And Speaking of Getting Back to Work
On November 2nd, when it became clear from Nate Silver that President Obama was going to win and so was Texas State Senator Wendy Davis, State Senator Dan Patrick sent a letter to Texas Attorney Greg Abbott. Here’s a PDF of it.
It seems that Dan Patrick is real concerned with those ho-mo-SEX-u-als again.
He wants Attorney General Abbott to “detetmine whether the Texas Constitution precludes the ability of local political subdivisions from recognizing domestic partnerships by granting benefits previously only available to married couples.”
Patrick is completely flabbergasted that El Paso County, Travis County, City of Fort Worth, City of Austin, City of San Antonio, and the City of El Paso all offer domestic partnership benefits though health insurance. What’s next? Can they bring their partners to the city Christmas party? Is that what Texas has come to?
To make matters worse, Pflugerville Independent School District recently became the first Texas school district to offer insurance benefits to domestic partnerships. Oh dear God, there goes Pflugerville straight to hell. And Dan Patrick wants to team-up with Greg Abbott to save these independent governmental bodies from burnin’ burnin’ hot love.
Yes, indeed, this is the same Dan Patrick who wants Texas to secede from the union because of state’s rights and all. But city or county or school district rights? Screw ‘um! Until they starting electing fine Christian old white men who are too damn old to have s-e-x gay or straight, then somebody has to make a stand, dammit, and that person is Dan Patrick and Greg Abbott.
Thanks to Bob for the heads up.
Oh, Rats!
My friend Carol was quick to remind me this morning of the words of Molly Ivins.
First rule: No gloating. Actually, there is gloating allowed, but only in the exclusive presence of other Democrats. Gloating in the face of Republicans is rude and unsportsmanlike, and just gives them one more thing to complain about. Also, remember there is a possibility there may be some Republicans on the civil service staff—I have seen this when the R’s win—and it is really not good manners to watch them wailing around with their eyes brimming with tears.
Does this mean that I have to take my life-sized Obama off the front porch so that when my Republican neighbor across the street pulled out of his driveway this morning, that’s the first thing he saw? Forgive me, Molly, I just can’t help myself. It has to stay a couple more days.
My coffee this morning tasted so much better drank from a new celebratory mug. (Thank you, Bubba.)
And last night when my rowdy friends heard that Colorado passed legalization of marijuana, we all immediate stood up and shouted, “Road trip!” We probably would have left last night if we could have found a van with daisies painted on it.
It was glorious to awaken this morning knowing that my United States Senate has binders full of women in it. And, it was such fun to see Todd Akin get “legitimately raped” by Claire McCaskill.
I’m gonna gloat, dammit.
P.S. I forget to mention that Republicans lost their super-majority hold on the Texas House. That there is what we call hard down excellent news.
Thanks to Bryan, Aggieland Liz, and Carol for the assorted heads up.
Yes We Did
Y’all, I admit it. I was scared that they would steal Ohio.
But, we won.
Hillary 2016! (I have had a lot of champagne.)
A binder full of women are going to the Senate.
Comments, Predictions, Snark
Go for it.
