Urgent Alert to All Harris County Voters

November 01, 2020 By: El Jefe Category: 2020 Election, Voter Suppression

HEARING IS TOMORROW MORNING AT 10:30 AM.

If you live in Harris County, Texas, and cast your vote in a drive through location this election, your vote, along with almost 130,000 other votes, is in jeopardy.  Radical Republican operatives have filed yet another lawsuit against drive through voting, this time in an effort to actually invalidate all of those votes.  The Texas Supreme Court dismissed a similar suit a couple of weeks ago, but this one, filed in federal court, is before Andrew Hanen, a GWB appointee, who is known as one of the most ultra-conservative judges in the federal system.  The threat of almost 130,000 Harris County residents losing their vote is real.  If this lawsuit succeeds, it will throw the Texas elections into chaos.

Larry Veselka, a well known Houston attorney, is intervening in the case tomorrow and will represent any Harris County voter who cast their vote in a drive through location.  He has provided a Google Doc intervenor form (link below).  If you voted in a drive through location in Harris County, please fill out this form to make your voice heard.

  1. G Foresight says:

Is “drive through voting” defined as the process where the ballot was brought to the vehicle on a portable computer tablet type machine for the voter to complete?

    1
  2. No, it’s the same machine that’s in walk-in locations. Procedure is the same, just sitting in you car. Procedure was approved by the Secretary of State and the Texas Supreme Court.

    2
  3. What would prevent using the same argument against someone entering a polling location in a motorized wheelchair?

    3
  4. How in the hell can you invalidate 130,000 votes that have already been cast?

And why in the hell can’t the GOP put as much energy into trying to get votes as they do into trying to prevent and block them? That’s what’s normal for a democracy.

  5. This lays out the timeline, and makes Crystal Clear how wrong this last-minute lawsuit was.

Call mom my wife Sallie works for Larry Veselka’s Firm as a paralegal. She’s up at the office right now helping helping them prepare for tomorrow’s hearing!

  7. Jane & PKM says:

Thank you and your staff, Larry Veselka!

Carol Wyatt @7, please if you have a moment pass on the hearty thanks of all of us who believe one man person/one vote to those who are working this weekend to ensure that happens. Eradicating Republicon election rat molesting under Billy Blob Barr’s DOJ is worse than stomping out brush fires.

Anyone appearing before SCROTUS soon? Would love to hear those constitutional originalists explain exactly where in the US Constitutions it is stated that $406billion = 406 billion votes.

  9. Yes, but there’s still the federal lawsuit. Which never should have been filed, I know.

  10. The word “conservative” sure seems to have changed in recent decades. There was a time when conservatives were interested in maintaining democracy.

At least I think there was. Never having claimed that title for myself, I guess I can’t be absolutely certain sure. But I’m guessing Ike and his ilk thought democracy was a pretty good system.

The change seems to have come about when people started drifting away from their party — at about the time they adopted the Southern Strategy and the guy who kicked it off resigned to avoid getting impeached. But, rather than move away from the KKK and toward the majority of the country, they decided to do away with democracy instead.

To quote their illustrious leader, “SAD!!!”

  11. to Vic @ 10:
But what’s the use of having ultra “conservative” judges picked by W if you can’t use them to throw elections in times of need?

    12
  12. Well, now! I guess they consider this a No Harm No Foul o their part over their own history of scaring the hell out of voters and making them stay home or even beating and killing anyone who just might in their eyes cast a “wrong” vote. they really haen evolved, have they.

  13. Steve from Beaverton says:

Being relieved that tomorrow is Election Day will be short lived because the repugnantican lawsuits over ballot counting will flood the courts in virtually every state.
And then to hear Trumpf declaring victory at his WH party will be sick.
    Needs to be a landslide.
