Anybody You Know?

March 18, 2021 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

A friend of mine from college recognized one of the insurrectionists from the January 6th violent assault on the capitol and I’m real jealous because she got the pleasure of turning that person’s name into the FBI.

So they released a new video today and maybe you’ll get lucky and recognize this guy who was trying to kill a police officer.

The FBI on Thursday released new footage of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, asking the public for help identifying rioters who assaulted police officers during the insurrection.

The videos show assailants attacking officers with fists, clubs, unknown chemical sprays and even a device that resembles a baton stun gun or cattle prod.

The language is raw because these are vulgar people, but it’s only at the first part.

More than 300 people have been arrested and 65 have been charged with assaulting a police officer. Not even one of them was antifa. Not even one.

Well, *Somebody* Has To Pay For It

Recounts of election results are not free. You have to pay trained staff to do it and it has to be overseen by someone familiar with the election code. And when the reason for the recount is to simply cause bad trouble, there’s no reason that taxpayers should have to pay for that.

Calling its lawsuit challenging 2020 election procedures “groundless” and “disingenuous,” a judge has ordered the Arizona Republican Party — and its lawyers — to pay the state thousands of dollars in legal fees, the Arizona Republic reports.

In his ruling, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge John Hannah contended the GOP’s team acted in “bad faith” when it questioned the process for auditing voting machines and sought to delay certification of election results last November.

Bad faith?  No kidding.

The Arizona Republican Party is already whining that they are going to appeal it.  Those dudes were wrong and were simply trying to destroy faith in the American electoral system.  The count on the machines and on the paper ballots matched 100% in every precinct counted.

It’s gonna cost them and the taxpayer more money to appeal it.  But instead of paying several thousand dollars, they are shooting for tens of thousands of dollars and hoping to stick you with the price tag.

Donald Trump taught them to never say they are wrong or sorry. I say they are both.

Respecting Law Enforcement

Please meet Kansas Senate Majority Leader Gene Suellentrop.  He’s a Republican.  He’s very much pro-life, except if you want to get drunk and mow people over.

Suellentrop was arrested at 4:00 a.m. yesterday driving around the capitol in Kansas. He’s accused of “driving under the influence, attempting to flee or evade a law enforcement officer, speeding and improperly crossing a divided highway.”

I love that, he sees flashing lights and immediately turns into every cheap movie car chase you’ve ever seen.

When it was time to line up for bail setting …

Shawnee County Judge Penny Moylan said she did not find probable cause to support Suellentrop’s arrest because of “failure to include pertinent information” in the arrest report.

That means the cop left off a zip code or something equally heinous.

I just wanna say, if he’d have been black, he’d be dead.

Happy Headlines!

Yep – like this one.

Truly, I think that’s what Mitch was trying to say yesterday with all his threats and foot stomping.  Ya know, all that cultural stuff he was talking about canceling is not gonna pass the senate because even Republicans know if they do all that crap, they will lose the next election.  Americans can outvote hillbillies.  It’s that simple.

Remember how they kept trying the repeal Obamacare. Well, until they had the power to do it and then – poof! – forget about Obamacare.

The cool thing at Fox, they forget to whisper.  All that blonde bleach does something to the air there. They just blurt it out.  They have a real hard time believing that anybody other than their base can hear them.

Thanks to SGray for the heads up.

Teacher Responds

March 17, 2021 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

JJ brought an interesting thing to my attention when she brought up the Jetton bill in her recent post. People usually have thoughtful comments, but i noticed that a lot of people were not fully aware of teachers’ situation. First of all, I’m not for looking a gift horse in the mouth. Getting stuff tax free may not seem like much, but it’s something I guess. These days, we are just happy to get anything we can get our hands on.

Truth be told, a beginning teacher gets a very competitive salary in most urban school districts. Starting pay has nearly doubled in the 20+ years I have been teaching. That probably matches the rate of inflation. The problem comes after that. I have a masters degree. That gets about 1000 a year extra. I also get a small stipend for special education. Add all that up and my pay is not a heck of a whole lot more than it was when I started. I am worlds better as a teacher. I cringe when I think of stuff I did as a rookie. I think any other veteran teacher would say the same. However, I am not going to complain about pay. I live a comfortable life.

One of the things we used to get was a 250 dollar tax rebate on our income taxes for supplies we needed to buy for our job. It didn’t cover everything, but it made a nice dent into it. Teachers usually buy supplies for their students, bulletin boards, posters, and occasionally buy supplies for actual teaching. Sometimes budgets allow for these things, but they never go far enough and you often have to go through mountains of red tape just to get simple supplies.

If you are a parent you have noticed what some call compliance creep in the business. Every year we get the list for supplies from our daughter’s teachers. Every year the list grows and becomes more expensive. Most years we end up spending more than 100 bucks for the supplies. Many families can’t afford that. Unfortunately, that’s one of the reasons why the bill is so high. More than half of what we buy doesn’t go to our daughter. It goes to the other kids. If you have kids you’ve probably noticed the same thing. Teachers ask for kleenex, dry erase markers, multiple notebooks, pens, pencils, and paper. Some of these things are used by students. Most are used by the teachers or other students.

This is part of the hidden cost of bringing kids back to school. They provide us with the worst hand sanitizer money can buy. So, most teachers supply their own. You also have other associated costs with keeping classrooms safe for students. Some schools can afford that stuff, but many are doing good to remain open. So, the teachers foot the bill or they pass it down to parents that can afford to pitch in.

So, I’m not looking 8.25 percent in the mouth, but it’s also not nearly enough. Maybe the funds going to education in the new stimulus will help. The devil is always in the details and how the money actually gets dolled out. I’m looking forward to seeing how it will impact us in the classroom.

Mitch is Worried

March 16, 2021 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Okay, would Mitch be saying this is he thought for one minute that Republicans were going to win back the senate?

No, he would not.

Who does he think he’s kidding?  Drained of comity and consent? From a man who held the senate hostage for a year over a supreme court nominee? And then rammed through a last minute appointment for Trump.  Oh, please.  We were there January 6th. We saw scorched earth, compliments of Mitch McConnell.

Dick Durbin responds …

Mitch McConnell is a mean, crooked, desperate old man and losing control of the senate is the worst thing that’s ever happened to him. And he’s going to be cussed meaner if his wife gets indicted.
