Judge Allows Emoluments Suit to Continue. And Nobody Noticed.

March 29, 2018 By: El Jefe Category: 2016 Election, Trump

Remember when the State of Maryland and Washington DC filed suit against Trump for violating the Emoluments clause of the Constitution for failing to separate himself from his hotel properties?  I do, but the media gave it passing coverage, and Trump’s henchmen dismissed the suit as frivolous.  And, a Trump devotee within the government inexplicably said that Trump was violating no laws with his continued ownership in the hotel.  Well, on Tuesday, it go more real.  The Justice Department, protecting Trump, filed a motion in federal court to get the case tossed.  U.S. District Judge Peter Messitte in Greenbelt, Maryland refused to toss the case, but did limit it to Trump’s new hotel in DC, where it is well documented that everyone, foreign and domestic, wanting to curry favor with Cheeto Jesus, is flocking to the hotel.

Now that the case can go forward, there will be discovery that will delve into how foreign governments are funneling money into Trump’s pocket through his hotel, and potentially catastrophic for Trump and his crowd.  The news coverage?  Light at best, non-existent generally.  With the Stormy Daniels case now gaining traction with its salacious details, the Constitutional case moves forward, and almost nobody noticed.

Note:  Even as I write this, MoJo just started discussing it on MSNBC.  LOL.

  3. The issue with Spanky Drumpf is that soooo much of what he has done recently and over the course of his life is illegal that there will be several simultaneous investigations for years of this on-going criminal conspiracy of a mal-administration. A hush payment here from the 2016 campaign coffers, a dirty money laundry in NYC for Kushner, Uday, and Qusay’s “real estate” empire, etc. Seems to me Spanky Drumpf wants leadership of the Five Families more than anything else. (And he’s not Sicilian by any definition of the term.)

Just how many “high crimes and misdemeanors” will it take to get the snacilbupeR attention?

Hey, I talked about the emoluments violations being a slam dunk for impeachment during the CD7 Meyerland / Bellaire Forum on Jan. 15, 2018. Check the tape. Unfortunately, my prescient response did not carry the day on March 6.

  5. Remember . . . it wasn’t a sharp shooter that brought down a famous mobster years and years and years ago but an IRA accountant with a sharp pencil! Sometimes, thats how it works and it is so ironic!

  6. I believe it was on NPR. And you just linked to the Washington Post’s article, where I saw it this morning.

*I* noticed. And several news sources noticed: New York Times, Washington Post, Rachel, Lawrence, Chris Hayes…

  8. Yee-ha! I could almost throw a rock and hit that courthouse on the other side of town, but I’d rather throw flowers at Judge Messitte. That crook NEEDS to have his bloated, lying, corrupt ass hauled into court.

Your point about Al Capone is correct, but it was the IRS, not the IRA that brought him down. The Irish probably have sharp pencils too.
