Welcome to The World's Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc.
My name is Susan DuQuesnay Bankston. I live in Richmond, Texas, in the heart of Tom DeLay's old district. It's nuttier than squirrel poop here.
I am honored and privileged to know Miss Juanita Jean Herownself, hairdresser extraordinary and political maven. Since she does not have time to fiddle with this internet stuff, I type her website for her and you can read it if you want to. If you don't, she truly does not give a big bear's butt.
A lot of what I post here has to do with local politics, but you probably have the same folks in your local government.
This ain't a blog. Blogs are way too trendy for me. This is a professional political organization.
Reminds me of the fellow from Minnesota who told me only two seasons up there: Winter and Under Construction
1Yeah, all y’all!!
2I35 been under construction longer than 8 years. Closer to 60. But I see Asper’s point. Yall.
3JAKvirginia, “all y’all” is the second person plural emphatic, the antonym of “ain’t none o’ y’all.” In this case, ain’t none o’ y’all gettin’ no wall.
4As a Minnesotan, let me tell you Paul, yeah, it’s true. With global warming greatly shortening our winters, construction season is longer than ever.
BTW, not only is Minnesota home of the Mississippi River source. Even more thrilling, we’re home of the I 35 source! Woo-hoo!
5Rhea, you do seem to have a very learned grasp of the language. Thank you for sharing.
6Rhea. I can speak several languages. Southern, Texan, Cajun, and a bit of Spanish. Echo Alice, thanks for sharing. By the way (look away mama) I was 21 before somebody told me damn yankee was two words.
7As Micr says, it was under construction when I started at UT in 1996.
I guess it’s different parts of it over the years that have been under construction; I don’t think it’ll ever be “done”.
8Just for the record, as a Texan I find “all y’all” TOTALLY acceptable.
“Y’all” is like the third person in Spanish – it can refer to “you two people in this office I’m talking to”, “you 50 members of this office I’m talking to”, or “you 300 members of all the offices we have in the entire state of Texas”.
So, I think technically, by saying “all y’all” he wants to reinforce he’s not referring to just some portion of Trump supporters, but to every single Trump supporter who supports the wall.
LoL. I love this state.
9Thinks the rePUKEians will get anything positive done?? Well unless you are of the 1%ers. Look at Flint…..immigrants MIGHT cause problems so lets build an impossible wall!!!…but at Flint you have thousands in danger of dying soon and the fix is less then the price of the fictional wall, and what is being done???? Oh! Right! I forgot they are POOR so not important!!!
10Some part of I-35 has been under construction since at least 1986.
11Climate change?! Yes it is real but there has NEVER been winter in Texas; it’s a 365 days per year construction season here and it’s STILL been over 8 years as they work on 35!
12And the point may be that historically walls work so well, as in Great Wall of China, Atlantic Wall and Berlin Wall.
13@Micr- I believe Robert Frost had this, as well as lots of other things, correct when he wrote” Something there is that doesn’t love a wall”.Both the Great Wall of China and the Atlantic wall took much time and blood to breach.
14Eight years?! I-35 has been under eternal construction in and around Austin since at least 1973.
And what about the possessive plural form of y’all?
I remember when Carole Keeton-McClellan-Rylander-Strayhorn was mayor of Austin, and she introduced the form “yer-all’s” into polite company. “Have y’all got yer-all’s presentation ready?”
15Hey, this whole thing about the wall could work both ways–I have visions of people on our side trying to escape over to their side? Does any one remember the Berlin wall? I do, I saw it in the 1960’s and it was a frightening site–the stories of people being executed when they tried to escape, stayed with me–there is no way a wall will be built, although they have been taking bits and pieces of the border to appease the nut jobs who are blaming all their problems on the illegal immigrants–I am so sick of that sorry argument–These are frightening times–
