Sweet Lady Karma
This is so sweet that it’ll bring a tear to your eye.
The minute a federal judge ruled that congress had every right to see Trump’s financial records, his lawyers denounced it and promised …
Jay Sekulow, one of the president’s personal attorneys, said: “We will be filing a timely notice of appeal to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals.”
Do you want to know who is the chief judge of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals?
Put down your coffee first.
Merrick Garland.
The case will be heard by a panel of three judges from that court, so that means that Garland will not necessarily hear the case, but he’s the head honcho there and I thought Mitch McConnell might want to know that. And you, I thought you’d want to know.
Thanks to Maggie for the heads up.
Anyone other than Orange Foolius or a fascist rapey Republicon would be delighted that a judge of Merrick Garland’s caliber, experience and known judicial gravitas will be on the panel. A fair hearing is a guarantee, but that’s not what Donnie wants. That slacker Old Scratch McConnell failed to have all the rubber stamping ducks in a row. Too bad. Sorry about your luck, Donnie. Thoughts & prayers …
1“Congress is also allowed to investigate presidential conflicts of interest and a president’s conduct “before and during his term,” Mehta ruled, pushing back on an argument from Republicans that Congress shouldn’t be investigating Trump’s conduct that pre-dates his political career.”
The irony just jumps out at you. These are the same scumbags that gleefully pursued multiple “investigations” including one handled by a Special Prosecutor into Bill Clinton’s activities while governor of Arkansas. The Democrats ought to chant, en masse “Whitewater, Whitewater” any and ever time some Republican tries to advance that argument.
2I doubt that Trump and his team really care that much whether Garland is an “Us” or a “Them.” Their objective is to a) run out the clock and b) get the case in front of the beer-loving ass-grab and the other reliable Republicans of SCOTUS. They know they can get a favorable 5-4 ruling there no matter what Garland or the “Obama judge” have to say.
Of course since Metha did not grant a stay it may be a moot point by then. I don’t think they counted on that. Now Garland can run out the clock while the accounting firms comply with the order of the Federal Court.
But that’s they way they think. Not just Trump but all Republicans. The Republican Senate protects Trump and the Republican judges protect everything else they want. That’s why they say “we will find out if the fight for Kavanaugh was worth it.”
And that’s why they are protecting Trump to the bitter end. He appoints the judges that will deliver on demand what they want and that’s all over once Trump goes down.
The. Law. Is. Meaningless. To. Them.
3Bob Boland@2, the campaign ads for 2020 should be fun. Such a delightful turn of events after the boring “butter emails” and “Ben … ben.. ben . ghazi.”
Not a scrap of pity for the legal counsel tasked with preventing IQ4.5 from rage tweeting with his worst racist instincts. Redux of Donnie’s attacks on Indiana born federal judge Gonzalo Curiel as ‘Mexican.’ Amit Priyavadan Mehta, appointed by President Obama and once a clerk with the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, yeah, that should about “do it” for Donnie.
4Congrats, PKM, for coining the newest “f__k y__” phrase, “thoughts and prayers.”
And Bob Boland, don’t you know, our current AG doesn’t believe ANY republican president can EVER be reined in by something so trivial as the law.
5Mr. Phillips@5, thank you, but all the credit belongs to our southern compatriots. No one can say “bless your heart” or “thoughts & prayers” with the charming intensity of their snark.
Sort of wish I believed in heaven and hell. It would be comforting to know that there is a place for IQ4.5, Old Scratch McConnell and those who vote for Republicons. A place not here on Earth for them would be a thing dreams are made of…
6I wouldn’t doubt that at this moment Trump has tasked his 14,000 lawyers to also look into doing away with the whole 25th Amendment on their way to making the entire constitution “fake”. Except for the second of course.
7PKM, I’d suggest there is a hell, or will be. If Old Scratch, the dotard and Rs continue to run the country into the ground, we will know there is a hell on earth. Endless wars, uncontrolled climate change, deteriorating social and economic conditions, to name a few. Could a real hell be much worse?
8Merrick Garland? Hahahahahahahaha (deep breath)
9Hahahahahahahaha. Lady Karma has been ignoring the Trump administration for a while now. It’s time she took notice. Go get ’em, Ma’am!
Y’all can snark and pissnmoan until hell freezes over, but unless Democrats learn to think and act tactically and strategically LONGTERM, and relentlessly [from the lowliest voter/should-be voter, up to our ineffective ‘leaders’*] the Republicans will continue to rule. And soon impose a fascist autocratheocracy on all of us.
.
* IMO, even our current ‘leaders’, Pelosi and Schumer, are still performing suboptimally. Let alone regaining the huge setbacks incurred under one of our recent failed Presidents, ‘Bipartisan’ Barack Obama.
If you find yourself disagreeing, just reflect on how much raw power the Repukes are extremely effectively wielding today; and all the implications of that. And what, if Dems regain power, and even halfway properly exercise it, it will take to unwind the damage they’ve done in a ridiculously short time, to the nation and world.
