This Weekend’s Word Salad

December 22, 2019 By: El Jefe Category: Word Salad

“I never understood wind.  I know windmills very much, I have studied it better than anybody. I know it is very expensive. They are made in China and Germany mostly, very few made here, almost none, but they are manufactured, tremendous — if you are into this — tremendous fumes and gases are spewing into the atmosphere. You know we have a world, right?”

“So the world is tiny compared to the universe. So tremendous, tremendous amount of fumes and everything. You talk about the carbon footprint, fumes are spewing into the air, right spewing, whether it is China or Germany, is going into the air.”

“A windmill will kill many bald eagles.”  After a certain number, they make you turn the windmill off, that is true. By the way, they make you turn it off. And yet, if you killed one, they put you in jail. That is OK. But why is it OK for windmills to destroy the bird population?”

Donald J. Trump, December 21, 2019, Speaking to Turning Point USA conference in West Palm Beach, Florida

Yet more proof that Donald Trump knows nothing about anything. Not that not knowing anything has ever made him stop talking.

  2. That’s not a “word salad”, it’s an ultra-pureed word juice made from locoweed, coca leaves, and magic ‘shrooms.

How can autistic 15/16yo Greta Thunberg, not even in university yet [iirc], give great, well-spoken, logical and profound speeches; and a 72y/o “stable genius”, supposedly with a grad degree[?], consistently dribble out mindless sheer gibberish?

  4. Every GOP congressman, member of Trump’s administration, and Trump voter should be forced to write this 50 times, then try to explain or justify it.

    4
  5. Wha????? What on this tiny world is he talking about? What is his point here? I’ve heard he had some kind of jerky seizure-like thing just before he delivered this. I have not verified, but I wonder if he had some kind of neurological event before he started in on windmills, tiny world and fumes.

On the other hand, I’m wishing the Leader of the Free World a Merry Christmas…Angela Merkel seems like a nice person.

  12. Merry Christmas, Ms. Merkel! Lol
I think the Orange menace has Tourette’s and a host of other, undiagnosed diseases. I would like to see a scan of his brain, please.

  13. The Surly Professor says:

treehugger@5: for a “neurological event”, the patient must have the basic hardware to support one. Viz, at least two neurons and a synapse running between them. We’ll have to look for a different explanation. So what is the equivalent physiology for slime mold?

  14. Jane & PKM says:

IQ4.5 speaking in tongues. It’s an allegory for his fear of having his scalp revealed in the wind. He’s the bald eagle with the rare condition necessitating a combover that begins at the nape of his neck. Or, the ***king moron is having impeachment sweats with shades of guillotine.

Compare that nonsense to President Obama speaking here.

  16. He’s studied windmills better than anybody? By the jumpin’ Jesus.

I wonder if anybody has kept track of all the things he’s claimed to understand or to have studied better than anybody. If not, someone needs to start.

  17. The Surly Professor says:

Folks, we should look at this as a Christmas gift of entertainment. Not from Trump, but the contortions his supporters and WH staff will go through to “explain” why all that weird BS is actually brilliant. E.g., the whirling blades of wind farms actually chop up oxygen molecules (O2), thereby creating atomic oxygen (O1) that combines with other atmospheric elements to create ozone, hydrogen sulfide, and smelly fumes. Many scientists (from beautiful clean coal companies) have warned about this, but libtards love their “non-polluting” power sources so much they are willing to murder unborn children by this poisoning.

Darn, maybe I should go to work for the White House. [Don’t worry, I still have a small smidgen of ethics and self-respect].

Sandridge, I love your assessment. Trump appreciates the air time and loves the sound of his own voice.

As for the neurological test, his brain is a black hole and has sucked several machines already.

“You know we have a world, right?” is my quote of the day. But who told him?

  24. This guy needs a tab of super-eternal mouth glue in the form of a stick of gum. Its true that he indicts himself whenever he opens his gob but thats no real help for the suffering Americans et al. that get anything out of his mouth via the prevailing wind.

    24
  25. Harry Eagar says:

treehugger, he is referring to the chemicals involved in manufacturing solar panels — which he had conflated with windmills — because some of them are extremely powerful greenhouse gases.

And to the ‘take’ permits for endangered species that are required as part of the permits for operating a windfarm.
I don’t know of any take permits for bald eagles but there are permits for really rare critters like the Hawaiian hoary bat.

    25
  26. Will one of the Texans here confirm this?
I heard, since Trump came out with this crazy, that Texas is producing more wind-related power, these days, than oil.
    Is that correct?

If so, and if Trump follows this spiel with going after a major source of employment and revenue, might he lose Texas in November?

    26
  27. The Surly Professor says:

twocrows@26: I’ve read that Texas is generating more power from wind than any other state, but cannot come up with the source right now. Texas oil generally gets used all over the US, so it could be that more power in Texas is generated by wind than oil.

As for the political implications: if anything, it’d be used by some even *more* nutty right wing fanatic to primary an existing Republican. E.g., “While supposedly representing us, Goofus has destroyed good Texas jobs and the Holy Oil Industry, by helping the Godless liberals build wind turbines.”

And before anyone thinks that you can’t get more insane than Gohmert, trust me: east Texas is full of alleged people who honestly believe he doesn’t go far enough.

    27
  28. Linda Phipps @21/22, Thanks, steal away, tRump’s ‘word juice’ coming from nearly anyone else would get them restrained and ‘examined. But Daft Donnei’s cult members just bask in his insanity.
    .

twocrows @26, No, Texas’ total wind power output is nowhere near that of oil [or gas and coal], measured in absolute BTUs or Watts.
However, Texas wind power generation is by far the greatest of all US states, and ranks 5th as a global ‘country’.
Wind generates ~20% of Texas’ electricity [which is semi-isolated from the US power grid]. But in absolute energy terms it’s just a small fraction of the energy potential of oil [and gas] production.

There has been a lot of overly-optomistic [imo] speculation that tRump could actually lose Texas. From my viewpoint that’s a ludicrous ASSumption. There’s no way in hell a Democrat can win the Texas Prez vote.
One major assumption always trotted out is how the Texas Hispanic [or youth, et al] voters are overwhelmingly Democratic voters, this is magical-thinking bullshit.
The Rethugs have been capturing an increasing percentage of those demographics in each election cycle since ~2000. The Rethugs run very effective ‘under-the-radar’ campaigns [a la Karl Rove]. Could the Democrats overcome this?
Maybe, by running much smarter tactics and strategies than before, but the odds of that seem slim.
Besides, there is all the other Rethug voting chicanery going on too.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_power_in_Texas

“Wind power in Texas consists of many wind farms with a total installed nameplate capacity of 25,629 MW[1][2] from over 40 different projects. If Texas were a country, it would rank fifth in the world:[1] The installed wind capacity in Texas exceeds installed wind capacity in all countries but China, the United States, Germany and India. Texas produces the most wind power of any U.S. state.[1][3] According to ERCOT (Energy Reliability Council of Texas), wind power accounted for at least 15.7% of the electricity generated in Texas during 2017, as wind was 17.4% of electricity generated in ERCOT, which manages 90% of Texas’s power.[4][5] ERCOT set a new wind output record of nearly 19.7 GW at 7:19 pm Central Standard Time on Monday, January 21, 2019.[6]”
