The Base

Political Wire does some math.

The new Fox News poll shows 41% of registered voters are against impeaching President Trump. Of those, 57% say no new evidence could cause them to change their minds.

That would put Trump’s true base at around 23% of registered voters.

So, about one in every four.  I will not look at my weekly bridge game the same ever again.

  1. Another example of how thuglican (privately held companies by thuglican funders-for real) owned voting machine companies have found new ways to illegally magnify that 23% into a majority by ensuring that the voting machines are all in on the “fix”
Georgia is also pursueing a similar path where a paper ballot is supplied for voter to check BUT the choices counted are printed in a bar code on the ballot? Learned to read cursivite and block letters in school but missed the class that would enable me to read a bar code and check for mistakes. https://www.salon.com/2019/03/28/new-hybrid-voting-system-can-change-paper-ballot-after-its-been-cast_partner/

You found the voter fraud! 23% of registered voters obviously too st00pid to have registered to vote. Purge those frauds, Donnie.

  3. A thought experiment.
It has been suggested that dememnted donnie is considering vetoing all funding bills and shutting down government unless the D’s rescind and disavow impeachment proceedings. ( same type of extortion he used on the Ukraine)
    Here is the experiment.
How many people think that at least 55 House thuglicans would join the d’s in a Veto override to reopen the government and also get at least 20 thuglican senator to do the same?
Or would they continence this extortion by offering the government, and its people, up as a sacrifice on the alter of their tin gods flaming ego?
Winder if it has been suggested that if he shuts down the government for peiod around election day that would eliminate any voting and give him, and his puppet senators an extra term in office with no input from the voters?
    Inane -yes.
    Conspiciously illegal -yes.
But when has sanity and reason stopped them?

  5. That 23% is the ding-dong in the first quarter of a bell shaped curve.

  6. 23% is the number and has been through several GOP administrations.

  8. Government shut downs hurt more than just Washington D.C. That was pretty obvious with the 30 day plus shutdown Trump was so proud to initiate. One more based on impeachment proceedings and someone from the R’s, maybe not Moscow Mitch, will round up a cadre, trickle down PA Avenue to the White House and tell Dolt 45 that he absolutely, but absolutely must immediately resign or face the the idea of being “locked” in the White House, prevented from playing golf wherever he wants whenever he wants, etc. this is kind of like when daddy takes the car keys away from the teenager in the family.

Frankly, such a shutdown will bring screaming crowds to the fence of 1600 PA Avenue and they will not be cheering him!

And no one will believe him when he chants that this is a Democratic hoax etc. etc. etc.

  9. I agree with those who feel that a shutdown by the president as an extortion tactic on ending impeachment should cause outrage but would at least 55 thuglicans in the House ( # needed for 2/3 override of veto plus all d’s) and at least 20 Thuglican senators ( again needed to reach 67 votes for override) vote to publicly repudiate demented donnie?
I am not asking about possible impeachment vote but only on budget veto override.
Or will mitch play games in budget negoitations so that veto would be unnecessary because it will just become another casulty in his graveyard of democracy?
With faux providing media cover and the diefication of demented donnie from those uneducated, whom he has stated he loves – they are easier to scam, the christianists claiming it is the magic man in the sky’s will and a complicit judicial system of hacks and ideologues will they get away with it?

  10. IIRC, about 26% of the electorate thought, after Nixon had resigned, that Nixon had been unfairly railroaded out of office.

    Apparently not much has changed.
