Wanna Chew Barbed Wire And Spit Nails? EDITED

March 19, 2020 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

This will get you rip snorting.

The chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee warned a small group of well-connected constituents three weeks ago to prepare for dire economic and societal effects of the coronavirus, according to a secret recording obtained by NPR.

The remarks from U.S. Sen. Richard Burr were more stark than any he had delivered in more public forums.

And who was given this information while the president was still saying it’ll disappear soon?

The luncheon had been organized by the Tar Heel Circle, a nonpartisan group whose membership consists of businesses and organizations in North Carolina, the state Burr represents. Membership to join the Tar Heel Circle costs between $500 and $10,000 and promises that members “enjoy interaction with top leaders and staff from Congress, the administration, and the private sector,” according to the group’s website.

Okay, this is just me talking and I’m nobody but if I was somebody I’d start yelling that only the rich get life jackets on the Titanic?

I say that life saving information should not be insider information. There ought to be a law against this crap.  So, if you lie in North Carolina, Senator Burr needs to hear from you.

Thanks to Craig for the heads up.

EDITED!  Lock him the hell up.  His first concern was keeping this from the public so he could profit off of it.  Immediate resignation is called for and any Republican who opposes it is a death profiteer.

I hate these people.

  1. You are absolutely right!

    1
  2. So, he’ll warn his friends and contributors, but not his constituents, or the president, never mind the rest of us. Yeah, North Carolina, Burr needs to hear from every one of you.

  3. on a brighter note
was watching an interview with a ventilator manufacturer who said they have refused orders from high-net-worth individuals

Actually, JJ, despite the famous people who went down with the Titanic, the vast majority of deaths were among those in steerage. So . . .

  6. How is this not insider trading?Seems like a sell/sell/sell fire alarm to a select few.

  7. Much like price gouging, this sort of poorly done sharing of info should be illegal.

Deaths of despair: why America’s medical industry explains working-class suicides

A system based on corporate pursuit of profit sets the US apart from other countries, fleecing the poor to give to the rich.

Edit: The US healthcare system is helping to kill people in staggering numbers. And when it isn’t driving Americans to an early grave, the medical industry is bleeding the rest of the country of resources at the expense of decent jobs, crucial infrastructure and schools, according to a new book by two of the country’s leading economists.

As America’s health system faces its greatest challenge of recent times in the coronavirus, Anne Case and Angus Deaton, who won the 2015 Nobel prize for economics, say the pursuit of profit by medical corporations has played a leading role in the surge of “deaths of despair” since the 1990s, led by opioid overdoses, alcoholism and suicide.

The Princeton economists were the first to reveal the phenomenon which by 2017 was claiming the lives of 158,000 Americans every year – a number they liken to three 737s’ worth of passengers falling out of the sky every day.

  9. Who says backroom meetings are a thing of the past? (I don’t think anyone says that, but this incident certainly proves they’re not)

    But wait, there’s more:

VIPs go to the head of the line for coronavirus tests
Dozens of NBA players have gotten tests while many other Americans wait for diagnoses.

Actors, politicians and athletes have had quick and easy access to coronavirus tests while other Americans — including front-line health-care workers and those with obvious signs of infection — have been out of luck. The nationwide shortage of coronavirus testing kits has amplified inequities in a health-care system in which some merely call a concierge physician while others hope for attention in crowded emergency rooms.

  11. Did he bother to give his own thuglican Governor a heads up as well or was that information strictly a cash up front deal?

If there’s a sleazy, underhanded, unethical way to behave,
Rethugs will find a way to do just that. Who cares how many Americans lose their retirement saving, run out of money and food or die from COVID-19. Certainly not the Repugnicants.

    15
  14. Let’s get real . Burr is not the only one who uses the information he gets to avoid losses on the stock market. SToo Many Senator millionaires testifies that this unethical prctice exists

    17
  15. Insider trading is a crime.

    18
  16. Charly Hoarse, I just saw that on Huffington Post. It explains a lot about why Richard Burr didn’t warn the public about what was coming. One more sleazy Republican.

    19
  17. “Insider trading is a crime.”
    Not for Congress.
Tried to close that loophole last time the d’s had senate but I beleive that moscow mitch filibustered it.

  18. STOCK Act 2012
Was wrong it did pass but much like the Hatch Act it’s enforcement has been a joke.
Burr was one of 3 Senators voting against it. Requires that Senate “Ethics” (oxymoron with thuglican senate) review and issue guidelines.

Edit: Israel’s secretive Mossad intelligence agency launched a covert international operation this week to fly in up to 100,000 coronavirus testing kits, although the effort may have been in vain as critical parts were reportedly missing.

Domestic news outlets, citing government and health officials, reported that the secrecy of the operation was because the kits were acquired from at least two unnamed countries that do not have good diplomatic relations with Israel, meaning the government could not openly buy them.

Israel maintains low-level relations with several states in the Middle East, especially Gulf states, that do not officially recognise it in protest against its treatment of Palestinians. It is also likely that governments and manufacturers would not want to be seen to be sending vital test kits abroad while dealing with a domestic outbreak.

Israel ‘utilising all the state’s capabilities … including Mossad’, says Netanyahu’s office
“The equipment that arrived in Israel is required and essential,” it added, following reports that the kits may have been unusable.

Swabs! Got it. We’ll use Q tips if you don’t mind my fingers in your orifices.

The Israeli news website Ynet had earlier quoted the health ministry deputy director general, Itamar Grotto, as saying the kits were missing swabs, which are used to take samples from the nose or the back of the throat.

  21. My first thought was personal gain, too.
Not just selling off, but shorting mainly. He apparently gave his peeps a 2 week head start. Compared to the everyday, unconnected investor.
But I’ve got another question. Where’s Mark Warner been?
J.J.’s post was about vital information not getting out.
Warner is #2 on the committee. I can’t believe he’s not as well informed. Why we didn’t hear this news February 13th is deeper than partisan divide.

Sen. Kelly Loeffler, Georgia, appointed and running in a “jungle” (everybody runs on same ballot top two advance if no one breaks 50%) special election to fill Isaakson’s seat.

K #13 – Our NC Governator is a Dem and so wasn’t in Burr’s loop. Gov. Cooper has, however, moved quickly to lock down the state so us folks out here NOT in the hallow halls of Burr-dom stand a chance of staying healthy, for which Cooper has been soundly criticized by the Rethuglicans in Raleigh.

    The GOP sucks.

So obviously burr wouldn’t bother to notify him.

All 4 of the Congresspersons need to resign (including 1 dem).
Instead of locking them up, they out to be forced to donate all of the money they saved by insider trading, and be forced into service to help in hospitals dealing with the Coronavirus, even if it means cleaning the bathrooms. They are probably qualified for that job.
