Cruzin’ for a Bruisin’

July 30, 2019 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

So, Ted Cruz has a bright idea.  With the deficit exploding, Ted knows how to make America great again – tax cuts for the super-rich.  No, I am not kidding.  Hell, he even wants it without congressional approval!

He’s demanding that Steve Mnunchin index capital gains to inflation with his executive powers, whatever the hell that is.  And because very few people understand what that means, he’s telling them it means trickle down.  Your damn leg. He’s asserting that by giving the super rich another damn tax break, they will use that money to make high-paying jobs.  Nope, they won’t.

Missing from Cruz’s call for Mnuchin to use “executive authority” to end this “unfair” treatment of taxpayers, which was signed by 20 of his Republican colleagues, is the fact that, according to the Penn Wharton Budget model, a whopping 86% of the benefit of indexing capital gains to inflation would go to the 1 percent (and reduce annual tax revenue by an estimated $102 billion over a decade).

So, instead of working for us, Ted is working for the super rich, again.  He’s a sumbitch.  And you can paint that on the barn.

“If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you,” Lindsey Graham said at the Washington Press Club Foundation’s 72nd Congressional Dinner.

Somewhere along the money trail Lindsey self dropped on his own damn head. Or, 50+ reasons Moscow Mitch fears impeachment hearings. Every Republicon in the Senate is a hot mess of covfefe and kompromat.

  3. detesTed Cruz is a goddamned sonofabitch fersure, but he just beat Beto in 2018 [albiet with a slim margin by TX standards], so he’s going to be around for a while.

But the mf’in lyin’ bastard John Cornyn is the one up for Senate re-election in 2020.
We need to have someone capable of beating Cornyn’s sorry ass now, and the motivation and resources to do that job. Cruz today is just a POS distraction.

Given the fairly surprising 2018 Senate race result a superlative Democrat just might win. Of course the degree which which detesTed was detested even in Texas might be a mystery factor for 2020 WRT rubbing off on Cornyn.
My Dem choices to bump him off would be either Maj MJ Hegar or Beto O’Rourke again.

Sandridge@3, we’re all for beating Cornyn and every Republicon like a drum. Beto or Major MJ Hegar can both be vetted by a simple question: withdrawing from Afghanistan and where do they stand. We can’t win. The Afghani security forces cannot hold; they’ve lost over 45,000 in battle since 2014. More troops won’t win this fiasco. Continuing to pour money and blood into a war less ‘winnable’ and now longer than Viet Nam is insanity. Republicons speak of rebuilding the military. That ain’t gonna happen while decimating unaccounted for resources in Afghanistan. We need Democrats who will tell the policy advisors and generals no more.

  5. Yeah, trickle down. We have been waiting for over 4 decades for trickle down. Hasn’t happened yet – but any minute. Any minute now.

  6. Jane & PKM @4,
Agree Afghanistan is a major and very expensive problem. We have basically been acting there as mercenaries for the Chinese [and even for the Russkis a bit] for much of our time there. The Chinese benefit hugely from many ongoing Afghani extractive enterprises, and product sales too.

If we were to pull out it would be just a matter of days before the Chinese Peoples Army poured across the border to protect their vested interests and border. In addition, serving as an example for all the surrounding states as to who is Da Boss.

With that, what Comrade Donnei was bragging about not doing in Afghanistan would be a picnic. The Chinese might first try the techniques they’re using on the unfortunate Weigar people, mass suppression and brainwashing, on any Afghani resistance. Failing that, the slaughter would be unimaginable.

  7. PS: Forgot to mention that Afghanistan is very rich in natural resources of every type, even agricultural. Most don’t realize that. Veerrry attractive to China, who have been content to let us ‘police’ the country for them so far. And they don’t even have to pay, Uncle Sucker has just cruised along.

All this shit [ME, Africa, Venezuela, etc.] is going to explode within a year or two, we need some competent leaders in charge by then.

  8. Jane & PKM says:

Sandridge, the Chinese risk opening themselves to two fronts: Afghanistan and North Korea. Let them, instead of fighting a proxy war for them that we are losing.

Actually there are 3 fronts with which to defeat Republicons:
    1.military/Afghanistan policy
    2. death penalty as proposed by Billy Bob low Barr; unless we want to become the Philippines under Duterte or the next Saudi Arabia.
    3. climate change. Simple message there would be 3C. Losing more than half the worlds’ population = economic bust; something that makes the Koch brothers and the .01% shudder. And makes Republicons lose their sponsor money.

Follow the money. Follow the money coming from dubious sources. Follow the money going into military blunders. Bush2’s leftovers and legacy.

    How to watch the debates

The debates will be held at the Tuesday, July 30th and Wednesday, July 31st at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan. They will both begin at 8:00 p.m., and air live on CNN, CNN International, and CNN Español. They will be streamed on CNN.com. Dana Bash, Don Lemon, and Jake Tapper will be the moderators.

    Which candidates made the debates?

The roster of 20 candidates who will participate in the second debates looks a lot like it did for the first debates in June. The only difference is that Montana Governor Steve Bullock has replaced Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), who dropped out of the race July 8th.
The lineups for each night were determined by a random drawing broadcast live on CNN. Here they are:

    Night 1 — Tuesday, July 30th:

    Bernie Sanders

Elizabeth Warren

Pete Buttigieg

Beto O’Rourke

Amy Klobuchar

    John Hickenlooper

    Tim Ryan

    John Delaney

Marianne Williamson

Steve Bullock

What are the rules for the debates?
Candidates will be given 60 seconds to respond to questions from moderators, and 30 seconds for rebuttals. Any candidate attacked by name by another candidate will be given 30 seconds to respond.

CNN has said that it will not, as NBC moderators did in June, ask raise-your-hand questions or down-the-line questions in which every candidate has a few seconds to answer the same question. CNN will also penalize candidates who consistently interrupt other candidates.

Are the debates a good occasion to drink?

    Yes, yes they are.

  14. Bill F. says:

This one goes way back for me. Indexing investments for inflation first came up in the 1970s when inflation was roaring. Taxing someone who bought stock for $100, and sold it later for $110 , but that would only buy $95 worth of food was unfair. But instead of indexing, we got lower taxes on capital gains, while Paul Volcker choked the inflation out of the economy. So I would be willing to make the trade, index investments, but tax capital gains and wages the same. (I also support Warren’s wealth tax and AOC’s 70% rate for million dollar incomes.) The rich will howl, but that’s a feature, not a bug.
