They’re Calling It Texodus

August 05, 2019 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Well, pretty late last night, Texas Congressman Kenny Marchant snuck out his backdoor, stood on the porch drinking some iced tea and, “you can’t fire me ‘cuz I quit.”

This is the fourth Texas Republican Congressman to throw in the towel in a couple of weeks. After always winning his seat by double digits, he only carried it by three last year.

Kenny was a high school graduate and completed studies at the Southern Nazarene Theological Seminary in Oklahoma, where books are pretty cheap because there’s only one.  He was one of the founding members of the Tea Party.

So, it looks like Dallas is gonna go totally blue.  I’m ready to fight for it.

Y’all, one of my girlfriends and favorite lunch dates, Kim Olson, is running against Marchant. See her movie and drop $5 in her flash funding.

  1. Now, what is he going to tell the kiddies when they ask, “Granpa, what did you do when you were a Congressman?”

    I’m betting “crickets”.

  2. Grandma Ada says:

Bless his heart! I hope even more of his GOP congressmen will read the same tea-party leaves and realize the party is Over!

  3. Linda Phipps says:

Not so fast, just because these worthless critters are moving on to either “spend time with their families” or some lucrative shady job, that doesn’t mean the democratic candidate will carry. The local GOP will find a nominee far more conservative, racist, bigoted and brainless. Also a huuuuge Jesus lover.

I have no insight into Rethugs, much less Texas Rethugs; but, I can’t help wondering if they have some private polling that shows such bad news it is causing all these retirements.

  5. Sandridge says:

The Texas election races, and elsewhere, that really really count in 2020 are the STATE LEGISLATURE ones; and beating Sen Cornyn. period

US House Rep seats are nice, but we have a fairly secure majority there and are likely to keep and expand it.
The 2020 state lege races will determine how state and local boundaries are drawn in REDISTRICTING for most political offices nationwide.
This is the most critical of ALL political issues. NOTHING ELSE matters as much. Everything flows from control of the redistricting process. It sucks, fair or not, but that is how it is, damn it! Whether Texas can be changed is tough, but many other states could be tipped.

Let’s not fuck this one up like Obama and the Democrats did in 2010.
Y’all [most anyway] should see pretty clearly by now how that worked out.
Yes, Republickan redistricting and gerrymandering –alone– facilitated everything that followed the ‘slaughter of 2010’ [sure, there are other factors, but none as key]. Trump, SCOTUS, the rest, where we are now…

  6. Wow, that is a video worth watching. Well done Kim!

    6
  7. Dayum, after watching that – I want her for President. Or maybe vice to Warren, at least.

    7
  8. Texas is still living with Tom Delay’s redistricting.

What could Obama have done to have any influence in 2010 to make any difference in Texas?

I look at the mostly bright red map of the USA and see most states are controlled by Republicans.

The Democrats will just need to figure out how to get their voters to the polls.

Ms. Olson is a brilliant start. She will encourage Democratic voters to also vote in state races.

  9. Junker Rebecca says:

Ladies! Look at the video. Kim Olsen is awesome. Let’s go forward with Congress like Kim.

  10. Jane & PKM says:

Crone@8, what we’d suggest is more candidates exactly like Ms. Kim Olson to excite voters. We sent her a little because she is exactly what’s needed not only to “get out” the Democratic base, but also interest the larger pool of potential voters who for various reasons have been disengaged from the process.

Tom Perez, are you listening, buddy? All those good things we want that Republicons deny us are possible. Education, health care, gun safety … everything the majority of Americans support is ours. Forget about Republicons and Republicon ‘leaners.’ Excite the untapped pool among those who have not participated because they both rightly and wrongly feel left out of the process or that government is broken.

  11. Outstanding! She’s got my vote!

    11
  12. Lunargent says:

    WOW!!
    I’d sure vote for her.
She can walk, chew gum, and read a TelePrompTer on a moving dolly all at once. That alone makes her more qualified than half the Congress we already have, never mind Trump.

    And Sandridge, you’re right.
Which is why you need to pay attention to what Crone says.
If you run compelling candidates for the Congressional seats, the people turning out to vote for them will probably also vote for Democrats on the state ballot.

    Go, Kim!

  13. The rats keep running for the exits leaving theRepublican Party in shambles. And it is good in our eyes.

  14. Brad in Dallas says:

I’m in Marchant’s district, and I’m not convinced he’s a living human being. Eight terms in the US House as my Congresscritter, and I never once heard the sound of his voice, even a recording, nor saw him in the flesh. I think he was the Weekend at Bernie’s Congressman, a dead body posed in action shots to look like he was speaking. Kim Olson or Jan McDowell or a cedar stump would all be acceptable replacements, and I’ll put the yard sign out for whoever the Dem candidate is, even though it’ll prompt retaliation from six of my Fox loving neighbors.

    14
  15. Robin Frazier says:

So glad he is out. That is my old Denomination. I know first hand how backward they are. We were one of the first targets of the Pentecostals and the crap incubated right here at Gulf Coast Bible College. It spread to the Baptists then some. Now it is out of control. To think I sung for Jesus in OK City in front of thousands of them. OK city Nazarene 1st Church was a mega church in the 70s. It was like being on stage in Jones Hall. I am heathen now.

  16. AK Lynne says:

Can’t vote for her, but I just sent money. Glad to help Texas turn blue.

    16
  17. Like AK Lynne, I can’t vote for Ms. Olsen (because I’m in NY) but I gave money.
