Because It Worked So Damn Well Last Time
Donald Trump, who claimed to have a beautiful distribution system for the vaccine, has now decided to leave it up to the states, because it’ll be so damn much fun watching the states fight over it.
The Trump administration is shunting to the states hard decisions about which Americans will get the limited early supplies of coronavirus vaccines — setting up a confusing patchwork of distribution plans that could create unequal access to the life-saving shots.
Federal and state officials agree that the nation’s 21 million health care workers should be first in line. But there is no consensus about how to balance the needs of other high-risk groups, including the 53 million adults aged 65 or older, 87 million essential workers and more than100 million people with medical conditions that increase their vulnerability to the virus.
Or, you know, major campaign donors. The state house members and their families. I cannot even imagine the goat rodeo this is going to be in Texas.
I don’t understand why you wouldn’t appoint an Army general to head this up — not Flynn, but an actual ground forces general. Those guys know how to get things done in any mass operation. This is what they do.
January 20th can’t get here fast enough.
Kicking Off Monday Morning
I know you’re still belching turkey so let us entertain you with some belly laughs.
The beginnings of the Trump Presidential Library has been rough out on something nicer than a cocktail napkin and you can see it right here.
And remember that it’s Christmas time and you’re gonna want to get me a present. They have a shop.
You’re gonna love this place. Pour a cup of coffee and find comfy chair.
Thanks to Dennis for the heads up.
What A Pardon Will Buy You
Mike Flynn interviewed with The Washington Times (the ink version of OAN) last weekend and was wearing his cheerleader megaphone.
“There is no doubt in my mind that he won this election. Hands down. In a landslide,” Flynn said about Mr. Trump during a phone interview that was uploaded to the internet afterward.
“I believe that at the end of the day we’re going to find out that he won by a massive landslide and he’ll be inaugurated come this January,” Flynn stated later during the interview.
Landslide? Inaugurated? I wonder why his lawyer didn’t plead insanity.
So, that’s what a pardon costs – your dignity, your honor, and your common damn sense.
The “Stab in the Back” Myth and World War I
A great opinion piece in the NY Times this week by Bret Stephens drew a direct parallel line between today’s Team Trump and the German army’s defeat in 1918. The commonality is the term Dolchstosslegende, which literally means “stab in the back myth”, and was used during the remilitarization in Weimar period after WWI. The myth goes like this – when the German army was being routed all over northern Europe towards the end of the war in 1918, it was actually winning, and corrupt politicians stabbed the military in the back by signing an armistice with the Allies to end the war. That lie was used thousands of times by Hitler and his henchmen as they seized power from the “schemers” (politicians and Jews), proclaiming they were restoring Germany’s honor and greatness. Sound familiar?
Dolchestosslegende is precisely what Trump, Rudy, and his merry band of deplorables are using against Americans to steal the election from a duly elected President, Joe Biden. And the amazing feature of this myth is that it really doesn’t matter if the lies are blatantly false; it proves that if your repeat an outrageous lie enough times, people will believe it. Trumpland is so inured to receiving lies that they are simply accepted, even though they are pure farce.
And that is the point.
