In The Running …

I think if we were to make a list of the worst political teevee commercials, this would certainly make the list.

John Kennedy is running for Senate in Louisiana.  His commercial is getting lots of attention but not the good kind.

At about 18 seconds of the ad, photos of Kennedy and his wife — from their wedding and with their son — are shown on-screen, and Kennedy says, “I believe that love is the answer…”

As the camera goes back to Kennedy, he concludes: “…but you ought to own a handgun just in case.”

  1. Sigh. Nate Silver has this fool ahead by a lot.

    What’s wrong with Louisiana????

  2. 1smartcanerican says:

What the heck? John Kennedy can believe whatever he wants but like so many of his fellow conservatives, his personal beliefs should not trump the beliefs of other Americans. And yes, his link between love and guns is more than a bit odd!

  3. That Other Jean says:

Nobody named John Kennedy should be advocating gun ownership. That’s just…wrong.

    3
  4. His gun-nut base will think this ad is clever. No one else will.

    4
  5. The handgun will be too late if his wife cooks for him.

    5
  6. Hilarious when they advocate small government – and then want to regulate everyone’s sex life, religion, family planning, and where they go to the bathroom.

What’s wrong with Louisiana is there are too many people that won’t get off their butts and vote. Same goes for most of the nation.

    Lorena Bobbit might disagree.

  8. Don A in Pennsyltucky says:

That sounds more like an ad for a gun shop. Or was it an NRA commercial?

    8
  9. Love is the answer and that includes when it’s between same-sex adults.

Wouldn’t you agree, John, since you brought up the issue?

    9
  10. LynnN: Love is the answer but you ought to have a handgun just in case somebody tries to tell you that your same-sex marriage is illegal…?

Sounds like a poorly veiled threat to his wife about infidelity on her part.

  12. JAKvirginia says:

LynnN: Two adults choose to be married. Their reasons are none of anyone’s business. Love, lust, companionship… whatever. Nobody’s business.

  13. JAKvirginia says:

Uh oh. LynnN, my first name is John and I thought you were talking to me. Ooops. You meant the Ken guy. Sorry.

  14. Wow! The next stop on the interpersonal relationship continuum past “love” is “shoot ’em”? As in “If you love something/Set it free/If it loves you/It will come back to you/ If it doesn’t–hunt it down and kill it.”

    14
  15. Well, now! Saw the vid. This guy is halfway to a state of dry up and blow away. This is the best his party could do? No wonder the ad sucks swamp water! Total wack jobs!

  16. Sam in San Antonio says:

I wonder if he will take Vitter’s place in the Red Light district.

    16
  17. That was just stoopid.
