Hell Freezes Over; Twitter Bans Trump PERMANENTLY

January 08, 2021 By: El Jefe Category: Trump

Breaking – Twitter has just announced that it has banned Trump permanently due to his continued abuse of their terms of service.  Their statement: “After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” Twitter’s official “Safety” account tweeted.  That’s only about 5 years late.

  1. Better late than never – – maybe!

  2. Cato the Censor says:

As far as Trump is concerned, this is the equivalent of cutting someone’s tongue out.

    2
  3. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram without Trump.
His twitchy fingers without an outlet must be like one of the circles of hell.

I suspect for him, it’s only going to get worse.

  4. Steve from Beaverton says:

Hope Twitter and Facebook have upped their security precautions because Trumpf’s proud boys will be on their doorsteps. I understand they’re already on fire over this.

    4
  5. I am wondering if this is actually in our best interest.

Trump is obsessed with Twitter and if he is forced to do something else just imagine what he might do with his last week in power.

    5
  6. Neal Katyal just commented that Trump has “lost his Precious.” I can’t stop laughing!!

  7. Hello Twitter? Cow already out of barn.

    7
  8. So now his massively gianormous unfiltered megaphone has been taken away. The direct line to everyone. The most powerful tool any autocrat has ever used to deliver their malignant narrative. It’s not over. MAGAts are gonna go batshit crazy. But without the guidance?
    We’ll see.
I haven’t said in awhile about Freedom of Speech without some kind protection from somebody like the WaD (wannabe dictator) maybe being the downfall of our Democracy. It got redundant quite a while ago.
As repugnantly enraging and unprecedented as Wednesday was, it could have been a lot worse. Civil War worse.
Let’s hope it was enough to change how we handle our new reality in communication.
Because Wednesday was a prequel of things to come if we don’t.

  9. Jane & PKM says:

Meh. As long as Scarvino, the tRump family, other surrogates and spox can spill Donnie’s insurrection messages, Twitter is weak tea.

Not impressed with any of the social media platforms that were used to support the replica Bundy Dildo Brigade’s assault on DeeCee. Double derision to DHS, the FBI and Capital Police who can claim to be st00pid or complicit. Budget cuts? How about indictments for all found to be complicit? Familiar names, Ken Cuccinelli, Chad Wolf and too many at the Pentagon to be named.

    9
  10. I just read this. It’s off topic, but thought it important to share how wildly insane some of the Capitol terrorists were, and how close we came to a far greater disaster on Wednesday:

“They had a map of the tunnels [in the basement of the Capitol], and they were talking about how they’re going to be able to stop Congress from leaving. They imagined that this was the day there were going to be mass executions of Congressmen.”

  11. Finally a success for Melania’s BeBest campaign.

  12. Rick @ 10: Thanks for that link. Maybe it’s just me, but a lot of that is kinda surprising, but then not really.
What struck a chord with me was what he said early on about MAGAts starting to believe their own joke.
I’ve seen that repeatedly. For lots of folks, what’s become trumpism is FUN. In the same way junior high punks enjoy the hell out of ganging up and tormenting weaker kids not in their group. Just boys being boys.(girls too) But back in the dark ages, lots of guys got out of school, lost touch with their posse, and the dynamic changed. Where’s the fun picking on somebody when you can’t brag about it to you buddies?
Then came Facebook, and finding like minded douchebags by the thousands from all over the country was right there on their phones. The fun never ends, and there’s none of that pesky crap about having to do it to somebody’s face.

That’s what f**king trump is the malignant master of glorifying, harnessing, and aiming.
    At us.
    And it’s fun.

    12
  13. Steve from Beaverton says:

Rick, nothing is off topic. Videos I saw today of them breaking into the Speaker’s offices were disturbing. They knew exactly where they were going and who they were looking for. Guys with plastic handcuffs removes any doubt they were looking for hostages. Knowing the potential escape tunnels is scary. I watched a video of a single policeman trying to stop the mob from breaking threw a door and he fired his gun through the window. Those proud boys are lucky more weren’t killed. Then there would have been martyrs. Trumpf and enablers need to be held accountable even if it goes past 1/20. I heard that impeachment can go beyond the inauguration date and could potentially result in Trumpf being ineligible to hold office again. I’m all for that.

  14. “Trump beats Twitter ban by tweeting from @POTUS account: President says he may build his own platform, warns Twitter is in cahoots with ‘Radical Left and Dems’ to silence him and says there will be a ‘big announcement soon’ – before his tweets are deleted”

I am not concerned about Trump building anything

    15
  16. Well.
    What a week.
2 Democratic senators were elected from Georgia.
Over 4K people died from COVID yesterday.
The POTUS incited a mob and sent then to invade our Capitol.
    5 people died.
    TRUMP IS BANNED FROM TWITTER.
    I actually thanked twitter tonight.

    16
  17. There were so many levels of crazy at the Capitol on Wednesday. The functional crazy forced open the doors & busted windows which allowed the wildly insane entrance into the building. Then you have Capitol police giving directions to specific congressional leaders.

My neighbors are convinced Trump’s crazy Tweets are coded messages for the true believers. How many in DC on Wednesday were simply delusional, and how many were out for hostages and/or blood? We’ll never know.

    17
  18. Someone (s) in Capitol police had to be a part of this

    18
  19. john in denver says:

Trump, his human followers, and the 50 million bots will be moving over to Parler and making it seem functional for awhile.

But everything Trump touches falls apart. Like Harry@15, I’m not worried about Trump’s future plans to “build” anything. I’m thinking he’s going to be distracted by other concerns: civil trials, IRS proceedings, criminal trials, impeachment, and the sudden reassessment of the value of his organization’s properties.

    19
  20. Elizabeth Moon says:

Learned more about the details of who knew what and who was ordered not to do their job. Also, if you haven’t seen the “million man militia” threats from these guys, you need to. They plan to invade D.C. on the 17th (ior before; I’d be looking for them next Friday) in very large numbers; they say they can take down a standing army.

Yes, Trump’s appointees in the Pentagon stopped military (including National Guard) response to the Capitol when it was requested. The Maryland Governor was finally given clearance by the Secretary of the Army, through what he’s described as unusual channels.

Military officers’ oaths are only to the Constitution, and do specify “enemies foreign and domestic”‘; the military has been (rightfully) reluctant to evade civilian control but has the responsibility to disobey unlawful orders in defense of the Constitution. That’s every officer, from newly commissioned second liieutenants (Army, Air Force, Marines) and ensigns (Navy) plus Warrant Officers, to five-star generals in the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Ideally, the JCS would agree on the parameters under which they would act against the orders of the Secretary of Defense or the Secretary of their branch. I suspect that conversation has been going on ever since Trump declined to say he would go for a peaceful transition.

And at this point, with his supporters already energized and ready to go–eager to go–even Cheeto Head might not be able to stop them. He’s not really an effective leader; he’s a mouthpiece for the plans of others who want to overthrow the government and bring back the Confederacy (most of them) or in some other way rule the rest of us by force.

What should happen but probably won’t: all important papers and selected treasures in the Capitol are put in trucks this weekend and moved to one of the remote storage sites where access is difficult and the locks solid. Doors to other connected buildings (Library of Congress etc) in the underground are closed and barricaded; staffs are sent home and buiildings occupied by troops. There were many of those when I was stationed at HQMC. Members of Congress are picked up at their D.C. residence and transported away from the city center to a secure location at least 30 miles away (in case the bad guys use a backpack nuke); their communications are taken or blocked so the bad eggs can’t reveal the location to the bad guys. (I know MCB Quantico well, but other bases in the area might do.)

The military has their emplacements set before the bad guys arrive. The bad guys will be bad, but they will find that nom, they can’t overrun a standing army with the weaponry our military has. It will be messy, it will be destructive, it will be a dirty, ugly, depressing battle, but our military can win it if allowed to do so…and that’s where the nature of the commissioning oath comes in. Do we have high ranking officers who will disobey Trump’s appointees?

Simultaneously, every military base in every state must be on alert and ready to respond instantly to attacks in state capitols (because those are also planned) and in larger cities.

Best case, the bad boys decide they don’t have the stomach for it, and surrender…but I don’t see the best case happening the way things are going.

As a citizen veteran, I will grieve if we lose the Capitol and the White House again…but not nearly as much as if we lose the country. Save the people who care enough about the country to do the right thing; buildings can be rebuilt.

(Just mentioning that in a previous book, I wrote about an insurrection coming to attack the capital city…and in the past two months have been reviewing some of my references on urban warfare for the new book. And a lot of my fans are military guys. I do still make mistakes but I sortakinda know how this goes.)

    20
  21. Elizabeth Moon says:

I was writing *that* book–the one with the insurrection attacking the center of government–in 1917. Not that I’m prescient or anything. It just felt right. Got a concussion that fall, and again in the spring 2018, which is why no book since.

  22. treehugger says:

Far righties,Trumpies and Proud Boys are all migrating to Parler, Gab and Rumble. I expect 45 will do the same if he hasn’t already. However, I read that Google and Apple have told Parler that if they don’t adequately monitor the content of the postings they will remove the app from their stores.

    22
  23. Rick, you’re definitely right about multi level crazy. As far as your last question, I personally think the MAGAts on the ground are getting their directions from the private online chatrooms the guy in the GQ article talks about. And no telling who’s running that stuff. But I bet the actual planners weren’t there getting gassed. So I think they were all delusional no matter what their plans were. But the fun I was talking about before doesn’t just apply to bullying, whether online or in person. When I watch the videos from Wednesday, I see some people that WERE having fun. The kind of fun they’ve fantasized about where their tactical gear actually comes in handy. I remember talking to a guy years ago who fondly remembered a prison riot he was in. He had a blast until they cracked his had open. But the mayhem right up until then was worth it to him. Because he knew once it was over it was back to regular prison existence.
Or the morgue. Same difference to him at the time.
I believe that because of the propaganda they chug, and wallow in, a lot of those people Wednesday have that same kind of mentality and expectations. Only in their heads they’re kept down by the government. So they’ve gotta get
their fun wherever they can. Hating gays, minorities, Jews, whoever else they figure is doing them wrong.
But a riot. Against the heart of the government keeping them down? That’s not just fun.
    That’s righteous fun.

    23
  24. P.P.
I agree, they were having righteous fun. The disturbing video which shows the siege from clambering up inaugural scaffolding towers outside, until the woman was shot inside – – there was a spring in the step of infiltrators, almost a Walmart Black Friday vibe, a rush of adrenaline, the joy of outrage against the big government deep state machine, while surrounded by other true believers on a mission.

They had fun right up until the woman climbed the hallway window and was shot from the other side by Capitol police. Even then, when most normal people would get the hell out of there, they didn’t.

  25. Sandridge says:

    Elizabeth Moon @20, 21, Agree 100%.
    Except you omitted USCG Ensigns.
The Coasties may have a very important role to play around DC, given all the surrounding waters, and the Navy being a little light on shallow draft boats [general rule- less than 65′ = boat, over 65′ = ship; some use 80′, it varies ].

    1917?

    25
  26. Rick @24, That woman who was killed by LEO has been made a martyred saint by the RWNJs. Check out the RW websites.
The MSM has gone easy on her, but she was a certified RWNJ, Q-Anoner, etc. Some of her online postings were pretty radical. She knew what she was doing.

    26
  27. Rick, yes in my work I used to go up to The Hill to attend hearings and such. Besides the underground passages there is an underground tram service. There are also often many open doors such as the delivery doors built for trucks. I’ve seen them stand wide open and not a guard anywhere while the trucks are unloaded. I think these bozos also knew that but they wanted to make a huge, ugly statement. I’m surprised actually that they did not set fire to anything. A burning Capitol building would have been the frosting on their demented cake. And from their behavior I get the idea that at least some of them were drunk. But I guess a body can get drunk on other things than liquor – maybe like incitement by tRump. Note: everywhere Britain planted the Union Jack their laws went there as well. They have a law on incitement. I’m trying to find such a parallel law in our own law books. the closest I have been able to come is aiding and abetting.

    27
  28. The Surly Professor says:

EM @ 21: I gotta ask with Sandridge: maybe you set the book in 1917. But surely you did not write it then. If so, you gotta let the rest of us oldies here at the Salon know just what you eat for breakfast every morning, and where we can buy it.

A General Hurley was ambassador to China in 1945. Some in the State Department swore he had ribbons going back to Shay’s Rebellion. Others claimed he wasn’t THAT old, but did serve under George Washington during the Whiskey Rebellion. [He first shipped out in the Spanish-American war].

    28
  29. Harry Eagar says:

    P.P. Agree generally.

I remember Kent State. It was fun to rally against the war, but as soon as a dozen people got shot the rallies stopped.

    29
  30. Don’t you just love the uproar over being blocked by a private company and he’s got the public -seen-by-the-world-covered-by-all-world news organization White House podium he can use???

    30
  31. Pence said he wouldn’t use the 25th as long as the orange 1 “didn’t do anything else.” He needs to make posting on any social media count. (My autocorrect wanted to make that “suicidal media,” which is sort of ok with me. )

    31
  32. Steve from Beaverton says:

It’s only Saturday afternoon and I’m pretty sure that in the next 48 hours Trumpf will use parlar or other means to prove he’s in a rage and dangerous. He’s already letting Jr carry his rage out to his followers. I’m thinking he can’t go a week before encouraging violence on 1/17. Then what will pence say? In fact if he doesn’t condemn more violence via his WH podium, he is saying more violence is ok with him. That should be grounds for the 25th amendment. Problem with pence now is he can’t come out and ask for Trumpf followers to stand down because that would also incite them. Repugnanticans are really in a box now.

    32
  33. Steve @ 32:
Ain’t it the truth? They’ve got no one to blame but themselves. They thought they could ride the bull into the china shop and bail out when the carnage got icky.
But the walls are getting ready to come down on them just like the rest of us. They might get hit first up there.
But the rest of us are still down here.

    33
  34. Trump subsequently posted through the official channel of the POTUS. SFAIK, those tweets were taken down and the channel banned.

So then **ahem** “someone” set up an account by the name of John Barron.

Remember John Barron? He was a journalist whose persona Trump took on when he was calling various tabloids to hype himself. I’ve heard recordings of the conversations — Trump didn’t even attempt to disguise his voice.

I hear that account has been banned, as well.
