Texas Adds Another “Worst” to the Long List of Worsts

August 31, 2021 By: El Jefe Category: Abbott, Alt-Right Racists, Alternative Facts, Gleeful Cruelty and Dickishness, Voter Suppression

The Texas legislature, over long opposition by Democrats and the majority of Texans, passed the most radical voter suppression law of 2021, making Texas the worst state in the union to exercise the Constitutional right to vote.  The GOP knuckle draggers rammed through a bill that wiped out very popular voting alternatives such as drive through voting, extended voting hours, and easy vote by mail rules.  They also empowered partisan goons to intimidate voters at the polls, and criminalized mistakes an honest voter might innocently make.  In short, GOP Fuckheads pushed us back to the days of poll taxes, arbitrary voter tests, and Jim Crow laws with Jim Crow 2.0.

Zero days since Texas was a National Embarrassment, racing other Red States to the bottom.

Teach your children well

Turning a kid from a kid into a functioning adult is harder work than one imagines. At least, it’s harder than one imagines before they are tasked with the job. Life is full of firsts and each one brings its own interesting twists and turns. Yesterday, my daughter got her first high school tardy. For someone that hardly ever gets in trouble, it was a lot more traumatic than it needed to be.

That combined with a complaint about how much playing time she is getting on the volleyball team sets up the perfect template for a life lesson. The tardy wasn’t completely her fault. Somehow, they never are. The lack of playing time is not completely fair. I’ve been on the other end of that argument and I know it really never is.

The challenge for any parent is determining which (if any) of these situations to get involved in and which to let go as a learning experience. We’ve decided to split the difference. We offer advice on how to deal with the situation so she can get more playing time or get her tardy expunged, but ultimately she is going to have to do it for now. That may change if an adult doesn’t respond responsibly, but that rarely ever happens.

The question of whether to allow children to fight their own battles is an important one. It’s an important question that brings us to where we are right now. Millions of children grew up with helicopter parents. I know because I’ve taught a few of them over the years. Naturally, the reverse is also true. Many children grow up with absentee parents. That somehow fits more of the parents I’ve worked with.

Discovering that life is not fair is an important life lesson. Discovering that we have to do things that may not make immediate sense is also a life lesson. It’s a lesson that obviously needs to be learned based on what we are experiencing now. I’m fully vaccinated and yet I wear a mask at work. That combination doesn’t make sense to millions around this country.

Millions also don’t get the concept of inoculating yourself against a disease they cannot see. They may not know anyone that’s had it. If they do then they can excuse themselves because that other guy (or girl) is a lot less healthy than they are. Besides, their buddy at work told them about a new drug they can take that’s much easier than the vaccine. Sure, they have to go down to the feed store to pick it up, but that’s not a big deal.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Our children tend to reflect our values. They are a reflection of the values we raised them with. We are a reflection of our parent’s values. Even when we didn’t get along and cursed them under our breath we still unwittingly became them in many ways.

Yet, there’s a difference. Teachers especially know one thing to be true. We often remember the worst thing a teacher ever did to us and we vow that we will never ever do that to a kid. We may remember the worst thing our parents did. For many this became a shield to ward off life’s most unpleasant experiences.

Losing the big game turned into everyone getting a trophy. Not getting picked for the team became everyone participating at the YMCA and getting equal playing time. Getting stuck at a school that doesn’t fit me became school choice, charter schools, and magnet schools.

Then, there is the vaccine. We have become a victim of our own success. No one my age knows anyone that has had the measles, mumps, small pox, or polio. They hear stories from the old folks, but it becomes a “back in my day…” kind of thing and gets quickly tossed aside. So, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that many have determined they don’t need it. Except you hear stories every day about someone you know (or someone that someone you know knows) going to the hospital or dying. If only we had been forced to live through those difficult times maybe we’d turned out differently. Sometimes fighting your own battles is a valuable experience.

A Lot of Capitol Hill Insurrectionists are on Their Own after Lawyer Hospitalized with COVID

August 30, 2021 By: El Jefe Category: Alternative Facts, Anti-Vaxxers, Insurrection, Trump

John Pierce is an attorney and defender of RWNJs, including 17 Capitol Hill insurrectionists, the Kenosha Wisconsin shooter Kyle Rittenhouse, and…wait for it…Rudy Giuliani.  He disappeared last week, and an associate from his law firm, the so called National Constitutional Law Union, lied to one judge that he’d been in an accident and then admitted to another judge that Pierce is hospitalized for COVID, on a ventilator, and unresponsive.  Pierce is well known as an advocate of right wing weirdos, has denigrated vaccines and protested against masking and social distancing.

Yet another rightwing weirdo is felled by his/her own stupidity.  This time, though, a lot of guys who also bought into The Big Lie are also unrepresented in federal court on charges related to the insurrection on January 6th.

Irony or Karma.  The answer to both inquiries is YES.

Louie!

Oh y’all, Louie is making the rounds.  Speaking to a Texas youth group, he hates on the Covid vaccine and lets people know that Trump was right all along.

I don’t know if y’all saw, but a month after President Trump left office, the American Journal of Medicine came out with a great article that they had discovered a regimen of medication that when taken together early in Covid that–you may have heard of it: hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin, a Z-Pak azithromycin, zinc.

Next month, Louie will be quoting the American Journal of Veterinary Vitamins.

I really didn’t want y’all to miss Louie’s choice of men’s business wear – gray pants with a brown sport’s coat, or maybe it’s a suit jacket he picked up at Goodwill.

Just when you think Louie has gone away, pop! he’s back. Just like that.

And, to make you grin – a real sign in a real real feed store.

You First, Dude

I think people will take horse medicine because the horses seem smarter.

Welcome to Mississippi, where the Governor explains why they ain’t afraid of no damn Covid.

After Mississippi became the world’s No. 1 hotspot for COVID-19, Gov. Tate Reeves told attendees at a Republican Party fundraiser in Memphis, Tenn., on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, that Mississippians “are a little less scared” of COVID-19 than other Americans because most share Christian beliefs.

“When you believe in eternal life—when you believe that living on this earth is but a blip on the screen, then you don’t have to be so scared of things.”

So, you gotta wonder why they were so scared of the terrorists of 911 that they willingly gave up their “freedoms” at the airports, over the telephones, anywhere outside of a free speech zone, and pretty much entering any sports arena.

Tate, 2,996 people died on 911. That was pretty much the first hour of Covid.

You’re gonna need to come up for some better excuses for incompetent governing.  This one is dumber than bean dip.

Here’s How It Works

August 28, 2021 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

So, here’s the deal.

Wisconsin Republicans own the State House so they are passing, without any hearings, a bill that allows them to spend $680,000 to investigate the 2020 election in Wisconsin.  This will be the second 2020 election investigation that they have funded with taxpayer money.

Kooky thing #1: They will not say how the money is being spent until after the bill is passed on Monday. There has already been numerous recounts in the largest counties in Wisconsin but Trump still lost every damn time. Trump has lost Wisconsin more times than a blind mapmaker.

Kooky thing #2:  The My Pillow guy, Mike Lindell, is egging this on. I hear that Lindell is losing money on his business because he has discovered that predicting when Trump will ceremoniously replace President Joe Biden is not making as much money as he expected. Right off the top of my head I know the predicted March date made a whimpering sound as it passed by and the August date could be heard belching. The next one Lindell is betting on is sometime next January and I predict the screeching of lost souls will accompany its passing.

Kooky thing #3: The Republicans want to hire former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman to run the investigation.  I know that Wikipedia is just slightly more reliable than my Aunt Thelma, but according to them Gableman knows about investigations because he has been personally involved in so many, one of which determined his decision to not run for reelection.

So, they are having themselves a wingdinger of a waste of taxpayer money in Wisconsin and they will have nothing to show for it, just like every other Republican attempt to prove we voted dead people.
