  2. The only advice I can give, aside from hiring half a dozen guys to do it, is stay hydrated.

    OT – TAKING A SOUNDING ON 2020

    N. Carolina special election tests Trump, 2020 GOP prospects
Both sides saw Tuesday’s contest as too close to call — in itself an ominous sign for Republicans.

Over half the district’s votes will likely come from Charlotte’s suburbs. As Democrats captured 39 GOP-held seats last November and took control of the House, many of their pickups were in suburbs — even in red states like Texas, Kansas, Utah, South Carolina and Oklahoma.

Special elections generally attract such low turnout that their results aren’t predictive of general elections, especially in presidential years.

Even so, Tuesday’s vote will be scrutinized for signals about whether GOP erosion in such communities has continued, particularly among women and college-educated people who have abandoned Trump in droves over his conservative social policies and vitriolic rhetoric on immigration and race.

  3. Oh yeah, this is for EJ:

OT – Trump fires hardline National security advisor.

It was that damn soup strainer on his face. But hey, we wish him well in his next temp position going forward.

    post further on down.

  4. Here’s something for anyone believing a Democratic victory in 2020 is inevitable. Never underestimate the power of human stupidity:

Many U.S. farmers fume at Washington, not Trump, over biofuel, trade policies
    Reuters
    P.J. Huffstutter, Tom Polansek

Trump has faced backlash from agricultural groups, ethanol producers and Midwestern politicians upset that his trade war with China has slashed export sales of U.S. soybeans and other crops. Also, Corn futures tumbled after the government forecast a big crop when a flood-ridden spring stalled plantings. Corn-based ethanol plants shuttered after the administration granted waivers to dozens of exempting oil refineries.

Yet polls show that while Trump’s support in farm country has slipped, it remains substantial.

Instead of directing their anger at Trump, dozens of farmers interviewed by Reuters blasted the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and other Washington institutions they believe are thwarting his true agenda. Unsubstantiated conspiracy theories involving USDA staff are circulating in farm country and gaining traction online.

This is just the start – Trump’s road to a 2020 win is not through
his popularity, but through how much hate and fear he can instill against Democrats in red states. Pity the Democratic Party ignored Howard Dean’s 50-state policy .

  5. Sam in Superior says:

First of all, good luck with the move. I’m debating whether I want to move again or just stay where I am until I die. It’s a trade-off.

I live just south of Superior, WI and I see and hear a lot of angst about Trump’s farm-killing trade policy. I think a substantial number of farmers will vote for a Democrat if they can connect on a personal level. That’s why I like Elizabeth Warren; she has a well-thought plan for everything.

    Who can take a hurricane

    Wrap it up in lies
Tell the folks down south, like it was some big surprise

    The racist weatherman can

    The racist weatherman can

The racist weatherman can ’cause he’s fascist to the bone when he’s left alone
Yes, he spews out all his lies till they’re covered up in flies

Shame on all you guys, you’re worse than Dolt 45

The fascist weatherman can ’cause he screws with people’s minds and makes the world f***ed up

  7. If President Obama had brought a secret convoy of Taliban representatives to Camp David, it may not have successfully brokered peace in Afghanistan, but it certainly would have brought down Fox News. Every head at the network would have exploded as they scrambled, sprinted, and prepped
Teleprompter copy and Chyron feeds. It would have been a mess for the janitors.

  8. Brad in Dallas says:

I’m getting a little annoyed with the “Imagine what would happen if Obama had…” meme. The answer isn’t funny, it’s cruel and unfair and wildly undemocratic and soul-crushing, and I hate being reminded that we live in that world.

  9. Karen Crosby says:

Good luck with your move, etc.

  10. My sympathies for what you are facing.
    Good Luck.

Hope you’re headed North of I-10, should help to reduce your fear of Rethug-induced sea level rise.

  12. Brad in Dallas:
I think a lot of folks here can relate. Some of us are just in a different place with regards to dealing with it.
A piece called “Trump Is Not Well” came out in The Atlantic a couple of days ago that should be required reading for anybody suffering from Trump-whiplash/gaslighting.
It actually talks about coping mechanisms.
    I highly recommend it.

  13. OT: I don’t know if Molly Ivins is/was JJ’s soulmate, but I know they’re cut from the same cloth. If you didn’t know Molly, here’s a nice reminder: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/08/opinion/molly-ivins-raise-hell.html

  14. NOAA ships are based in the bay in my smallWest coast town (Coast Guard is also here). One of the ships was heading out to sea this evening as my dog and I walked on the beach (also saw a CG chopper). I hope it’s clear to most people that it wasn’t the NOAA professionals who pulled the “defend Dotard45 tweet stunt”. I’m afraid the rank and file get blamed for bad decisions the political types make. My dad was a career federal employee, an engineer with the USGS, so maybe I take it personally. The farmer comments blaming the USDA instead of Dotard45 made me think of that.

  15. Good one, megasoid!
JJ, i’m going to say what I always say to people facing tough but necessary things: have as much fun as you can! Seriously, all best wishes.

  16. The Surly Professor says:

djw: Yup, Molly Ivins, JJ Herownself, Ann Richards (TX governor before Bush, and how the hell did Texas trade her in for that pathetic ass?), Barbara Jordan and many other hell-raising women are the best product Texas has provided the country with.

    16
  17. Best of luck with the move, JJ. We all like El Jefe, so no problem there, as long as there are Friday Toons as always.

  18. Hannah @14, You might be in the same place as some of my Coastie kids, they recently had a PCS out there to a nice CG Sector [cutters, boats, and Air Station] in a fairly small town with water all around.
