Polling Shows Sanders Extending Lead Among Hispanics Ahead of Nevada Caucuses”
Edit: Polling from across the nation finds Sen. Bernie Sanders extending his lead among Hispanic voters in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary as the contest heads to Nevada, where the demographics are likely to favor the Vermont senator and his multiracial coalition.
“Bernie Sanders is building the most diverse movement in America, pass it on,” tweeted journalist Travis Reilly.

    More Pollingtics:
Bernie Sanders is leading the 2 most important states on SuperTuesday
Why Bernie Sanders’s polling leads in California and Texas are so important.
Doubling Sen. Bernie Sanders now holds critical polling leads in the 2020 Democratic primary: New surveys show him ahead in California and Texas, the biggest prizes in the upcoming Super Tuesday elections on March 3.

    *********************************

Democratic National Convention delegates, a majority of the nearly 4,000 up for grabs. Almost one out of every five delegates — 17 percent — will be won on March 3, Super Tuesday, in California and Texas.

The former has 416, the most in the country; the latter has 261, the third most.
The delegates are being awarded proportionally, so Sanders won’t be taking all of those 670-some delegates. Biden, Warren, Buttigieg, and Bloomberg are all above or near the 15-percent threshold to win delegates in some states. And because delegates are distributed based in part on geography, candidates must have widespread support — a narrow plurality might not mean a delegate victory, as Sanders experienced in Iowa already.

Still, viewing the race broadly, Sanders looks on track to win the most delegates of any candidate.

But can he win a majority, or will Democrats be heading to an open convention in July? The FiveThirtyEight forecast currently gives Sanders a 37 percent chance of winning a delegate majority, given his strong showing in Iowa and New Hampshire and his good national and upcoming state polls. But it actually gives “no one” the same chance. Biden is next, at 12 percent. Bloomberg has crept up to 8 percent; Buttigieg sits back at just 4 percent.
Given the unsettled state of the primary after two contests, Super Tuesday is taking on all the more importance. About a third of the pledged convention delegates, coming from 14 states plus a few territories, will be won. It could be a big day for Sanders, if the polling matches the turnout

Appeals court deals blow to Trump’s Medicaid work rules

Edit: WASHINGTON — The Trump administration’s effort to remake Medicaid by requiring low-income people to work for health care suffered a serious setback Friday when a federal appeals court ruled it goes beyond what’s allowed by law.

The unanimous decision by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit means President Trump will have little to show for one of his major health care initiatives ahead of the November elections.
The case involves Arkansas, but the ruling is expected to affect other states pursuing work requirements.
The court found that it is “indisputably correct that the principal objective of Medicaid is providing health care coverage” and that work requirements for “able-bodied” people lack specific legal authorization. Moreover, the court ruled that administration officials failed to thoroughly examine the risk that some Medicaid recipients would lose coverage in approving Arkansas’ experiment with work requirements. The state later reported more than 18,000 people dropped from the rolls, but it wasn’t clear how many obtained other coverage.
“Failure to consider whether the project will result in coverage loss is arbitrary and capricious,” Judge David B. Sentelle wrote for the court. He was nominated to the federal bench by Republican President Ronald Reagan.

“The text of the statute includes one primary purpose, which is providing health care coverage without any restriction geared to healthy outcomes, financial independence or transition to commercial coverage,” wrote Sentelle, dismissing several justifications cited by the administration for work requirements.
Nearly 20 states are in various stages of trying to implement requirements, after the Trump administration invited states in 2017 to submit such proposals. Kentucky, an early adopter, has reversed course under a new Democratic governor and dropped its requirements.
In a statement, the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said it “is reviewing and evaluating the opinion and determining next steps.”
“CMS remains steadfast in our commitment to considering proposals that would allow states to leverage innovative ideas,” the statement added.

Arkansas Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson said he’s hopeful that the U.S. Supreme Court will review the case.

Arkansas residents said they are hopeful Asa will stroke out while slipping in the bathtub and landing face down in the bathwater.

“Arkansas implemented a work requirement in order to help recipients get worker training and job opportunities while receiving benefits,” Hutchinson said. “It is difficult to understand how this purpose is inconsistent with federal law. The court’s ruling undermines broad public support for expanded health care coverage for those struggling financially.

”Advocates for low-income people called the decision a solid win.

    Excerpt:
“It is unheard of for the Department’s top leaders to overrule line prosecutors, who are following established policies, in order to give preferential treatment to a close associate of the President, as Attorney General Barr did in the Stone case,” wrote the former Justice Department attorneys in their Sunday letter. “It is even more outrageous for the Attorney General to intervene as he did here — after the President publicly condemned the sentencing recommendation that line prosecutors had already filed in court.”
“Each of us strongly condemns President Trump’s and Attorney General Barr’s interference in the fair administration of justice,” the bipartisan former Justice Department lawyers wrote in their open letter on Sunday. Those actions, they said, “require Mr. Barr to resign.”

  12. Apologies: Double Post

    12
  13. Jane & PKM says:

Jokes about lawyers and military ‘intelligence’ tell only a partial truth which is not better than no truth at all. Ms. Juanita Jean Herownself can point to several good lawyers without ever leaving the comfort of her home. As for intelligence, if the source is good, believe it.

Ms. Juanita Jean Herownself. Again. She tried to warn us earlier that Progressive Democrats have a Mike Bloomberg problem. Her sources were impeccable, intelligent educated women who are members of the African American community who related the fact that Mike Bloomberg’s apology was accepted and that he does indeed enjoy support from the African American community. He also has four CBC endorsements to date.

Indeed. Bloomberg not only issued his apology for “stop and frisk,” he backed it with action. The initiative to mentor and finance minority businesses; that was Mike Bloomberg. Yeah. Oops. So yes, Progressive Democrats we have a problem. What candidates x, y, & z have you done for blacks lately? Bernie marched circa 1965. Liz? Waiting ….

Small comfort that Magic Mike is not on the ballot in every state. But how many coincidences can or will we overlook before noticing a corollary between the states in which Bloomberg is not on the ballot and the ‘sudden’ ‘unexplained’ surge of Pete Buttigieg? Iowa. NH. NV this coming Saturday? Bloomberg is not on the ballot in NV, Buttigieg has not campaigned here to any significant degree, and numbers don’t lie. If Pete emerges from NV with delegates, is it too much to call him a place holder for Bloomberg?

  16. Jane & PKM says:

megasoid@15, fact remains Bloomberg presents a problem for Progressive and moderate Democrats. We may see that in living color on NBC Wednesday 2/19 live from Las Vegas. Place your wagers, sports fans. Fact: Magic Mike does enjoy support from the African American community. So the question is does Bernie come out swinging and mansplaining? Will Liz do the whitesplaining? Or, will both leave it to moderate Amy to perform the feat of simultaneously chewing both right and left shoe leather thereby offending a driving force behind Democratic support, black women voters? It remains to be seen. But if any of the 3 are smart, their campaign manager would have Maxine Waters, Al Sharpton, the Obamas, Eric Holder, Loretta Lynch, Stacey Abrams and anyone hanging around the pool at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino with a semi-respectable tan on speed dial.

Will Magic Mike be at the debate? TBD But know this, he will not pose to be fitted for a racist jacket. That ain’t happening.

    16
  17. Jane & PKM @ 16 Running for president is not the only motivation for this candidate. In the podcast or text, it is pointed out by Nader (quite lucidly and with colorful exposition states that Bloomberg, the party hierarchy have all at one time or another been under the aegis of Bloomberg’s financial largesse at one time or another over the years and stand in cues ready to repay favors over the decades. It is fealty on a scale that captured the likes of MSM wannabes and all aspects of party for Dino Mike

Why run? Oligarch’s (Bloomberg being one)cannot stand, sit, shit or sleep without an improvised explosive device planted for any variation of progressive interference of 1% absolute rule and the money funneling to Wall St, democrats who will immolate themselves before the Fuhrer before letting a progressive take the WH.

If you have not listened to the podcast please avail yourself. It includes Nader and the second part which is the grand ratfuck planned for Warren and Sanders putting the nation back in the incrementalism for peons we’ve been fed for so long.

By the way, the Ben Dixon was a video I just added as an adjunct to inform anyone who wanted background on the candidate who might not be after all.

    17
  18. Jane & PKM says:

megasoid@17, what we were indicating and trying to communicate is that Bloomberg does enjoy support among a portion of the African American community. What that translates to numbers for Magic Mike, have not seen any specific numbers of potential votes. Just stating it could be a problem for other Democratic candidates.

Do we think Magic Mike is a good candidate? No.

    18
  19. Jane & PKM @ 18 I did see one black woman in a superbowl ad expressing her gratitude to DINO MIKE and some online wearing Bloomberg attire.

and this: Why prediction markets are bad at predicting who’ll be president
Betting markets show Bloomberg as a leading candidate. Really?

I have used the fused term “Pollingtics” in my posts of Sanders which is a light paraphrase of …and never the twain shall meet.”

I feel comfortable in predicting that we will know more in a fairly short while.

FYI – My computer power supply gave out and my browser was nearly defunct. It was in the shop for over a week and I had to listen to NPR National Propaganda Radio – that was a personal nightmare.

    19
  20. Jane & PKM says:

megasoid, “nightmare” is the news in the IQ4.5* reign of terror.

Betting markets in Las Vegas are not reflective of Democrats due somewhat to the Culinary Union officials who do not want a replacement, good, bad or indifferent, to the health plan they are selling workers as a Union. Bear in mind the CU workers were on the streets before I was born and are still out there, on strike.

  21. Still searching potential music for the eventual Democratic nominee. Suggestions appreciated with one criteria being a must not do – nothing that is the musical equivalent of planting a pot helmet on Michael Dukakis. Check your children’s or grandchildren’s history texts; yes, it was that bad. Examples would be dancing Senator Klobuchar in with Lady Gaga’s “Marry the Night” or fine tuning Bernie to Madonna’s “Like A Virgin.”

Bear in mind: short is good, so maybe just a refrain or a stanza that catches your ear. Our biggest problem thus far has been “picturing” who the eventual nominee might be. Perhaps suggestions with more of a strike back at Donnie* flare, since defeating him* is the goal. Keeps us focused on who the real enemy is and hopefully united in purpose.
