So Close, But Yet So Far
Picture from my local newspaper.
Dude, it does not help to hold church outside if you’re sitting on each other’s laps. It’s not the indoor carpet or the walls causing the contagion.
“He encouraged the faithful to cast away thoughts of casting away sinners and non-believers who contract COVID-19, and pray for them instead.”
That’s what it says, I swear to God.
I am not defending the bone-headed foolishness of this pastor or his flock (They should not meet at all. If they must meet, they should sit more than six feet apart, and should wear masks.)
but:
meeting outdoors actually might help, slightly.
The far-UV in direct sunlight is hell on the integrity of virus particles — that’s why far-UV lamps can be used to sterilize rooms, including the air in those rooms.
But it takes a while.
If you are using an improvised cloth mask, it can help to leave it in sunlight for an hour or two.
But washing it with soap and then drying it for 20 minutes in the clothesdryer on high is probably better (soap disrupts the outer shell of virus particles and makes them incapable of entering a human cell; fifteen minutes above 133 F kills coronavirus, and many dryers reach 135 or so).
It wouldn’t hurt to hang it on the line in sunlight afterward.
If you’re re-using a real, non-washable N95, you can bag it for five days, after which most of the virus will have degraded. A bit of sunlight after that wouldn’t hurt either.
1My advice to Gov. Newsome when a like minded bunch of Covidiots met outside Sacramento, CA infecting 70 of themselves was to quarantine them in place. No warning; just surround the site with National Guard troops to quarantine the idiots in place for 3 weeks. Then charge them for the testing required to release them from quarantine. They can “Easter Feast” on MREs for the duration; also at their own expense. Like the Republicons so proudly say, “no free lunches, moochers.”
2‘Be sure to pick up your Darwin Award self-nomination form and submit it as you leave and go forth to spread The Word of Trumpsus.’
3How will all these saintly “men of God” get paid if they don’t have a real life congregation to pass the basket? The larger the crowd the larger the paycheck
4Remember: approximately half of all Americans are of above average intelligence.
And then there are these guys.
5Treasus?
6All these god botherers think that their imaginary, invisible sky demons sent all this bad stuff to get someone else. One can almost hear the C-19 virus laughing.
7@joel hanes: Another method I read in one of the many sets of guidelines about cloth masks suggests hanging it in the steam of a teakettle for ten minutes, then letting it dry before wearing it. I’m planning to use an S-hook on the range hood above the stove, then tossing it in the dryer on “high.”
As for the pastor above, I worry for his congregation. He seems to be telling them that only sinners and non-believers get COVID-19. They are likely to be horrifyingly surprised.
8If they don’t die from the virus, then they will from skin cancer sitting in the sun for an hour.
9It’s all about keeping the collection plate full.
10Papa, you nailed it, It’s about the collection. That’s why these “pastors” of mega churches want a big turnout for Easter. Most of these congregations aren’t part of denominations. They are owned by their pastor and into his/her pocket goes the bulk of the collection. They live in splendor like potentates.
11Gos, as they usually insit, is with them. Well, maybe but H’s holding his nose!
