Indeed, Let’s Do See Some Progress, Mr. Irony
They build them dumb in Florida.
Tea Party Congressman Curt Clawson sat in an official United States congressional hearing and addressed United States officials as non-citizens from India and began to pompously chastise them.
Well hell, they looked like they were from India. I mean, they weren’t white.
But, the best line is the last line. A patronizing wink, a smile, and a “Let’s see some progress,” was an amazing verbal sacrifice to the Irony Goddess.

I thought Nisha Biswal was amazing in her restraint. Actually, asking “Are you drunk?” would have been a more appropriate response.
Republicans.. the least intelligent animals on the planet.
1Curt Clawson sez: “I made a mistake in speaking before being fully briefed and I apologize. I’m a quick study, but in this case I shot an air ball.” Hey Curt, you’re a TEApublican from Florida. That’s the opposite of a quick study.
2Curt, you exposed your own bigotry. Own it. “Ain’t white, must be a foreigner” in Teabag Floriduh parlance.
Air ball? No, Curt, air biscuit which is semi-polite for canine flatulence.
3This idiot replaced to coke head dude. I know it’s Ft. Meyers and Cape Coral but still this fool will retain this seat. My district is just north of there and Rooney R idiot is my “representative”. I’ll vote Democrat but will unfortunately lose. Mark Foley R pedophile used to represent me, oh well …..Sigh…
4Florida.
There used to be a time when I wanted to retire there. Now, if I get too tan they’ll either shoot me or deport me.
Thanks for ruining my plans, you nut jobs.
5At least he knew that they looked Indian and didn’t think they were from Zimbabwe or Bolivia…. So he can sort of distinguish among brown people.
6Reminds me of when I was a lab TA and after a litte sophomore CT started a lecture on working women soaking up all the men’s jobs (when men could clearly do any job better, see?) I said, “so any man could come in here and teach you more about this computer, and better than I can, right?”
“oh no, no, no, that’s not what I said at all!”
Well, yeah it was and I gently but firmly explained to him that that was EXACTLY what he had said! So bright boy changed gears with a clash and started prosing on about all the foreigners and other sub humans we were letting in to take all the good jobs from the fine upstanding WASP men. So I said, “you know, Chris, I am married to one of those foreigners of yours. You really need to be more careful what you say!” – he stared at me with his mouth open and said, “You aren’t married to no foreigner! I’ve SEEN your kids! They’re WHITE!!”
“well Chris, my husband emigrated here to the US from Crewe, Cheshire, England when he was six weeks old. Last time I checked, England was still a foreign country!”
The sad thing is, Chris’s opinions and statements were MILD compared to what the Chrises of today think and would say! I wonder if that conversation stuck w him? Somehow, I rather doubt it…the hate wing media and the churches are far too loud!
7If you’re black, git back.
8If you’re brown, leave town.
If you’re white, that’s right.
Aggieland, I get the same kind of response when I tell certain people that my father was an immigrant. They cannot figure out why 1.) I am not perpetually suntanned and 2.) why I don’t have slanted eyes. All I can say is, when Noah built the ark, did he really check out all the animals he let in to see if they weren’t some sort of other pre-human species with a very, very, very small brain? Yuck!
9@Maggie: they have small wizened defective hearts too :/
10Clawson will never admit it, but he’s a slacker. Every member of the committee received a list before the meeting of who would be testifying and their job title, but Clawson didn’t take five minutes to look at the list. There’s really no excuse for this. The way he treated his fellow citizens in this committee meeting gives me a glimpse into his provincial mindset–when he sees/meets someone who looks different from himself, he automatically assumes the person is a foreigner, a taker, and/or is not as “good” as he is because he’s a white male. Sad, very sad that this is still happening in 21st Century America. The saddest thing of all to me is that most Floridians in his district thought he was the best they could do. SMDH.
11And, the video is gone. Somebody must have a copy, let’s get it back on the InnerToobs.
12One would think that a fellow Repug would have stopped Clawson from making a complete fool of hisownself. The fact that no one did indicates they did not know he was making a fool of himself because they were either not listening or they are fools themselves. Myownself, I think they are all fools.
13june, you are too kind. The current GOP is comprised of raging idiots and sadists. Every post Reagan GOP plan is an abject failure. Before my time, but I’ve studied some economics. With it’s name, it doesn’t require a full semester to predict that failure. Say what? Funnel everything to the top and hope for a few sprinkles? Before that policy ever was in place, any sane president and Congress would have stopped it. That the Repukes continue on with that massive failure in the face of decades of failure is astounding.
Einstein nailed them: “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
Meh? Instead of the current polls regarding the approval rating of Congress, we should be rating them on a scale between stOOpids like Curt and sadists like Paul Ryan. “Middle ground” in the current GOP consists of those too old to work toward solutions like McShame, Mitch and Miss Vapors.
14I sometimes enjoy telling people my grandpa was an illegal alien. I’m a middle aged white woman, about as white as you can be actually. So they look confused, and sometimes I also tell them Grandpa hopped off the boat from Holland without benefit of papers. Sometimes I just let them figure it out themselves. I figure I am not in a place to judge other illegals, though.
15Ted, there are still some YouTube versions posted. Here’s one:

16Clawson is a one-time Purdue basketball star who constantly bores listeners with basketball aphorisms. Here’s what his hometown newspaper thinks.

Purdue is a great academic and research university. My son and daughter-in-law have four Purdue degrees altogether. But for every Neil Armstrong, Purdue seems to spin off another lame brain. Here’s another one – a Republican no less.

17Thanks, UmptyDump. I’ve been traveling and out of touch this last week. Everywhere I looked the video had been deleted, so I appreciate your link. The guy was a condescending, smug idiot.
