Texas, I Love Yew

August 02, 2019 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Well, somebody left the barn door open in Texas.

Two Texas Republican Congressvarmints have resigned in the past week.  Pete Olson, my own personal congressional bag of hammers, resigned this week.  Yesterday, Will Hurd, the only African American Republican in congress, called it quits.

Here’s why this is a big deal.  Both of these guys are in swing districts.  In 2018, Olson’s usual double digit margin of victory was slashed to less than 5 points by an outstanding candidate named Sri Preston Kulkarni.  Hurd won by less than a point to another Democratic up and comer Gina Ortiz Jones.

To make matters worse for the GOP

House Republicans say there may be ranking members pondering departures ahead. And Texas Reps. Kenny Marchant (R-Texas) and Michael McCaul (R-Texas), like Hurd, won close races in 2018.

And then there’s the Texas state legislature, which is particularly important this year because redistricting is on the agenda.

In my county alone (which many of you supported with donations, turning districts from solid red to flip districts) two state legislators are facing giving up their seats.  Yesterday, Republican Texas House member John Zerwas announced his unexpected retirement from what appeared to be a safe seat.  His buddy in an adjacent district, Rick Miller, is expected to announce his retirement loudly next week.  I say loudly because he’s already told everybody he has seen because Ole Rick needs gobs and gobs of sympathy.

Sri Kulkarni was on his last vacation before he begins 18 months of hard campaigning. He tweeted.

Yeah, but we may send him to do it again until he gets Mitch McConnell out.  🙂

Have a great weekend.  I know I will.

Be social and share!

  1. First: Hey, this is grandkid’s day… get outta here…

Second: count me in for some, albeit small, support again when the time comes to get some more blue in your county. And thank you again for the best place to visit on the net.

PS Remember, you told me you try to keep Fridays for your grandson so I’m just being a wiseass but what do expect from a damn yankee (again — thats 2 words) LOL

What a hoot! And I, personally, will chip in for a barber to sacrifice his hair again closer to the election!

  3. Do you know why they are retiring?
Because of the close races or the stench of Trump is getting to them??

    3
  4. Where’s that temple? Will it work if I send some hair in an envelope with a prayer to get Leningrad Lindsay and Moscow Mitch to leave?

    4
  5. Did I read somewhere that Kulkarni is actually a direct descendant of Sam Houston? There’s a story there . . .

    5
  6. Whoa! Is there a saying that, As Texas goes, so goes Kentucky and South Carolina? If not, there should be.

    6
  7. Wow! Is there a Hindu temple any where near Lee County??
Really! I used to pray in a Baptist temple in San Antonio, but never, never got the results Brother Kulkarni got. I have a full head of hair, thick, silver and ready to sacrifice. Just direct me to the nearest Hindu Temple.

  8. I’d love to write PostcardsToVoters for anyone who can convince a god of any persuasion to get GOPers to resign.

  9. Hmmm seems they are retiring before the sh$t hits the fan.

“Impeachment is coming — and here’s why the August recess could tip the scales”

” we have learned through testimony from all the top federal law enforcement officials and directors of the Intelligence agencies that the nation’s elections system — its democracy — was interfered with and sabotaged by Russian cyber-attacks in 2016 and 2018.
But three of them retiring, all from Texas districts that could plausibly be Democratic targets, are highly involved in intelligence and cyber-security matters. Rep. Mike Conaway is a powerful member of the House Intelligence Committee who handled the Russia probe when former chair Devin Nunes was forced to (sort of) recuse himself. Rep. Mike McCaul sits on the Homeland Security and Foreign Affairs committees. Rep. Will Hurd, the last remaining African American in the GOP caucus, is a former CIA officer with a special interest in cyber-security who sits on both the House Oversight and Intelligence committees.

Those could be a coincidences. Any Republican could be looking for reasons to abandon ship at this point. ”

I’ve been listening to the talking heads as they discuss the GOP exodus. The motives they attribute to the people who are jumping ship are far kinder than the reality.

The talkers are saying, “Well, they’re tired of carrying Trump’s water for him. They’re not racists — they’re just trapped.” And all that.

    Yeah, right.
If they didn’t want to be lumped in with the racists, those in the House, along with all the state reps who are grabbing their hats, would have left two years ago.
Or how about when Rick Santorum said, “Blah people.”
Or when Reagan accused all blacks of being welfare queens?
Or when Nixon began his Southern Strategy in the first place?
    But no.

Fact is, they’re not stupid — at least not about elections. Just about governing.
They saw what happened in 2018 and they know it was just the appetizer. A massive clean sweep is coming and they can’t see the point of spending the next 15 months busting their tails raising money and stumping for a lost cause.
And, as those in the House have already discovered, being in the minority sucks.

Acourse, I couild have told them they were lost causes long ago — but they weren’t going to listen to me, were they?

    States Fights Update:

Oh–this is SO RICH! Just think: Mitch McTurtle is refusing to call a vote on the election security bills that he is sitting on — because of STATES’ RIGHTS! But here we have a state exercising its right to place a reasonable requirement on those who wish to appear on state ballots!

Oh, the Humanity! Bring on a fiery Baby Trump Blimp!
You know — the same thing happened with the Confederate States before the Civil War! They bleated about their States’ rights to own slaves, because, you know, it’s their states, so it’s up to them! But they also boo-hooed about how there was a need for a Federal Act (which was sadly passed — the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850) to keep other states from providing asylum to escaped slaves!

You just can’t satisfy some people!

Edit: Gavin Newsom (D) ignites an orange fireball in Dolt’s vault of tax returns and 2020 plans.

Trump’s tax returns now required to participate under new California election law. The law, signed by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom on his final day to take action and passed on a strict party-line vote in the Legislature, requires all presidential candidates to submit five years of income tax filings.

They must do so by late November in order to secure a spot on California’s presidential primary ballot in March. State elections officials will post the financial documents online, although certain private information must first be redacted.

As enjoyable as it is watching the Republicon rats in the House abandoning ship, we’re waiting for the main event. Chairmen Cummings and Nadler are both building impeachment bonfires. If/when Speaker Pelosi releases the hounds with matches, the stampede in the Senate should be spectacular. Leningrad Lindsey, Moscow Mitch, Babayevo Burr and just plain creepy Teddie Crooze will be laying on the floor learning how few friends they have, when no one stops to help them to their feet.

We’re doing our part by looking for a good candidate to rid us of Mark Amodei, our last remaining Con varmint in Congress. His district is northern NV, or as we like to say Utah west and Iduho southern slum. Those of us in the NW pocket bordered by Oregon and CA are hoping the changing younger demographic near and around the UNR campus will add to the margin among the sane in this district.

Meanwhile, TX Gov Abbott thinks he’s got a fundraising winner with:
” “I thank God for what [U.S. Rep. Alexandria] Ocasio-Cortez has done for the Republican Party. “. …“If we lose Texas, we lose America,” Abbott said.”
“He warned of a “massive wave of liberal cash” that will be used to oust Republican representatives such as U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas).”

Bring it on Greggie-baby, y’all are going to get your MAGAotty Trumplovin’ asses handed back to you, skinned, in a handbasket.
