By the Way

The Astros won last night.  I’ve never seen a game like it.

And I’ve never seen a ballplayer like Jose Altuve.

  1. I have no preference in this World Series but for you I was rooting for the Astros, so, good job guys!

  2. Would it be possible for you to link to other sources besides The Washington Post? I am not interested in subscribing even though it’s a good newspaper. I don’t need more stuff in my inbox. When I click on your links, that’s what usually comes up. I can’t read them unless I subscribe which serves more to annoy me than encourage me to do so.

That was the best game ever!!! I can’t wait for the next one.
Like you I’ve been to Colt 45’s, Astrodome, Reliant and Minutemaid park. Now I watch in the comfort of my living room with a hd tv. Go Astros!!

  4. Never Dodgers.

  5. Don’t watch, just registering with a sigh the fact that we now name stadiums after products (i.e. money) instead of people. The last game– soccer, not NFL– was just played in RFK stadium in DC, so I guess it will be torn down. I think one of the few stadiums still named after a person is Green Bay’s Lambeau Field, another reason to support the publicly-owned team.

What? There was a baseball game last night?? Why doesn’t anybody ever tell me about these things???

  7. I didn’t see the game, but heard about it from several sources. It sounds very exciting. Good for the Astros. I hope they win their first WS. We can throw a huge party here in the beauty shop in that event.

Astros won their first WS game ever last night and like JJ said it was a fantastic game. They have an amazing lineup of sluggers and the pitching ain’t bad! Altuve is such an inspiration to everyone. He reminds me of a young Pete Rose…..Charlie Hustle.
I can remember going to the Astrodome and buying a cheap seat and then able to go just about anywhere to sit – the attendance wasn’t that great back in the day. Does anyone remember the Houston Buffs…the minor league team that played in Buffalo Stadium prior to the Astros coming to town? Those were the good old days of Montrose, Marvin Zindler, and a much more progressive Texas!! Go ‘Stros!

  9. Hey, JJ (And everybody else): You might want to look at the comments with the article. Some of those commenting are the same people I “chat” with during each and every Nats game on the WaPo game day site. Notice how (mostly) thoughtful and informed these baseball fans are. Also notice the ones who are overseas–but follow baseball any way they can. You won’t find this level of discussion among Deadskins fans–I can promise you that.

Unfortunately for me, I just couldn’t stay up for the last inning. My husband predicted it would go at least 15, and my mind went back the 18-inning Nats playoff game awhile back.

Congrats on the Astros win JJ! I am rooting for the Astro just because it is the designated team for TWMDBS – hope I got that right 🙂 GO ASTROS!

  11. Even my non sports minded wife got excited about that game. That makes it truly special.

Great game! I don’t have a dog in this fight, as we are diehard Giants fans (me) and Royals fans (Dan). But I’d like the Astros to win their first series. Mostly, though, I want it to go 7 games, all well played, no injuries, and give us something to remember during the wait for spring training and next year.

@Rhea: I attended the first right through to the last Redskins games in RFK Stadium. Before that, my parents attended games at Griffith Stadium, named for the then Redskins owner, Clark Griffith. I hate the practice of selling the stadium’s name to the highest bidder that nearly every ballpark does.

Congrats to the Astros! May their excellent playing and good fortune continue!

I remember going to an Oakland A’s game in 1970, when they were some ungodly number of games ahead in the race for the pennant, and there were fewer than 1,500 “fans” in the stands. I couldn’t believe it! What a team that was!
