Who Really Counts?
Okay the numbers are in and it appears the Astros came out on top.
Approximately one million fans attended the event [the parade downtown], and that number could rise, according to Susan Christian with the City of Houston. Mayor Sylvester Turner dubbed the event the largest parade in Houston history.
On the other hand, the top end of the estimates of the crowd at Trump’s inauguration is 600,000.
So, why would anybody even ask this question?

Trump never would have won a best-of-seven election series. His designated appointments would have all quit, been fired, or indicted before the fourth or fifth game. And if he had to go to the bullpen, he would have quickly discovered bull—- can’t pitch for the save.
2Oh, Onion! You KNOW we can’t have a conversation about that yet! It’s WAY too soon! Emotions are too raw! We still aren’t allowed to talk about 20 first graders that got mowed down by the unstable offspring of a gun nut several years ago! (That didn’t even happen, really, according to some of the fruitcake fringe!) I. CAN’T. STAND. REPUBLICANS.
3Drumpf’s parade that hasn’t been scheduled was definitely larger.
Shooter was a white male mid 20s.
4I’ve never understood the whole “visit the WH after winning a championship” vibe. Why? Unless the team plays in DC or nearby Maryland or Virginia why pay the freight to the WH? I just don’t get it.
5It’s not like the current administration has been all that supportive of hurricane survivors on Puerto Rico.
6And they claimed that Obama was “the most polarizing President in history”….
7They should be careful with that trophy, by the way. Some European soccer team was riding an open-topped bus in their victory parade, and the guy up front holding up the trophy dropped it and the bus ran over it. It didn’t look quite as good after that.
8Aggieland Liz – It is far too early to discuss gun control after this shooting.
However, it’s been almost 5 years since Sandy Hook. We can have THAT discusdion, if you like.
9Hi Arakasi. That was biting hateful sarcasm. The problem is, we can’t have the discussion now or ever, which was my point. Republicans, backed by the NRA, flat won’t allow it. If you go read Jim Wright’s Bang Bang Crazy series over at Stonekettle Station, he does an excellent explication of our nation’s idiotic reaction to these things, which follows an absolutely predictable pattern. So: here we go again. I am very weary of it all.
10And yeah. Five Christmases and Hanukkahs ago 20 shattered families had to figure out what to do with gifts that could no longer be given. But that didn’t happen?!? I remember crying about that; I am unlikely to forget it. Schools are no longer safe; churches are no longer safe. For crying out loud, even a Walmart was targeted! My husband noted the number of Hispanic names in the reporting of these last two incidents. He strongly suspects these are acts of terror against “suspected immigrants” by the perpetrators. Is it two early to have that discussion? Oh no, I forgot-white men are NEVER suspected of terrorism, right? The right wing has made a 40 year career of lying to itself, and we are now reaping their bitter fruits.
11Everyone has a bigger everything than Orange Whore — except mouth.
12Wimbledon has the best trophy, followed by hockey, then baseball. The others just have their sport’s ball on the end of a stick on a silver plate. Booooooring.
13Our president (lower case p) responds only to leverage and negotiation. This is an opportunity for the team to agree to consider meeting with His Royal Drumpfness only after H.R.D. puts a large aid package to work healing Puerto Rico and the work is in progress. I mean serious progress.
After that happens, the team could vote on whether to attend. Take that, T-bag!
