Take Your Pick

Trump tweeted —

So he’s going to do it from the White House, which is probably illegal unless he lets Joe Biden do it from there, too.  Or, he’s gonna try to stand in Abraham Lincoln’s shoes by speaking at the Gettysburg National Military Park overseen by the National Park Service.  So, the taxpayers get stuck with the bill either way.

I dunno, setting up chairs with balloons, streamers, and confetti on the middle of a historic battlefield where people have died just doesn’t seem appropriate, therefore I suspect it would, after all, be an opportune way to end the Trump presidency.

What a jerk.

You know, I’m just pondering here, but shouldn’t Biden give his speech at Mar-A-Lago with the dates that Trump played golf scrolling across the bottom?

Thanks to Deb T for the heads up.

  1. Fits right up there with his Rushmore ambitions. What a freaking ego!

  2. At first, because 45 disgusts me so, I got wild-eyed about the possibility of 45 desecrating Gettysburg with his presence. However, President Lincoln had people like 45 in mind when he said “The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract.” If Lincoln is to be believed, and he should be, 45 cannot detract from the consecration of Gettysburg battlefield, by his presence or any other way.

His White Nationalist and Neo-Confederate cultists aren’t going to appreciate that, when they remember who won the Battle of Gettysburg. I wonder if Trump knows? Will they be allowed to fly their Battle Flags during his acceptance speech?

  4. There’s a fabulous space in his hotel just down the street from the WH. Why he wouldn’t do there, I can’t imagine.

  5. If they let Biden show up at the Yellow House… (Gah, the imagery!) Cheez Whiz will probably find a way to sneak up behind him and glare at him ala Hillary.

  6. I say Gettysburg!
Then have 150,000+ volunteers show up and lie down on the battlefield to represent the number of citizens killed by COVID-19. Talk about truth in numbers.

I’m with BarbinDC, wondering why there’s no mention of using the Trump DC hotel. He’s usually quick to push profitable business to any of his properties, so why not this time?

  8. On second thought, so that it’s less gruesome – –
maybe 150,000 bright red balloons hovering like ghosts above the battlefield, while Trump rambles on about the great job he’s doing.

  9. Opinionated Hussy says:

I think he should do it from the 18th green….somewhere. Preferably in Dubai.

  10. Given that the Army of the Potomac had ~104,000, and the Army of Northern Virginia had ~75,000 combatants, their *total* number would be less than the number Boss Tweet is allowing us to count for the COVID dead by election day. It was the bloodiest battle in North American history, but Boss Tweet has allowed more deaths to happen.

    By accident…

  11. I’m all for the idea of Biden accepting his nomination at Mara-Lago.

And, besides having Trump’s golf dates scrolling across the bottom of the screen, I want the quote of his promise, if elected, to never play golf while in office on a massive screen prior to Biden’s speech.
    Afterward, too, ftm.
    On a loop.

  12. Ah , the Gettysburg Rally – world renowned in years to come .

  13. Brad in Dallas says:

It’s hilarious he’d consider Gettysburg, it’s like his erudition on Americana consists of a list of place names he’s heard somewhere, with no idea why they’re significant. He might just as likely have picked Love Canal or the Little Big Horn, but they were farther away.

  14. A fitting place would be next to a flaming dumpster behind Trump tower.

  15. Buttermilk Sky says:

I’m fine with trump accepting the nomination in a cemetery, just not that one. He chose it because he believes Lincoln is the only president who almost equals him in greatness. And as Brad says, it’s one of the few places he’s heard of. Appomattox would be a better choice, but his base wouldn’t care for the symbolism.

    15
  16. He could stand in the middle of Yankee Stadium for all I care.
I won’t watch it, regardless. More distraction.
