They’re Going to Follow the “Biden Rule”, Right? Right?

June 27, 2018 By: El Jefe Category: 2018 Election, SCOTUS

Anthony Kennedy, the mostly right wing leaning swing vote on SCOTUS announced this morning that he’s retiring.  Trump has already announced that he’s going to nominate a judge candidate from his list of white radical anarchists.  I’m SURE that Mitch McConnell is going to jump in, invoke the “Biden Rule”, and hold up hearings for a new nominee until after the mid-term elections, right?  I mean, since he did the same thing to Obama’s nominee for over a year, right?  After all, Joe Biden suggested that in 1992 for those mid-terms, even though no one was nominated and no candidates were considered…

I mean, after all, McConnell’s going to be consistent, right?  Right?

There is a place for anger, and THIS is it.

Be social and share!

  1. Why should any of us be surprised that Kennedy, who subverted the will of the people in his ruling on Bush v Gore, would now, looking at the potential Blue Wave coming in November, do it again?

This is the worst possible timing.
Has anybody checked to see if all of Kennedy’s grandchildren are accounted for? No one missing for a day or two?

  3. Charles R Phillips says:

Forget Kennedy. Not only was he an unreliable swing vote, he’s gone more radical right over the last few years. It’s a wash.

In fact, if trump nominates someone bad enough, this could work for us.

  4. This is exactly where those who feel that supporting thuglicrats like manchin etc. is ok since they have a d after their name no matter how bad they vote or how much they support thuglicans.
The D’s have to filibuster every court appointee they can for at least 2 more years and if they get a 1 vote majority in the senate they cannot afford quislings like manchen, or Heidi from the north – can’t spell last name) to stab the d’s in the back by giving bi=partisan cover and support for whatever racist ideologue demented donnie nominates.

  6. Jane & PKM says:

Message to Donnie and Mitch: Democrats will approve your nomination, if and only if his name is Merrick Garland, or any other name submitted by President Barack Obama.

😀 Check your sixes, boys. That nibbling sensation you feel is Lady Karma chomping on your ample and scrawny posteriors, respectively. No respect intended, just differentiating between you two losers’ sorry butts, respectively.

e platypus onion, good to “see” you our friend! Please send a message to your gal Ivana Kutyurnutsov, aka Joni Ernst. If reproductive rights for women and the men & families who love them are eliminated, watch out for 2018, we could counter with your doing away with abortion by eliminating the need for abortion by measures to make spaying and neutering of snacilbupeR vogue.

k, while ITA with you about Manchin & Heitkamp, am sort of conflicted to the tune of maybe better them than what else may come out of their states. Guess that comes under the “be careful of what we wish for,” until we have a secure Democratic, House, Senate and Presidency. But it certainly wouldn’t hurt for their colleagues to remind them, daily.

  7. Once up on a time North Dakota was a progressive state with Democratic legislature and governors. Then the f*cking Kochs intervened. Heidi Heitkamp walks a daily tightrope to hold on to her seat. If she loses it will be worse, I guarantee it.

I grew up in South Dakota. That’s how I know. I moved out to a blue state, Minnesota, with functional government in 2006.

Here’s the rule we need. A president who is under investigation should not be able to appoint judges because they might in the future have to hear his case.

    9
  10. Charles, Brett Kavanaugh? Sseriously? Giggle, snort!!!

  11. Defending the indefensible for fear that alternatives might be worse has contributed to the situation we are in.
That way gives away power to those who are willing to be as destructive as possible while sabataugeing those that wish to be constructive and contribute.
Support thuglicrats like manchin ( who taught such great values to his criminal daughter) and one drives off those who are willing to work for something better.
This is how D’s in power have historically disappointed and betrayed those that support them.
Remember “card Check” for unions? Couldn’t do that since it was opposed by the reactionary right funders of the d’s so we let the unions down and now they vote for demented donnie.
How about single payer health insurance the right wing who had bought the corporate d’s said no so now obamacare is slowly disappearing.
Go down the list on guns, social welfare, corporate liability and the consistent pattern of the d’s running scared of something worse if they actually stood up for their constituents has ended up in the disillusionment and desertion of those constituents.
Classic example is NJ where new D gov wants to raise taxes on 1% but D legislative leaders are working with christy to stop that.
No wonder people don’t come out and vote for d’s if they are constantly being sold out and betrayed by the d’s because of fear that something bad may occur if they actually show some spine.

Manchin, Heitkamp and Donnelly are the reasons why I don’t give to the Democratic Party, but to individual candidates. They don’t need to cowtow to Dump, they have already proven themselves electable on the Democratic ticket. They need to grow a spine and tell their constituents the truth about Dump and his minions.

  13. Charles R Phillips says:

Maybe the prospect of an alt-right judiciary destroying the rights we and our parents and grandparents have fought for will unite the party.

If not, time to re-think the party altogether.

Here’s an extreme view of what might result if dems don’t win in November: https://thinkprogress.org/far-right-voices-are-frothing-about-a-looming-civil-war-02208b834538/

To tell the truth, the people on the right are nucking futs, an it is time they were wipe out financially an politically.

  15. AlanInAustin ... says:

Schumer has it all wrong. Standing there politely and complaining will gain nothing. He needs to stand up – along with other Democrats – and repeatedly say in a VERY LOUD VOICE:

“I WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT LET THE GOP SENATE TO TURN RESPECTED SENATOR MCCONNELL INTO AN OUTRIGHT DISGRACE AND PUBLICLY BRAND HIM A LIAR BY CONSIDERING THE NOMINATION BEFORE THE ELECTION. I WILL NOT PARTICIPATE IN THIS DISGRACEFUL BEHAVIOR AND WILL DO MY BEST HERE DAY AFTER DAY TO PROTECT THE SPEAKER’S NAME IN THIS REGARD.”

There’ll be nothing to attack, no soundbite to crop out, and the point will be made.

Now watch. Nobody will do it.

Things that will disappear if Brett Kavanagh gains Supreme Court status

    1. A woman’s right to an abortion.
    2. Effective unions and union activity.
    3. Free speech.
    4. The CFPB, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
    5. Special Counsel investigations.
    6. Fair and free elections.
    7. The 4th Amendment.

    16
  17. Jane & PKM says:

Charles R Phillips, to your list I would add the disappearance of the 14th Amendment, if any of the 9 or so candidates in the wind to be nominated by Donnie are elevated to SCOTUS.

For all the railing the right wing nut jobs do against an imaginary threat of Sharia Law, they certainly do their best to imitate it.

    17
  18. Charles R Phillips says:

Jane & PKM, yeah, the 14th and a much amended 1st amendment to allow christianity to call the shots politically. Plus a revokation of the 15th, 16th, 17th, and 19th. We could go on forever.

The point is, unless a huge blue wave results in massive majorities in house and senate, Trump will destroy us.
