Yeah, But Shouldn’t Moral Bankruptcy Count, Too

The NRA is trying to declare bankruptcy, walk out on its debts, and reorganize itself in damn Texas.

Oh hell, no.

They spent themselves into massive debt giving all the officers enormous bonuses, the lavish care, feeding and housing of Wayne LaPierre’s hussy friend, and vacations worthy of the King of Siam.

The NRA’s hopeful ride back into the land of plenty and blood got a little gut punch yesterday when a US bankruptcy administrator asked the bankruptcy judge to dismiss the NRA efforts or at least appoint a trustee to oversee it.

Additionally …

On Monday, Gerrit Pronske, an attorney for New York state, called the gun lobby’s attempted move “a circus sideshow” designed to avoid legal accountability, warning that approving its reorganization plan risked turning bankruptcy courts into “a haven for wrongdoers.”

Like it always hasn’t been a haven for wrongdoers.  Warning that the NRA could actually go lower on the moral scale scares the fool outta me.

Garman countered that the bankruptcy plan was vital to the survival and future success of what he termed “an irreplaceable” civil rights organization.

So, they are trying to push the NRA as a civil rights organization?  Pick my jaw up off the ground and call me gall smitten.

The major argument from the NRA to proceed with the bankruptcy and put LaPierre back in charge is that they know they’ve been wildly irresponsible in the past with luxury yacht trips and $300,000 in suits from a Beverly Hills boutique, but they are going to be good now.  They promise. They are even going to hire a compliance officer, who of course is probably LaPierre’s nephew.

The two major stumbling blocks to the NRA are Lisa Lambert, a lawyer with the U.S. trustee’s office, which participates in bankruptcy cases to protect taxpayer interests and enforce bankruptcy laws, and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

You go, Girlfriends.

“an irreplaceable” civil rights organization.” ??? Too funny! Can’t wait for them to attempt sailing that dirigible past Leticia James.

  2. Love that women will be in charge…..the NRA butts need to land in prison where at least they will be useful.

I do enjoy the civil rights talk. I’ve seen people I know produce memes about how they support “constitutional carry.” If we translated that into English we would find it means, “jackasses that need their gun to feel like big men (and women I guess)”

When I was taking my poli science classes we were taught that every interest group honestly felt that if their issues were brought forward then America would be a better place. So, I guess the NRA can be allowed their delusion.

In other bankrupt people news: the Sacklers, those wonderful people who made way more money and ruined far more lives than any Mexican cartel, are trying to use bankruptcy agreement to shield themselves and their fortune from lawsuits and criminal proceedings:

And big surprise: Texas is not one of the states trying to block them. I guess AG Paxton has more important things to do, like blocking mask mandates and helping the poor energy companies who harvested big bucks from Texas in the last big freeze. [Not just picking on Texas. Indiana also seems to think those poor Sacklers need protection from the mean libs trying to make them own up to their crimes.]

The NRA is a “civil rights organization” the way Trump University was an institution of higher learning. I call them the Murder Lobby.

The NRA had so many Russians hovering around and donating money in 2016, then suddenly disappeared after his majesty was elected. Why has no one ever looked into those donations?

Come on, have some sympathy for poor wayne. Saw a video of him trying to kill an elephant during what was certainly an NRA funded African hunting trip. Emphasis “trying “ badly.
If his cash cow goes away, how’s he going to pay to try and kill more elephants? Guess that would violate his civil rights.

  9. john in denver says:

NRA has moved … now, the question is whether the NY corporation will be able to be bankrupt AND shift all its resources to the TX corporation.

Do you think Wayne will wait until AFTER the bankruptcy petition is decided before getting suits with a weight and cut more appropriate to the atmosphere in Texas?

  10. Harry Eagar says:

He already lives in Texas. That’s where the NRA was going to buy him a safe house.

Like it or not, the courts will view the NRA as a civil rights operation, though possibly a corrupt one. The 2nd Amendment defines a right. Not very well and the argument is around its boundaries (if any). But any group that purports to defend any of the constitutional provisions is a civil rights organization.
