Trump Taketh … And Keepeth For Himself
House Republicans in safe seats recently contributed to the president’s reelection, making donations of tens of thousands of dollars at the request of his campaign.
At the request of Trump campaign officials, McCarthy and other senior Republicans in late May asked GOP lawmakers in safe seats to donate the maximum amount to Trump’s campaign from their committees and leadership PACs. Dozens followed through although the ask is unusual.
It is unclear why House Republicans asked their members to give to the Trump campaign amid their own financial struggle. Some took it as McCarthy trying to show he was a team player.
“Whenever the big man asks you to do it, you do it,” said one House Republican aide who was asked to contribute to the Trump campaign. “My question was: Do they really need the money? . . . Probably not. I took it as a show of force, a show of support and solidarity.”
Actually, since the beginning of May the Trump campaign has received almost $500,000 from congressional campaign committees and leadership PACs.
But when House Republicans asked the Trump campaign for financial support for their most endangered members, Trump told them they were on their own.
Senior House Republicans, meanwhile, have been privately panicked about the shortfall, which also extends to their campaign committee. The Democratic campaign committee has $94 million on hand while the GOP has $61 million — a $33 million cash advantage 100 days to the election.
Kevin McCarthy had been nagging and pleading with the Republican National Committee to write a check to the National Republican Congressional Committee. McCarthy even asked Jared Kushner for help.
But Kushner, who oversees such decisions and has a greater say than RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, has refused thus far, the officials say. While the Trump campaign and the RNC have brought in record amounts of money, some Trump officials see donating to the House as a wasteful investment as the GOP’s chances of reclaiming the majority sharply deteriorate. Their decline in fortunes can largely be attributed to Trump’s sagging support over his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and the sliding economy.
Thanks for all the money . . . suckers!
Thanks to Alfredo over at the Dairy Queen for the heads up.
Fools and their money are soon parted, and dear god, have you ever seen such a vipers’ nest of gosh darn fools as the Trumpians?
1It’s the Ferengi First Rule of Acquisition:
“Once you have their money, never give it back.”
2The Republican Mantra “I got mine, screw you.” even applies to their own.
3Are these jamokes even aware that almost all that cash simply goes to pad up a Trump property balance sheet?
4“Trump officials see donating to the House as a wasteful investment…”
So let me see if I have this right. By Trump & Kushner’s own logic, donations shouldn’t be wasted on Republican political campaigns unlikely to win in November?
Perhaps Trump & Kushner should look at ALL the recent presidential polls? Then again maybe they have, and the squirrels are putting campaign nut-money in undisclosed bank accounts? Plan ahead boys! Don’t bury it in Maxwell House cans out back where Michelle Obama’s garden once flourished. The ground might freeze by January.
5Well, Rick, just the other day we saw evidence of what we’re obviously structured payments to Trump’s businesses from the campaign. That’s illegal (in fact it’s the final act that put GOP bigwig Hastert in jail). So yes, they’re doing exactly what you suggest is happening, except that in Trump’s case he’s doing it openly and traceable. We really, REALLY, need to investigate and prosecute those illegal acts, or we lose our country even if we don’t lose the election. It was a mistake not to do it with Nixon, it was a worse mistake with GW Bush, and so naturally the problem, having been allowed -allowed by us – to fester, is even worse now. We need to stop that self-destructive behavior.
6Aren’t $$$ millions coming due soon $$$ on Trump’s Deutsche Bank loans?
7Grifters gotta grift.
Similar to theotherjean’s comment. Her’s is more nerdishly elegant.
Trump is a con man. Con men DO NOT consider the money as belonging to anyone else or for any other need then their own wants the moment they have access to it.
Of course his enterprise would never be authorized to give it back.
8@ Alan says: That’s it – Trump’s in his “syphon off as much money into our private bank accounts as we can before the business goes under” mode. Have all Republican Party organizations been “encouraged” to move to space leased from the Trump organization yet?
9So I see in two stories on the same day where McCarthy says “Whenever the big man asks you to do it, you do it” but when the RNC and Jared refuse to give him money for contested House seats he says “They’re not team players”. Alrighty then.

Hmmm I never before made the connection between fictional Ferengi and all too real nacilbupeR. “Mike Okuda designed the Ferengi insignia to present the idea of “dog eat dog”. It was colored green because of that color’s associations with greed, envy, and money.” Nuff said. Star Trek Ferengi = Republicans. See Kelly Loffler and Greg Giantfart.
11Crooks giving money to the head crook and expect something in return? Seriously, pretty naive crooks. Hadn’t they ever heard how the Trump organization has worked for decades?
12They’re getting just what they deserve, a loser that will lose and then they will lose. Repugnantican losers everywhere you look.
Sucks when “trickle down” doesn’t.
13I have noticed that sales people are often suckers for a sales pitch. Apparently con artists are suckers for a con.
14Excuse me if my tears are of the crocodilian persuasion.
15Once again as with the resignation of a certain Southern congressjerk who authored the “Contract With America”, Republicans prove most publicly that they enjoy eating their own in public!
16Now the Repug House knows how we feel.
