Housekeeping

February 02, 2017 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I’ve had a report that some comments aren’t being posted.  Is this happening to anyone else?

Remember – we had this problem before but we thought we got it fixed.  Apparently not.  Let me know if it’s happening to you.

Warning: if you cussed too much, I probably did delete your comment.

I promise, I wouldn’t upset your mom! I remember getting my mouth washed out with soap when I was about five y.o., and my keyboard wouldn’t survive it!

  2. George in Lee County says:

Given the examples of cussing provided by the Proprietor, it is hard to imagine any of your commentators cussing too much.

George, in Texas the words damn, hell, and sumbitch are not considered cussing. There are those who like to argue that bullcrap is also not a cuss word, but an agribusiness term. Come to think of it, we sing happy songs about bullcrap in Texas and if you don’t believe me, listen to the Cotten Eyed Joe. Personally, I prefer the multicultural caca del toro.

Juanita Jean Herownself, it isn’t cussing, those are punctuation marks where the cattle roam. We could call it recycled hay, but that might cause some confusion between what Donnie wears on his head and what spews out of his twitter account.

  6. Some ACLU stuff seems appropriate here.

  7. Maybe that you need to reenter your name and e-mail every time when you leave a reply has caused that to happen. I am still surprised when it pops up after I forget to do it. It’s easy to overlook if you’re not careful. (And I almost did it again when I was about to hit “submit comment”.)

The alternative of fact is fiction. When one knowingly spouts alternative facts or fictions as truth, It’s called lying.
The quantity of alternative facts and masculine bovine fecal matter spewed out by this administration leaves me searching for words.

  9. I say most of my profanity aloud when I hit “Submit” before I remember to enter my name and email. Grrr.

I have an email buddy who’s happy to hear all my F bombs and other verboten language. Thank you Mikey.

“Under certain circumstances, urgent circumstances, desperate circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer.” — Mark Twain

I submit that these are desperate circumstances and many of us are very angry. But I try to bleep it for Mama’s sake.

  12. Debbo–I highly recommend https://stronglang.wordpress.com/; it’s by mostly linguists, so you can be much more sophisticated in your use of F-bombs and others.

  13. Ms.Juanita Jean and I have the same take on damn, hell, sumbitch and bull hockey not being cusswords.

Having raised a couple of girls who have advanced degrees in English kinda things, IMO cuss words are just words. There use has nothing to do with anything. Just words.

  14. JAKvirginia says:

It is the one strange trait of the English language; the inability to insult without using vulgarities. In other tongues there are countless insults and putdowns which never rise to the level of “cussing” but are devastatingly sharp. We need to work on that.

    14
  15. What about truly vile words completely outside the pale of polite conversation, like “Trump” or “Bannon”… are they considered “cussing”?

  16. I do believe the business of having to enter name & email has more to do with your browser and it’s settings than the site. Site always requires it but your browser is what fills it in semi-automatically, or not as the case may be
