Here’s What Happens When They Start Losing

Okay, so let’s say you’re black and you live in an older section of Dallas, Texas, and it’s Sunday morning and you are in church.  And when you leave church ….

An Oak Cliff church that proudly flies a banner reading Black Lives Matter had nearly 1,000 unwanted visitors gather on their campus Sunday.

Pro-police riders jammed up the church’s parking lot and surrounding streets — sparking a counter-protest Sunday night.

With flags flying — including at least one Confederate flag — the mostly white visitors called themselves the “Back the Blues Cruise,” said they were on a mission to support police.

This was the largest attempt by the rightwing to confront Black church goers in their own parking lot.  They have been trying it at smaller black churches in east and north Texas.

And then add …

The Blue Lives Matter rally had police escorts and was supported by police, which is why later that night protesters marched on the Dallas Police Department. Although Dallas PD denies escorting the rally, they said they were just there to direct traffic.

What?  I thought that was what a police escort was — directing traffic.

Look, when the members of First Baptist Church in Dallas come to support and protect their brothers and sisters at Friendship West Baptist Church, I’ll stand down, but until then, let me say that white Baptist churches are making Little Baby Jesus cry.

Thanks to Vicki for the heads up.

dinosaurs lived alongside humans being the operative phrase here.

They only bring the crosses when they’re doing this after dark I guess.

  4. If the motorcyclists support the police, wouldn’t their display be more effective in front of a police station? So while they’re vroom vrooming around, the cops could come out and say thank you? And momo boys, don’t forget to swing by the Krispy Kreme on your way and pick up the gift that shows your gratitude, and symbolizes the hole in your heads.

Circling a church parking lot doesn’t do any of those things.

Treason flag flying, eh? At least they make it easy for me to call them racists.

  6. Sadly, it’s their Constitutional right to be racist asshats if they so desire. But if the police were directing traffic, they would they certainly have stopped the cruisers occasionally so the the church attendees could leave the parking lot, no?

It’s one of those weird situations where both groups think the imaginary sky wizard is on their side.

I grew up in a Southern Baptist church and stayed with them whenever I moved until the Pressler bunch started the move to Republican orthodoxy.

Wonder how many weapons were on those bikers for racism in their show of cowardice.
Make Texas Blue, and I don’t mean police blue.

My grandpa was a Southern Baptist minister, and in fact was a preacher at Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Oak Cliff. My mama always said he was the best read man she ever knew, and he was a remarkable man – even at 93 and legally blind, he still made his way downtown to the courthouse every day to visit prisoners and marry people who wanted a religious ceremony, not a JP.
He got in a lot of trouble over the years for his belief in evolution and his support of integration. He would have been appalled by this display of bigotry and pure meanness. I wonder whether his old church will have any response to this. Not holding my breath.

  10. Grandma Ada says:

What a disgusting and unnecessary act. Play dress up, and go harass people in a church. Will they try to burn it down next time or throw a bomb?

  11. Since when did scooter trash and police become best buddies? I have a lot of family and friends who are retired cops, deputies and highway patrol here in California and they are good people. I know they protected bad cops because that’s their culture but I have to say, when I see cops all over the country choosing who they will and will not protect and server, I’m both ashamed of them and pissed off. It’s past time for them all to clean house and change that culture.

Seems likely to have church-going individuals realize who is in the “pro-police” coalition … and cause further decay of Trump support among the suburban, SUV driving, church-attending groups who once thought Trump would help them and people like them.

Even if the First Baptist Church members do not rally and hold a public demonstration of their support for their brethren, the tactic of disrupting a Sunday service will make a clear statement — and those Whites will need to choose which side they are on. Will they support people in a church or those interrupting a Sunday service?
