True Colors
Cyndi Lauper recorded a song a few years back called “True Colors”. It dealt with acceptance and self love. “True colors” is a phrase that describes what is beneath the visible surface of someone, or a group of someones.
Their true nature.
So today, as if on cue, the Republicans in the House, along with their newly-minted leader, MAGA Mike, revealed their true colors. $14.3 billion in military aid to Israel must…MUST be offset by $14.5 billion in cuts to IRS funding that was put in place by the Inflation Reduction Act.
That’s a new one.
Military Aid for a military ally has never been offset by cuts to any US government function.
But there it is. The first issue out of the chute in this post-McCarthy Era is to ensure that rich tax cheats can lie, cheat and steal from their fellow American taxpayers once more. Because if they can’t cheat, Israel will suffer.
It’s called a Poison Pill. You wanna help military allies? Here, swallow this first.

As far as any ‘offset’ money, how about we just terminate all support and money to Israel, and the rest of the Middle East?
Then do the only rational solution possible to the perennial, insoluble, problems of the so-called ‘Holy Land’:
6Nuke the entire area for a radius of ~300 miles of Jerusalem into a glazed over wasteland.
This would eliminate the world’s longest running, major, utterly unsolvable problem.
The sacrificial loss of some [most troublesome, some innocent], for the much greater good of billions.
Such tradeoffs have always been made before, this is little different, except in scale.
The GOP exists only to make laws for the benefit of their donors, the rest is a dog and pony show for the peons, much like the Roman games. I hope Dems and Independents band together to keep Biden in office by a wide margin.

Rick, to the GOP the IRS is there to fleece the poor and disempowered. The additional funding to the IRS would help them go after millionaires and billionaires, which is an outrage to their paid employees in Congress. Wasn’t it Leona Helmsley who said “taxes are for the little people”? And didn’t we recently have a president who said that not paying taxes meant he was smart?

Hey, maybe we should count our blessings that it wasn’t the post office, social security, public education, Medicare, or any other on a long list of MAGA obsessions. This was a “cheap” move by Maga Mike. He knows stuff like this can blow up in the Senate. That won’t do him any good if that is the way he is going to handle financial stuff. I’m betting that there is someone in the R section of House who is right now planning on using the “one vote” for ousting the Speaker. They’re just waiting for the time when it will really, really shatter Johnson when it happens.
13Figures. I hope this means that we don’t send aid it Israel, and LOUDLY blame Republicans for it, explaining in simple words that it’s because they’re trying to make the IRS less efficient, so tax refunds will take longer to get. But Democrats probably won’t do that.
Fortunately, BarbinDC is right, so at least the Dems will get something out of this.
