  1. Jane & PKM says:

Would add the many variants of “render unto Caesar,” but that’s not in Donnie’s lexicon or whatever version of 2 whores from Corinthian or wherever he worships. Dotard45 wants to BE god, Caesar, Putin, Kim Jong-Un, and the unholy ghost of Idi Amin.

What narcs me is that Congress is totally ducking their responsibility to provide checks & balances on the ***king moron.

  2. maryelle says:

    Matthew 18: 5-6
Whoever welcomes one such child in my name, welcomes me.
If anyone causes one of these little ones…to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

Hope Trump and Sessions can swim.

  3. Katherine says:

Matthew 19.13-15. Then little children were being brought to him in order that he might lay his hands on them and pray. …. Jesus said, ” Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”

  4. Bob Boland says:

Even we agnostics are familiar with the admonition, “What you do to these the least of my brethren, you do to me”. Guess that means ol’ Jeffy would be cool with incarcerating JC.

Not meant to offend anyone but that is the problem with using the Bible as the absolute truth/law. It was written by men. You can have three sides to any question answered in the Bible. Take your pick. I do not need the Bible to know separating children from their parents who have come to America for a better life is wrong!

  6. How is it, that the US, a nation that judges and sanctions other nations for human rights violations, engage in the same despicable treatment of people here?

  7. kate Dungan says:

Session’s gets to *suffer the little children…* in the bible and forgets the rest of the verse.

  8. Susan on the Left Coast says:

‘You must treat the foreigner living among you as native-born and love him as yourself” — Leviticus 19:34

“So you also must love the foreigner, since you yourselves were foreigners in the land of Egypt.” –Deuteronomy 10:19

  9. 1) I agree using a delusional text born out of ignorance, fear and bigotry in the middle east from over 2000 years ago is a sign of irrationality.
If one must use a fantasy as a guide try either the Lord of the Rings, or The Bible of the Flying spaghetti monster. Both make more sense, both have way fewer internal inconsistentcy’s and both make more sense.

    2) if one is going to use these obscure and inane texts if one claims to be a christian at least use the new testament. Consistently using the old testament betrays the new testament. The old testament is the book of the Jewish religion not christianity. Speak of the 7 Beautitudes not the 10 commandments. Speak of the ( obviously false claim) that the Christian fantasy is a god of love not of vengenence as the god of the old testament claims to be.

    3) Basic humanity should be enough for us to recognize the vileness of separating children from their parents for punitive purposes. By bringing myth’s, legends and fantasy’s in only obscures the debate and gives those who have already surrendered their humanity more room to confuse the issue.

  10. RepubAnon says:

In the novel Ivanhoe, Rebecca was having a “me too” moment with a man who quoted some Bible text in defense of his sexual harassment. She responded: “If you read the scriptures only to pervert their meaning to your own vile purposes, the Bible to justify your profligacy, your crime is like his who, from beautiful and salutary herbs, extracts a deadly poison

  11. A friendly reply to K. You wrote: “Consistently using the old testament betrays the new testament. The old testament is the book of the Jewish religion not christianity.” Au contraire. Unless you believe in Replacement Theology, which asserts that Judaism has been replaced by Christianity, both the Hebrew Bible (which Jesus read and often quoted)/Old Testament and the New Testament have important ethical and spiritual lessons; Christians should read both testaments. The one is not “bad” and the other is not “good.” Also, since Jesus lived and died a Jew, it’s puzzling to see someone assert that quoting the OT is a “betrayal” of Christianity.

But I digress. Truth be told, politicians love to misuse and misquote scripture for their own purposes– and in fact, I believe there’s a Shakespearean quote that applies here: about the Devil’s ability to quote Scripture to suit his own purposes. So Mr Sessions has just proved he’s working for someone other than God, since the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament is very clear about the commandment to love and welcome the stranger.

  12. I hope nobody here thinks those right-wingers actually READ that Bible they keep waving around…. They’ve memorized five or six verses they use to bash gays and anyone who thinks in other ways than they do, but that’s it.

    12
  13. “Suffer” in the Bible actually translates as “allow” or “let”. To take it any other way as in a cover when abusing little children is just plain damn freaking WRONG!

And Donna, may I add that using the Bible like a rented mule is definitely as bad as using Jesus or the flag in the same way. No, it will not get you through the Pearly Gates! St. Peter has standards!

El Jefe, definitely agree with your thesis! In spades!

  14. To be argueing the values of delusional fiction written to explain and justify ignorance, bigotry, fear and self rightousness is a bit of a irrelevent mind game but I have a moment.
Judging from my parochial education the supposed birth of Jesus is meant to be seen as a bright line separating the past god of anger and vengeance of the old testament with the new god of love ( what a sad joke) of the new testament.
Never said or implied that one was good or bad jsu a difference.
Both should be read, just as the Plato’s Republic and the Magna Carta, as examples, should be read to understand origin of The US Constitition. But one does not continually cite the Magna Carta or the Republic when faced with issues about the US Constitition. So it is with the old testament and the new. If you ascribe to christian view of a new age of jesus and love why continually, and almost exclusively, cite the book of a god of vengeance and anger?
Granted inconsistentcies usually don’t bother those who ascribe to the delusion that all religions are but then don’t even try to present a coherent arguement based upon incoherent documents.

    14
  15. The wingnuts and their Christianist pals who try to use religion as a weapon are being FIBLICAL.

  16. When the Fascisti start with Romans 13:1 we need to finish with Romans 13:9-10 NIV

  17. Marjorie Wood says:

Jesus was a Jew. He also wanted other Jews to practice their religion with their hearts and not just the calculator. Example: Tithing. People were supposed to tithe all their crops and anything else they produced. Tithing mint, anise and cumin meant counting all the leaves and giving ten percent of the crop to the priests. Imagine counting a garden full of mint leaves. (“Do torn leaves count?”) I’m sure they had regular seminars on “Quicky ways to tithe herbs” or “Does this mean fresh mint, dried mint, or powdered mint?” Then they’d break up into sub-groups and argue about “What does that really mean?” Is it the letter or spirit of the law that counts? Meanwhile their parents are being neglected, unfed, developing bed sores or whatever. Jesus didn’t think that was very nice.
