The Party of Grope as Opposed to the Party of Hope!

This post was written by our friend Deb T.

A few days ago, Republicans in Ohio passed a change to state law under the guise of protecting girls sports. Now whenever you hear the phrase, “protecting girls sports,” it should give you pause. This is no exception.

Essentially this law allows anyone to dispute the sex of an athlete on a school’s team. There are absolutely no constraints or safeguards put in place to ensure that this is not used maliciously.
.
This is being done under the guise of saving women’s sports from the trans athlete bogeyman! What it’s going to do is irreparably harm & traumatize young girls.
.
I’d like to be funny about this, because I think humor makes people pay attention, but the specifics of this law are horrible.
.
Anyone can be targeted. What does a girl have to do to prove she’s a girl you might ask? A physician must examine the girls internal and external reproductive anatomy. Now look we’re talking about kids as young as 5th and 6th grade, 10  to11 years old. The law requires the doctor to examine the size of the girls clitoris. If it’s too big you don’t get to play because you’re not female enough. Then the doctor is going to give you a pelvic exam to feel your uterus and ovaries. Now remember we’re talking about 10 to 11-year-old girls here. There is absolutely no medical reason to do a pelvic exam on a 10 to 11-year-old girl, This is sexual assault.
.
But we’re not done yet. Now they’re going to draw blood to measure testosterone levels, (yeah these very from person to person but it doesn’t matter to the Ohio Republican Assault Brigade), then they’ll check your chromosomes, are you XX or XY. How to get to specific here but there are in fact women who are XY but that doesn’t matter.
.
Did I mention that the bill offers protection for retaliation for people who report the athlete that they think isn’t really a female. But there’s no protection for athletes who have been falsely accused. But wait, there’s more!
.
Any athlete who thinks that their chances at winning were hurt because someone on the other team wasn’t “female enough” can sue the school district!
.
So if you’re a parent of a young girl in Ohio, you are basically going to have to be willing to have your daughter sexually assaulted and you’re going to have to cough up the bucks to pay for the privilege of having this done to her and having her blood tested. Because if you don’t the school district is not going to be able to afford to let your child play, because they can’t afford the lawsuit.

Thanks for posting Deb T’s article. It is searing and horrifying.
Republicans are a gathering of predators.

I usually stay out of these topics, but reading this and the link below from the Ohio Capitol [cis] Journal, I’m just dumbfounded by how twisted, sneaky, perverted, and a dozen other negative traits these oleaginous GOPvert sonsabitches are.

They sleazed the bill by obscurely attaching it within another one at the last minute, and are furiously lying about it.
One major problem with it are the privacy concerns, beyond the perverted physical exams, etc.
Taking DNA tests, etc., that the results will go to ‘who the fuck knows’ is beyond the pale. After all, the gopverted ‘accusers’ will undoubtedly demand to see/copy every detail of every test [private medical data, HIPPA-grade stuff]; and blast it all over the gopvertverse.

But y’all know that they’re just establishing a ‘pattern’ for other states to emulate, and the RW SCROTUS to rubberstamp.

[is it just me or has this publication used the wrong choice of “Capital” [referring to finance], rather than the word “Capitol” referring to a seat of governmental/political power in their name? What the hell, they’re Ohioans…]

These GQPers are beyond maniacal, they need to be expunged from the nation’s political landscape. Only one peaceful way to do that, a massive GOTV effort. The alternative can only be Civil War II.

[my weatherstation hit 100F at ~1:30PM today, earlier than the previous few week’s daily readings which come ~3-4PM, it just gets effing hotter every week…and we just finished May]

  3. Steve from Beaverton says:

R’s are making people turn against people and using the Texas method of enforcing their repugnant laws- vigilantism. It’s bound to spread from Ohio.
Here in Oregon, a lot of R politicians have made this gender identity war over school sports part of their campaigns including all levels of elected positions (school boards, city councils, etc). Example, there are now 3 candidates for Governor, a Democrat, a repugnantican and a former Democrat running as an independent (a Joe Manchin like dem she was). Predictably, this “independent” is splitting the democratic voters in the poles and the repugnantican candidate is leading and she’s made this gender identity war a big part of her teevee ads (along with 2nd amendment gun issues). She skipped the repugnantican debate before the primary but still won (suspect she was avoiding tough questions like abortion rights). She may very well be the first R governor in Oregon in decades but for upcoming elections for state legislators, luckily, democrats will still control. For now.

  4. At that age it is a silly idea. As the difference is vary minor. My G’daughter could out run and out fight my G’son. So if some boy thinking he is a girl and plays girl sports he is more likely to get his butt kicked.

  5. Sandridge says:

L.Long @4, The GOPverts are already spinning the hell out of it: ‘OMFG! Seven foot tall trans athletes whompin’ on poor lil Suzy!

From the OCJ article linked above :

“But John Stover with Ohio Value Voters said if he had a daughter, he would want her to have a fair shot.

***“To have a transgender seven foot one inch male that was competing against her and having the physical strength that he is going to have competing against a daughter or in any of these physical sports***, that would certainly be inappropriate,” Stover said.

That doesn’t happen, because OSHAA already has rules in place regarding transgender athletes, Bruno added.”

    .
Plus, the school athletic organizations are going to put the squeeze on Ohio if this bill makes it into law, hundreds of millions of lost dinero.

    5
  6. It’s just the modern version of “Burn her! She’s a witch!”

These intentionally ignorant buffoons cannot understand science.

    6
  7. Katherine says:

Does this apply to boys’ sports? If I think someone on a boys’ sports team is really a girl, are they subject to the same abuse? And if I think that someone in elected office is really a reptile, I want them examined!

    7
  8. Brian Crowder says:

Teachers, administrators and students, at least those of good conscience, should immediately boycott everything related to the school. Classes, events, sports… all of it.

  9. I’ve been studying collective nouns and can’t decide.

    A sleaze of Republicans?
    A creep?

    9
  10. Another Pecker Checker bill. It’s time to call GOP what they are, a bunch of perverts who envied Jeffrey Epstein and want to put their hands where they don’t belong.

  11. Joe Humble says:

Larry Nassar is already petitioning for work-release in the state of Ohio. He’s got loads of relevant experience.

  12. slipstream says:

linda, the term you are looking for is:

    a diarrhea of Republicans.

    12
  13. I wonder if any people supporting this bill believe wearing a mask to prevent the spread of COVID is an invasion of their personal privacy?

    13
  14. Just an excuse to grope little girls. And the R’s call the D’s pedophiles. All projection, all the time.

    14
  15. Once AGAIN, they have shown how ignorant they are. They are assuming everyone is either XX or XY. That is NOT the case. There are lots of variations in the genetic makeup involving the “sex chromosomes. Some examples
    XXX
    XXY
    XYY
But then we know those followers of the orange messiah don’t have two brain cells.

  17. Malarkey says:

@Katherine #7 – Came to ask the same thing!

These folks are always getting their undies in a bunch about transwomen, but seem to forget – or ignore – transmen. I can just about read their minds: “Girls can’t compete in boys sports, so let them go ahead and try!”

    Jerks.

  19. The Surly Professor says:

The Ohio Republicans have been busy lately. Now they’ve added Canada to a “religous freedom watch list”:

    https://www.wksu.org/government-politics/2022-06-02/ohio-house-republicans-vote-to-put-canada-on-a-federal-watch-list

Rick@13: your conjecture is bang on; it was Canada’s response to cut down on Covid-19 transmission that prompted the shunning.

They really are incapable of actual governance, it’s just one publicity stunt after another.

    19
  20. Since Alito has passed judgment, the NSGOP has decided that abortion won’t work any longer as a way of getting its voters riled up. So, they figure going after LGBTQ people will work for them.

Unfortunately, they’re probably right. Haters gotta hate.

    20
  21. This is going to reveal my age, but, hey, anyubody remember Jim Thorpe?

There were those who haated a non-white giy (Native American) become the shining star of athletics so they took away his best chance of becoming just that.

This opened up a lot of eyes over the years. Maybe he couldn’t get back wht was stolen fro him, but sports in gneral started to open up, crack by crack, until the door was wide open.

And the salacious part of what Ohio R’s are trying to do? Maybe some day one of them will publicly admit that he thinks he would enjoy it.

    21
  22. Malarkey says:

@maggie #21 – I grew up in Pottsville, PA, not far from Mauch Chunk, PA. Mauch Chunk was renamed to Jim Thorpe before I was born, but the locals always called it Mauch Chunk. Still do.

  23. Jill Ann says:

I can’t express how appalling this is. And I would assume not one parent would put his/her child through that abuse, so girls’ sports will be decimated. WTF has happened to Ohio? I’m kind of used to the crazy here in TX, but I grew up in Michigan & always felt that our neighbor, Ohio, was similarly fairly sensible. Things have changed an awful lot since then, or I was just naive. Of course, I used to think our other neighbor Wisconsin was sensible too.

I just wish these yahoos would quit practicing medicine without a license.

  25. Steve from Beaverton says:

Katherine, cancer spreads fast and this is a cancer in our country. These tumors are growing in almost every state.

    25
  26. Nick Carraway says:

As a teacher and former girls volleyball coach this frightens me on so many levels. Two things hit me in addition to the obvious. First, what in all holy hell has happened to sports in general? My daughter is quitting volleyball. It’s just too competitive and that attitude permeates down to the kids. She’s been bullied because some perceive her not to be good enough. She’s not a natural looking athlete (physically and instinctual athletic movements). From the parent perspective this is heartbreaking because we’ve made winning and getting seen by college scouts as paramount to simply competing and having fun.

Secondly, we aren’t solving real problems. This is all a deflection to avoid that. That’s really at the heart of this thing. They have no ideas and aren’t interested in participate in contributing anything worthwhile. If my daughter loses a game to a kid that might be more physically gifted and “different” that doesn’t matter. It doesn’t solve the supply chain issues, environment, the wealth gap, or even the more serious issues in education. Her psyche is not negatively impacted by losing a game. It is negatively impacted when her status as LGTBQ is somehow belittled or marginalized.

Fortunately for her, she’s a very talented singer and a good student. Some kids don’t have that. Sports is a way they can stay connected and feel good about themselves. As a teacher, you want kids to have something they enjoy doing outside of pure academics. It keeps then connected socially and ultimately motivates them to keep doing well in school. Even if we assumed the absolute best of these assclowns, we’d still have to conclude that they just don’t get this.
