A Good Read on Pompeo’s Corruption

April 23, 2021 By: El Jefe Category: Corruption

As we all could see during the last 4 years, Mike Pompeo is a Jackass with a capital J.  But his behavior as Secretary of State revealed his abject corruption and narcissism.  Good read.

  1. Everybody knows the old saying that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Apparently it was Frank Herbert who said that absolute power doesn’t corrupt absolutely, but that absolute power attracts the corruptible.
I don’t know the context for the quote, but
I definitely agree with the last part, while firmly believing the original wisdom is just as true.
    Especially with today’s repugnantcans.
Their apparent sense of righteous entitlement boggles my comprehension.
Way too many of their leaders don’t just dish out the kool aid to get the votes. They’re using it for their own coffee, tea, and highball mixers.
And somehow still revering it like the blood of Christ at a Catholic Mass.
    Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Their worldview is sent down from heaven in a deluge so abundant that the best way they’ve found to show their worshipful reverence for it is to wallow around in it like mud wrestlers.
That’s my story and I’m stickin to it.

  2. Pompeo is a product of West Point. They must surely be proud of him. As I understand it, there are a number of Repub Reps and Sens who graduated from that school and also to some degree mirror Pompeo.

I actually feel sorry for West Point.

  3. The Surly Professor says:

Maggie @2: West Point has struggled for several years with “honor code” violations, AKA cheating scandals. The original idea was that students would monitor themselves, and any violation earned immediate termination as a student. But it seems they’ve slacked off, and several cases of cheating have been handled with relative slaps on the wrist. Probably because rigorous enforcement would lead to increasingly small graduating classes. Of course, when someone succeeds in cheating, getting caught, and still graduating and getting a commission, it does signal to other students that they’d be fools not to cheat.

So I’m not surprised that we get Pompeos, especially under a regime that ignores corruption and illegality.

Disclaimer: hey, I’m a teacher and so despise and loath cheating in schools. To me it is a sign of someone not likely to be honest (much less honorable) later in life.

Crooks. The Trump administration, with a few notable exceptions, was filled with crooks out to further their ambitions and feather their nests, from top to bottom. We lost a great many good people in all departments, who took so much of the knowledge of how things were supposed to work with them. We can’t let this happen again. How do the laws need to change?

  5. Harry Eagar says:

Nobody has a lower opinion of the American military than I do, but even so it is difficult to imagine anybody as stupid as Pompeo.

If it’s true that he had eyes on the presidency, did he not think far enough ahead to realize that the story of his small peculations would never come out and that (even if he could surmount them the way Nixon did his slush fund) it would cost him political capital and stick to his coattails forever?

Remember, he finished first in his class. So we have to suspect that the Army has people even stupider than him in its officer corps.

Maggie #2 – that swagger may be why the military is in trouble with all the sexual assaults and murders on bases. I think the Vanessa Guillén case is a prime example. The military and police need a refresher in how professionals behave – in public and private.

One of the best takedowns of Pompeo is
    https://www.salon.com/2019/11/23/mike-pompeo-secretary-of-nothing-unlike-bill-taylor-hes-a-disgrace-to-west-point/

    the last paragraph:
“Pompeo may have graduated first in his class from West Point, but he certainly hasn’t lived up to its motto, “Duty, Honor, Country.” He’s Donald Trump’s secretary of nothing. He’s first to kiss Trump’s ass, but last in loyalty to his troops and to his country. He is a disgrace and a coward.”
