Remember when I asked you guys to help me buy ballot by mail applications for my county and the other small counties in Texas? Well, you won.
I picked one of the judicial races at random and take a look here. You can see it full size here.

You did that. And I can tell you that you could not have picked a better guy to do it for! He’s smart, calm, tough, and very kind. He’s more than just a man with a gun.

Yeah, but…
The one thing, the absolutely, most important, #1 priority we had was…drumroll?
Re-taking the Senate.
Didn’t get it done. Had lots of opportunities, but no cigar.
Lost ground in the House, too…what’s going on there, huh?
1151 years. Past not necessarily being prologue. Body cams and mental health training are good things too.
2Good news about Sheriff-elect Fagan. We need more local Dem. office holders. People in Texas have almost forgotten what Democrats actually are because the GOP have made such boogeymen out of us. We won’t have big advances in the next ten years because of our gerrymandering will become more extreme. But hopefully, these new office holders around the state will lift us all up.
3I am thrilled about the judicial results and the sheriff. It has become very obvious to me that we NEED our courts to help combat evil. God knows there’s been plenty of that spewing out of the executive branch the last 4 years, and the courts have put a stop to much of it.
cbarles @1: We lost Senate opportunities in many states. We Democrats need to figure out how to reach the rural voters and the voters of color. WHY did more people of color vote with the Republicans this year? I’m with JJ in believing we need new leadership, and it needs to consist of women, people of color, young people and gay and trans people. Name your mix.

9An elevator speech about what Democrats really stand for is needed in Texas (at least). I mentioned Democrats to a native Texan (R) I know and the response was an incredulous look and a shouted “DEMOCRAT!” — as if the Devil had suddenly appeared.
One interviewer of Republican voters reported “abortion, judges and lower taxes were what R voters voted for.” Those voters apparently had no idea what Democrats vote for; Republicans are just happy to “own the Libs” and fear “socialism” — again things undefined to the point of meaninglessness.
10My friends Washington, Lincoln, Hamilton, Jackson, Grant, and Franklin said they’re happy to help again.
11I love the fact that this effort is a ‘local’ effort that supports a defined method to expand the voting block of Texas Democrats that don’t have any support. The larger Dem organization that gets $$$ donations have other fish to fry (that’s OK), but this project has a well defined objective that is not being supported (or noticed by anyone else).
Have you considered setting up a mechanism for automatic monthly donations? I know times are tough. But a stream of small donations over a period of time allows you to plan an might afford some flexibility.
In addition, this might also give you a chance to plan some really unpleasant other surprises for the next round of elections.

But the Senate…sob… and two of my favorite members of Congress lost or are behind. Lauren Underwood is behind by 600+ in her IL district, and Debbie Mucarsel-Powell lost her FL district. Both with intriguing life stories. Hopefully Lauren can pull out a win.

18msb #17: current results show Lauren 628 votes behind. She must have been ahead on the 4th (date of article). Race still has not been called though 100% in.
If she doesn’t win and is interested in serving in government, perhaps Joe could give her a job in her field – she’s an RN. Heaven knows the country could use the help since Orange45 screwed up on the pandemic.
