The War of Words

January 05, 2019 By: El Jefe Category: Dammit!, Impeachment, Trump

One of our readers suggested this piece in the Washington Post yesterday, and it’s a good one. Entitled What’s so wrong with motherf—er?, writer Molly Roberts points out the silliness of the Republicans’ outrage over freshman member of Congress Rashida Tlaib’s use of the word during remarks at a private celebration the evening of her swearing in.  I don’t know if Tlaib is involved, but a movement started very early on in Trump’s term called ITMFA, or Impeach the MotherF—er Already, has nationally grown in strength as he has assaulted everything that is decent about our country.  The organization’s logo is this, and seen regularly at gatherings of progressives and never-Trumpers:

When the video of Tlaib surfaced yesterday, the rightwing noise machine went into Full Snowflake, suddenly regaining its sense of hearing after years of total deafness to Trump’s continuous stream of childish insults and profanity.  Not only were they shocked, shocked, I tell you over the notion of even mentioning the word impeachment, they were really shocked that Tlaib would use the word mother—er to describe him.  Many Americans, including me, regularly use this descriptor for Trump.

When I heard serial liar Kevin McCarthy feigning insult over the incident yesterday, I actually burst out laughing.  Being one of the leading Invertebrates in Congress who have dismissed concerns over Trump’s actual conduct, it’s hilarious that now he’s worried about decorum.  Here’s my position of this issue – First, anyone who still supports His Orangeness has forfeited any right to be insulted by profanity and lack of decorum for life. Second, the Dems need to stop worrying about motivating his base of angry, old white people.  They can’t get any more angry since they are teeth gnashing, drooling, pissed off 24/7 fed a red meat diet of Fox Noise bullshit in a continuous stream.  Third, I agree with Roberts that suburban middle of the roaders are not going to base their votes on some bad word uttered by a freshman Dem at a private event, but on Trump’s actual record of ripping children from their parents and caging them in “tender age” detention facilities.  It insults the intelligence of those suburbanites for Dems to be so fearful of backlash over an insult that doesn’t even approach Trump’s egregious and illegal behavior.

Lastly,  I also agree with this:

“‘Motherf—er,’ in short, is about civility. ‘Shithole countries’ is about character. Democrats who conflate the two weaken themselves. They minimize the abuses of the Trump administration, and they invite the president to go on committing them without expecting anything more than an anemic reprimand. Democrats, he understands, won’t ever really fight back.”

It’s long past time to start fighting back, Dems.  The real snowflakes are on the OTHER side.

  1. Words are only words. Symbols made by humans to represent concept or the concrete, and/ or to convey information. Made by humans. That’s us.

So… when anyone feigns outrage or shock, over a word? My advice would be to crawl back into your time machine, and set the dial for the 19th century. It’s where you belong, in the land of smelling salts and fainting couches. And yes… I suppose that includes yo mama.

I almost lost a “friend” on Facebook over this issue. She, actually a liberal, and I, actually a left wing nutball, disagreed particularly when I posted “get over it”. I do some of my best thinking at bedtime, so my bout of insomnia led me to “think” three times during the night: i still don’t put any importance in Tlaib’s comment, but really, if we are incensed over Trump “getting away” with his awful pronouncements, then we need to be maybe a skosh bothered about her comment. Not much tho as she made that comment in a private party (a pox on the leaker) whereas Trump openly calls out “shithole” and “pussy”. Imagine what he says in private.

  3. Spot on, el jefe.
I keep a whole glossary of invective and expletive terms, some of which can stir up too much aggravation in certain circles. Rather than use one that can create a distraction from an important topic, I will refer to DJT as, for example, a scum-sucking maggot.

  4. Agreed, El Jefe. Any president of any party whose verbosity includes the private parts of women and what he can do with them definitely trumps (no pun here at all) what someone said at a private gathering. Cannot and most likely will not get over the hypocrasy of any RWNJ. Their squealing reminds me so much of the scene in Wizard of Oz where the wicked witch melts mewling into a puddle.

  5. One time at a place where I worked the warehouse manager said he didn’t want to hear me cussing. Then he asked what my problem was.
I replied, “It’s my birthday and I’m so fornicating happy I could just defecate!”
Took him a while to figure out what I said.

  6. The outrage by those wonderful “Christian” over words and dancing are just too hilarious. We have the vilest male occupying our WH along with his nude (and who really knows what else) model immigrant wife. THEY are outraged? Now? Just what we say around here — they are CINOs – Christian in Name Only. Such hypocrites. They accuse Democrats and Progressives of being “snowflakes?” They are melting like the Wicked Witch.

  7. Was a private party so excuse her choice of words, But out in the world there are lots of people who don’t swear much. you don’t find many public speakers who are unable to find words to make a point with out swearing.

I think the D’s should recall the great quote attributed to either Harry Truman or to Teddy Roosevelt:

“If you’ve got them by the balls, their hearts and minds will follow.

My father always told us, use of such language was evidence of a limited vocabulary. While my vocabulary is pretty good, I do resort to the F bomb regularly, just not in professional settings. I refrain from attaching ‘mother’, or feminine gender related slurs. However, given the fact that she is a freshman, excited, and was in a private gathering of her supporters, I give her a pass. And I WISH I could have danced on the rooftops of Boston like AOC when I was at Northeastern, just down the road from BU.

I think most of us want to see Mueller wrap things up with a big bow, because we know that even with evidence, getting the GOP congresscritters to do the right thing regarding impeachment is a big lift. The Speaker can count, she knows this. The Day of reckoning is coming in the first half of the year, Mueller just got his request for extension (6 mo max) granted. I’m more than ready to hear the findings.

  10. Remember that time VP Cheney called Sen. Leahy a motherf*-ker on the floor of the Senate. Leahy confirmed the incident. I would argue that’s a more egregious breach of decorum than what we have here. I vividly remember the Republican outrage over that – oh wait!

    10
  11. Deb, actually Cheney told Senator Leahy to go f*** himself. I don’t know if that’s better or worse, but it’s probably an equal breach of Senate decorum and equally deserving of expulsion from the chamber.

    11
  12. fenway your father is completely wrong about that. Look through history and most people with wide vocabularies (like many modern writers) also use what many mistakenly call swearing…which it is definitely not, nor is it cursing. But so many use incorrect shorthand and then everyone does it.

  14. The presstitutes are still trying to magic balance fairy the crap out of this.

Take the Washington Post for example. This reporter is getting roasted in the comments (caution for deserved coarse language in the replies).

I know this is radical, but I think it's possible to be offended by Trump's profanities AND by Tlaib's profanities. That's my super hot take for the day.— Joe Heim (@JoeHeim) January 4, 2019

Or ABC (same here with the replies):

  15. NicaBrian says:

The attacks are unrelenting and effective. Outrage over everything, no matter how slight, magnified and broadcast repeatedly to sink into the drooling bozos. When Dems do anything perceived as an attack the machine strikes again, now saying that liberals are supposed to be tolerant and nice. Dems then apologize.
Well, that was then and this is now. (I prefer That was Zen, this is Tao). Getting some young fire eating libs who couldn’t care less about sensitive bullies are going to kick some butt.

PS- Deb, I think Dick Cheney’s exact words, much celebrated by Republicans, was “F*** You.” Yet heaven forbid a woman should cuss in a bar. A BAR!

    15
  16. NicaBrian says:

Well, that’s what happens when I try to use what’s left of my memory. Deb was right. I once wrote the same thing to my sister. She wrote back “I just did; it was wonderful!”

I tweeted every link/twitter I could find. I expect them to block me soon.

Here’s Trump using cun*t in public… also fu@k, motherfu@ckers, bit@h, a$$, bull$hit, $hit, pu$$y, and saying he has “sex” in common with daughter Ivanka. Spare me your conservative “civility.” Hypocrites all. You worship this. You are complicit. pic.twitter.com/0tJBNnOdYb

Joe Manchin is the worst. Went on Fox to chastise fellow Dem Rashida Tlaib for cursing. Called it “horrible,” “disgusting” and “deplorable” then apologized to America. WTF? He’s never condemned Trump so forcefully. Manchin also said “shit” 3x in a paragraph to a reporter in 2017. pic.twitter.com/jcfbKZPq4B

Here’s a compilation of #Trump using worse language than the woman of whom he said, “I thought her comments were disgraceful.. …she dishonored herself, and I think she dishonored her family.” You, President Motherfucker, dishonor your country. #MAGA

Trump said “fuck” at least three times when he met with Congressional leaders about his imaginary racist wall yesterday. So spare me any of this fake hysteria over Rep Tlaib. Coming from the same people who support a dude who brags about assaulting women and is a lifelong racist.

There — I’ve restored civility to public life. Can we get back to the important shit now?
