An old quote from Susan Collins has resurfaced to haunt the GOP as impeachment looms

Edit: The C-SPAN clip from January 27, 1999, shows Collins, a senator even back then, discussing the then-ongoing impeachment of President Bill Clinton.

“I am willing to travel the road wherever it leads, whether it’s to the conviction or the acquittal of the president,” Collins said. “But in order to do that, I need more evidence. I need witnesses and further evidence to guide me to the right destination, to get to the truth.”

  3. Merry Impeachmas!
    Treason’s Greetings!

I like this! Although it will all end up like Fitzmas and Muellermas, it will make a much more indelible mark on history.

Is there a festive, wearable big button with this logo available on it? I’d buy a couple in a nanosecond. Some entrepreneur type could clean up on a series of tzotzkys like this.

It would be a -hit- at some family gatherings too, literally in some cases, heheh…

  4. Wow, I”m often down on Speaker Pelosi, but she’s unlimbered a chaingun/cannon on ol’ Donnei in her opening remarks.
She’s flying a custom A-10 Warthog and ripping that MF’ing SOBOTUS up one corpulent side and down the other.

Checked Etsy’s website. They didn’t have this particular ornament/pin but found several items of a similar theme.

  6. megasoid,
    Good quote from Susan Collins.

Unfortunately, to quote from A Few Good Men, Republicans, “you can’t handle the truth.” They sure can accommodate the lies though.

  7. Sandridge@5, one thing we have learned about Speaker Pelosi: never underestimate her. The lady can count votes and she knows how to play the long game. Back when I was a lad, some moron placed her car behind the NAMBLA vehicle at a Pride Parade. Some pols would have tripped all over themselves and dug huge holes with their tongues. Pelosi stayed ahead of and on the right side of history. When the rage bigots attacked, she didn’t take their bait. Dignity under fire and being right never grows old.

We know many of her peccadillos and how frustrating she can be at times. All that. But she is not a woman we’d bet against.

    8
  8. @Jane – Pelosi is called the Mom of the House for a reason. Those who underestimate her usually pay the price.

    9
  9. austinhatlady @6, I’ll look around, somebody’s bound to see an opportunity.

Jane & PKM @8, yep, Pelosi’s one badazz chitkicker.
    .

IMO, watching a lot of these proceedings, one standout Dem Rep has been Rep Neguse of CO [oddly, since I have this misconception that CO was 100% Anglo for some reason ;] ].
Rep Neguse is going to be appointed a cabinet secretary or something in the next [Warren?] administration.

Nadler’s doing well skeet shooting up the phony Rethug clay pigeons too, almost every interim chance he gets. About time we had some sharp ‘rapid response’ tactics instead of trying to be ‘Mr Niceguys’ and getting doormatted [are you paying attention Chucky Schumer?].

    10
  10. Tic toc, I’m eagerly awaiting –LOOUUIEE Gohmert’s– two minute lunacy… [yeehaa, that’s when I get muhsef a deep snort of rum, heh]

  11. A big difference between the house majority the D’s have won now versus the majorities during at the start of the Clinton and Obama administrations is that todays d’s are ( to quote the Sainted Molly) “dancin with them that brought them”
At the start of the Clinton and Obama era no sooner had D’s gotten elected in “swing” districts or even thuglican ones they went wishy washy and dumped their D supporters in a futile and failed attempt to appease thuglicans.
As such those who had voted for them the first time decided that since the reps wouldn’t stand up for their constituency but would rather sell out in an attempt to appease thuglicans.
Remember during second campaign, which the majority lost, they were touted as being the “safe” choices dictated by “arithmetic”.
    So much for arithmetic

  12. Colorado 100% Anglo? Really??

I know that you’re probably not familiar with our state and local politicians, but there have also been a few POC in national office.

A few names: Pena. Webb. Hancock.
    Salazar.

And of course, Ben Nighthorse Campbell. Though after he was elected to the US Senate, and switched his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican, I have always called him Ben Horse’sAss Campbell.

Also, though she’s a political commentator, not a politician, MSNBC’s Joy Reid grew up here.

Anglo, my pasty white tuchis! (Yeah, I’m a Person of Pallor. But it doesn’t seem to matter as much here as in lots of other places.)

June 4, 2014, Trump tweeted: “Are you allowed to impeach a president for gross incompetence?”

It turns out, the answer is yes.

    15
  15. Slipstream, I think we should be able to impeach him for revealing that it takes 10 to 15 times to flush the toilet.

  16. Have been uncommonly busy. Just read this latest EJ entry. Since I do not imbibe, I have drowned myself in Christmas carols! Hey, wait! Just been informed that there is a diet version of egg nog now on the market! Merry Christmas, y’all. And ay the New Year bring us a suddenly backboned Senate!
