Good Day For Judges

February 26, 2018 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

This morning, The Supremes rejected hearing DACA, gut punching Trump and giving us a temporary reprieve from having Dreamers deported.

That’s pretty good for one day.

Then just now, a federal court ruled that LCBTQ people are actually people.  The 2nd Circuit ruled that you can’t fire someone for being gay, something that both Jeff Sessions and Donald Trump think is a good idea.

The court, however, said that Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act says that you can’t discriminate due to sex.  Period. The End. Please quit fantasizing, Jeff Sessions.

Not bad for one day.

  2. Just thought you all would like to know this about the whole transgender situation. My son, who is trans, conducts trainings all over the country for school districts, universities, etc. He has done this for years as an activist. When Trump was elected, he was devastated and scared, but the people of the U.S. have stepped up, and he is getting requests from all over the country (including red states like Texas, Michigan, Alaska, the Dakotas, Wisconsin and the south), and is so busy now educating concerned groups that his wife has had to start doing trainings too as there are more than he can handle. He also produces an annual professional conference in Seattle for doctors and others who work with the trans community and need resources and information. That’s thanks to Trump…making America great again!

  4. Oops, my computer is being a pain this morning, and too many clicks put my comment on twice. JJ, feel free to eliminate one of them.

  5. There is a bi-coastal swing to two lawsuits on the same topic, one of which was reviewed by SCOTUS. The court’s rejection of Trump’s request to stop California from protecting DACA people has kind of a close cousin on the east coast. A similar case came up in the federal court in Brooklyn and because of the rejection of Trump’s wish for the California situation, the Brooklyn lawsuit that protects DACA recipients is considered to be in the clear. The Brooklyn case was based on the Administrative Procedure Act and put a nationwide injunction on deporting DACA kids whereas the California case protected them only so long as the lawsuit was in process. In both situations, thought, new applicants need not apply. Re-applicants only. Sounds rugged, doesn’t it. But the kids who were already in the system are breathing easier.

  6. SCOTUS and GoSuck will soon be deciding a labor case about dues from nonmembers, again. It’s Very Important for the labor movement. Keep an eye peeled (ouch!) for it.

  7. AK Lynne, my daughter is a media consultant. I asked if money has dried up under Trump and she said no, she’s busier than ever with requests for media education and they’re all well-funded. A good sign, I think.
