A few hours ago the New York Times published an op-ed from who they say is a senior Trump administration official.  File this piece under nuclear war with Trump.  The piece claims that their are “adults in the room” who are part of a secret resistance to “frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations” and protect the nation from his impulsiveness and proclivity to support despots while denigrating long standing allies.  The writer clarifies that their opposition of Trump’s worst traits is not some left wing effort – quite the opposite; he/she says this:

“That is why many Trump appointees have vowed to do what we can to preserve our democratic institutions while thwarting Mr. Trump’s more misguided impulses until he is out of office.”

After the op-ed exploded onto social media, Dan Rather tweeted,

I had a mixed reaction to this piece – First, it’s a Holy Crap moment where even insiders are talking about THE PROBLEM.  Second, I find the piece oddly comforting that there really are normal people in the WH diligently working to stop this lunatic from burning down the planet.  It’s somewhat cold comfort, but comfort nonetheless.

There is a place for anger, and THIS is it.

Probably seeing that the end is near, Trump is stepping up his efforts to destroy the US government and its stature around the world.  Just this week he’s nonsensically declared he has absolute power to pardon himself, sent his attack dog, Rudy Giuliani to raise the volume on Stormy Daniels and other women suing Trump, has continued tearing immigrant families apart at the border, refused to enforce provisions in the Affordable Care Act, allowed his EPA director to wreak havoc, allowed his education secretary to exclude guns from the nationwide study of school violence, and poked all of our allies in the eye.  The G6 just announced they are moving on without the US.

Pictures are worth a thousand words, and this picture of this week’s Time and The Economist magazine covers pretty much sums up the chaos that is the Trump regime.

In today’s NYT: The FBI is urgently requesting that everyone reboot their home and small business routers.  Russian malware has been infiltrating small networks causing damage from stolen passwords and personal data to rendering devices unusable.  This is not a joke, this is not The Onion.  Reboot your router.

And, no, Donald, this is not fake news.

DANGER, WILL ROBINSON, DANGER!  OBSCENITIES POUR FORTH IN THE FOLLOWING POST! (But you shouldn’t miss it.)

This morning, Albert Burneko of Deadspin wove the finest shimmering tapestry of obscenities, descriptors, and insults to perfectly describe the absurdity of the wild spinning the last two days that a little known comedienne somehow bullied the Press Secretary of the President of the United States during the WHCD.  And somehow, Chris Cillizza got artfully caught in the crossfire.  Just a brief sample:

“A frank and honest description of who she is and what she does would be much more harsh: Every day, Sarah Huckabee Sanders plants herself, by choice, between the public and the facts of what’s being done at the very highest levels of American executive power, and does her damnedest to break and delegitimize the means by which the two are brought together. She is one of the most visible and powerful people in American civic life, and she uses her visibility and power—she chooses to use her visibility and power—to confuse the public and degrade its grasp on the truth, rather than to inform or empower or serve it. Her willingness to do this on behalf of Donald Trump, day after day, and the unmistakable teeth-gnashing relish with which she does it, are the substance of her power, and the reason why anybody knows who the fuck she is at all.”

Trust me, patrons, THIS one is worth the read.

In the richness of multiple metaphors, the train carrying congressional Republicans to their retreat in West Virginia hit a garbage truck this morning.  This is a breaking story; apparently injuries on the train are minor, but unknown so far is if anyone in the truck or surrounding area were injured.

I just find it ironic that the train wreck that is the congressional Republicans was in an actual train wreck today – with a garbage truck.  The symbolism is overwhelming.

The Texas State Republican executive committee voted on Saturday to censure outgoing speaker Joe Strauss for standing up for human and equal rights.  Hard right goons were very frustrated last session when Strauss stood in the way of Patrick’s asinine Bathroom Bill and other bills that did nothing to help anyone but homophobic white supremacists.  More amazing?  The censure vote took a 2/3rds majority to pass, and they got it.  One of those opposing the censure vote was Michael McCloskey of Cedar Park who said, “The Republican Party of Texas has changed into something most mainstream Republicans would not recognize.”

That statement wins the day for the most understatement.
