Cruz Not Having A Good Day

March 06, 2021 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

First, Fled Cruz got stampeded during the Covid bill negotiations.  He kept insisting that the bill would allow undocumented immigrants to get funds. He was repeatedly told by everyone that it would not.

And then it got worse

But that wasn’t all that there was to his day.

The Princeton Debate Club bitch slapped him.

Princeton University’s American Whig-Cliosophic Society voted to rescind the James Madison Award for Distinguished Public Service awarded to Cruz, a member of the Class of 1992.

It was the first time that the society voted to take back the award, according to the Daily Princetonian, which first reported the decision.

Geeezzz … being kicked out the Princeton Debate Society – that right there’s gonna leave a mark.

Thanks to everybody for the heads up.

Oh, Dude, Madam Karma Just Whacked You Upside the Head

So, they finally finished reading Ron Johnson’s demand of reading of Covid relief bill.

Then Republicans got ready for 20 hours of debate for each side. They had their speeches all planned out and everything. But, then

“They finished in the middle of the night and in the end, Sen. Chris Van Hollen, a Democrat from the state of Maryland, rose to ask for some consent to restart this debate beginning at 9 a.m. today in the U.S. Senate,” she said.

Van Hollen asked for 3 hours of debate instead of twenty hours.

And … Johnson was not there to object.

So … it was adopted and now Republicans have 3 hours of debate time instead of 20.

Way to stompin’ go, Ron Johnson! You have just screwed yourself, sir. How proud you must be.

Thanks to everybody for the heads up.

The Importance of Masks

March 05, 2021 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

A Republican state lawmaker in Arizona proved why they just don’t get it.

Trying desperately to make the point that mask are not needed, Joseph Chaplik said on the floor of the legislature —

“The HIV that was going to [lead to] the global destruction of human bodies with AIDS, we heard about that in the ’80s,” he said. “Yet no masks were required.”

I guess I’m wondering where he thinks we want him to wear a mask.

Clueless.  Just clueless.

Thanks to Carl for the heads up.

The Gap

March 04, 2021 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

.
“In politics there are lags and there are gaps. Since elections happen every two years there are often lags in representation. It just takes time for legislatures and Congress to catch up to the will of the people. When those lags become consistent they become gaps and we have that currently with the Senate. It is becoming what I like to call the “frustration gap.”
.
The frustration gap rears its ugly head in two distinct ways. Currently, the 50 Democratic senators represent 42 million Americans more than the 50 Republican senators. That’s certainly a gap. Gerrymandering has found a way to create a similar gap in the House, but the gap is not nearly as pronounced.
.
The second gap finds its way into individual issues. For instance, the Pew Research Center finds that 66 percent of the country is in favor of the $15 minimum wage according to its polling. Yet, the Senate can’t take it up because of current parliamentarian rules. In theory, such a robust public support should render even the cloture rule moot. Yet, representation is not truly representative. We certainly know that all too well here in Texas.
.
As someone that studies politics, the frustration gap concerns me. We have faux outrage like we saw on January 6th, but this has the potential to turn into genuine outrage. What happens as the frustration builds and nothing seems to happen. The minimum wage is only the beginning. We have voting rights legislation, environmental legislation, gun control legislation, and infrastructure upgrades that a majority of the population wants. As it currently stands, they may not get any of it.
.
What concerns me is that most people are educated only enough to know they aren’t getting what they wanted. Demagogues like the last president take advantage of that frustration. They feed off of it. They know good and well that they have no intention of fixing the source of it. After all, their party is the source of it. Yet, as long as most people don’t educate themselves as to who is behind their frustration, they will continue to put the same idiots back in charge. Then what?”

Too Late

Sub headline in Idaho newspaper: Idaho Republican State Representative Karey Hanks said she has “done some research” and said face masks can cause injuries to “even our souls.”

Yeah, she doesn’t want to wear a mask and there ain’t no stopping her research.

So, when questioned about her findings, she admits that the Mayo Clinic says it’s safe the wear a mask, but Karey insists that it causes anxiety by reminding us, “after all, people are wearing them to avoid getting sick or others sick.”

Which seems like there would be more anxiety if you weren’t wearing one, but Karey didn’t have any research on that.

And then …

For the damage to “our souls,” there’s no good way to measure that. Maybe the grief and anxiety of getting loved ones sick with COVID-19 could be the best barometer to measure it.

Which, of course, has nothing to do with a mask, and would only get worse without one.

So, maybe the headline should read, “Karey Hanks does research and discovers it’s safe to wear a face mask.”

Let’s introduce her to Greg Abbott.

I Dunno. Would I Go?

Okay, I get it – some crazy people are threatening to take over the capitol today. So, we shut the place down? I dunno. Is that what Tip O’Neill or Lyndon Johnson would do?  Oh hell no.

Think about it, we have a bunch of veterans in congress who probably could secure a window or maybe a short hallway on their own. Additionally, we have all the branches of the military and from what I hear, that’s a lot of men and women with guns and crap. Damn, we’ve even got a space force which ought to be good for something other than providing a distraction and snickers with their Star Trek uniforms.

I’m thinking I’d stay and just arrest their butts.

I think I’m getting real tired of them setting the agenda and running things.

I dunno, maybe the good guys have more information than I do but if that same group is coming back with flags, stick, and bear spray, I think we can take them and send them to Guantanamo.
