One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

Oh, Governor Greg Abbott … oh

Abbott has now exempted face masks in voting locations. Seriously.

Gov. Greg Abbott’s mask order exempts “any person who is voting, assisting a voter, serving as a poll watcher, or actively administering an election,” but he adds that “wearing a face covering is strongly encouraged.”

Yeah, we tried that strongly encouraged stuff.  The Governor’s people aren’t buying that because the Lt. Governor is telling them … freedom!  Plus, there is all this stuff on Facebook claiming that masks will give you brain damage and ruin your lungs, and Trump doesn’t wear one.

But, if the crazies don’t vote, the other crazies don’t win the primary.  So tell me this isn’t political.  This is pure politics with human life.

Damn, Greg, I had a nice thought about you.  Whish – it went away.

Be social and share!

What does A-Butt plan to pass out on election day with the COVID-19? Adorable little pins that say, “thank you for voting Republicon, now you can die.”

It could be good for Texas, since the survivors will be the Democrats who are smart and know how to fill out a mail-in ballot. Sorry that sounds severe. But damn, what can we do for/about people who are too stubborn to follow simple measures to keep themselves and those around them safe?

Encourages the crazies, discourages Democrats. A two-fer

While waiting, the polling place should air Randy Rainbow’s video on wearing a mask! Or maybe Abbott might watch it and change his mind – again!

  4. “… masks will give you brain damage and ruin your lungs, and Trump doesn’t wear one.”

If Trump doesn’t wear a mask wouldn’t it prove the exact opposite, that not wearing a mask gives you brain damage? And the lack of a mask clearly will ruin your lungs and pretty much everything else, based on West Point Ramp-Walk 2020?

  5. Ms. Ada: “Change his mind?” Now you are arguing facts not in evidence that he has a mind.

If that isn’t the most ridiculous dung pile of doublespeak,
much like the cowardly Surgeon General when asked if going to Trump rallies was safe to attend. Boy did he wiggle and squirm his way around until the reporter had enough and demanded, “
Yes or no!” Then continued to avoid answering again.
Does Texas have mail in ballots? Hope so.

Between Trump, Abbott, and Patrick, if you added the three IQ numbers, you would be one point short of my shoe size. The Daily Beast summed up Patrick quite nicely here:

  8. He proves once again why I call him Gov. A-Butt.

  9. Is it true that exposure to Covid/not wearing a mask can cause erectile dysfunction? If that got out, maybe more men would wear a mask.

  10. Jane & PKM says:

linda @9 the word that the ***king moron* and his* maladministration are failing to deliver is that “recovery” from COVID-19 is not what medical professionals would call a full recovery. For the young hale and otherwise virile, the risk is organ damage to an extent to be problematic for the rest of their lives where erectile dysfunction would be the ‘least’ of their problems. Maybe a PSA to explain: COVID-19 doesn’t respect YOU, and it doesn’t give a soap about Viagra.

And, so much is unknown. But it’s probable that COVID-19 would also have significant ramifications to women of child bearing age. So two COVID-19 ‘recovered’ parents? Not a choice an informed person would make.

    Perfectly put.
    Jane & PKM: @10:
Thanks for that. The long term damage done to otherwise healthy young people is MASSIVELY underreported, and should be blasted over the sound system once an hour at every bar. Everywhere.

It will be interesting to see how attitudes change by November.

Particularly since we could see 100,000 cases *a day* soon…

And then there’s the neurological damage. Looks as if part of the breathing problems may be because it may attack the brain stem. Plus the blood clot/stroke thing. I shall continue to stay home.

  14. I early voted on Thursday (before the mandate went into effect). Noticed on the Democratic side, everyone was masked, enforced social distancing, and wiping down of surfaces, and finger masks were given out. On the Republican side there were social distancing markers, but out of the 4 people I saw one (a voter) wasn’t wearing a mask (wasn’t close enough to observe wiping down protocols, but there were plexiglass shields for the poll workers at the table). If our poll workers survive, this could benefit us. And yes, I’m at that point now.

  15. If only there was an award for incompetence by a government official we could bestow upon Abbott. Maybe call it the “Heckuva job Brownie” award. However, he would have some stiff competition on the national level.

  16. Don A in Pennsyltucky says:

I worked all day in a polling place for the Pennsyltucky primary. They provided masks for the workers and some extras to offer to people who needed one. No one did. We had new pens and each voter got their own to keep, we didn’t accept them back. A few went into the trash.

Oh and roughly 3/4 of the registered voters in both parties voted by mail. Pennsyltucky is anal-retentive AND obsessive-compulsive about ballot security. People (like me) who applied for an absentee ballot were tracked. I received an email when my application was received, another when they mailed the ballot to me and another when they acknowledged getting it back. At the polling place, the registration book was marked with the people who had returned their ballot (already voted), people who had been mailed a ballot (can get a provisional ballot which will be cross-checked and if the mailed one was returned, the provisional never gets opened). Virtually impossible to commit voter fraud.

#16 … thanks for working the primary election — a necessary and often overlooked part of the process.

I live in Colorado, and elections here have been “mail ballots” since 2014. As of midnight or so on primary election day 6/30, Colorado processed 10,629 in person voters, 1,480,516 mail ballots. I was one of the “in person” this time (long story) — 5 volunteers at my voting center, and I was one of three votes in the room.

Republican and Democratic and other parties all have officials praising the process and supporting its honesty. Optimistically, others will have a chance to move toward these options, allowing more time for voting, fewer lines, and less time in lines.
