Trump Threatens to Adjourn Congress – During a Global Pandemic

April 15, 2020 By: El Jefe Category: Corruption, SCOTUS, Trump

Today during Trump’s WH briefing campaign rally he threatened to use a never used presidential power to adjourn Congress.  He threatened this so he could ram through dozens of recess appointments with weirdos and incompetents.  Recall that Congress started never recessing as a tool to keep Barack Obama from doing recess appointments.  Also recall that Obama went to the Supreme Court to get a ruling on that practice…he lost.  Anyone want to bet that the Roberts Court will rule the same against Trump?  I wouldn’t hold my breath since we now live in Trumpland.

American rule of law is dead.

I expect this is a distraction tool – it’s Trump’s tactic of using new scandals to move existing scandals off the front page.

He’ll probably do this – it’ll give people something to talk about other than his inaction and screwups regarding coronavirus

Covidiot* 45 will own this disaster once the bodies start piling up in rural districts where they can’t be hidden. Then he* will throw the preying menace Pence under the bus, followed by Jughead Kushner, followed by another. But this time Donnie* will run out of excuses and others to throw under the bus leaving Donnie* alone with this disaster on his* desk.

NV 02 (northern third of the state, mostly rural except Reno) was holding “red” with Mark Amodei as the last Republicon in the Congressional delegation. We lost 3 health care professionals this week and it has suddenly become personal even to the MAGAts.

Isn’t the provision for the President to adjourn Congress specifically for a time when/if the two Houses of Congress can’t agree on a time to adjourn? That has never happened, and it doesn’t seem likely now, unless Mitch keeps changing the date too quickly for Speaker Pelosi to keep up with him. We could get a Keystone Cops routine going, maybe?

I suspect it’s all a bluff, like most of the nonsense Trump spouts.

  4. Someone should remind him about the fate of Charles I.

  5. Doofus45 ranted against the Democrats in the Senate for not being around to confirm some nominees.. You know, the Democrats who aren’t in charge of the Senate and can’t do anything to gavel back into session or adjourn. Do you think 45 knows this, or not?

And hey, what ever happened with Senators Burr and Loeffler who are guilty of insider trading? And going further back, who paid off the massive debts of SCOTUS Boof?

  7. Does he seriously think that by such idiotic, even parnoid, behavior that this keeps his derrière safe? Frankly he is guilty of causing all COVID-19 deaths inasmuch as he knewdespite his insistence that he didn’t, back in January that this country was going to get hit and big!

  8. Since Trump isn’t smart enough to know anything that doesn’t require looking into a mirror, I’m wondering who’s ideas are all these. Who’s really running the Government?
Is it Putin? Hannity/Murdoch/Fox Hate? The ‘My Pillow Guy’? The Mercers/Koch Bros. or Moscow Mitch?
    My money’s on Moscow Mitch.

Since the Senate is holding up his appointments, why not dismiss them and keep the House open?

    Oh. Right.
