Schadenfreude Sweet Schadenfreude

Okay, I do not like to be happy when bad things happen to other people. Unless, of course, they damn well deserved it.

EAGLE GROVE, Iowa—On a cloud-swept landscape dotted with grain elevators, a meat producer called Prestage Farms is building a 700,000-square-foot processing plant. The gleaming new factory is both the great hope of Wright County, which voted by a 2-1 margin for Donald Trump, and the victim of one of Trump’s first policy moves, his decision to pull out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

For his part, Trump once promised a slew of “beautiful” deals to replace the TPP, but his administration has yet to lay out a detailed strategy.

I guess it was kinda like repeal and replace except they haven’t decided how to replace it, letting China take America’s place as the leading trade negotiator.

“I’m scared to death,” said Ron Prestage, whose North Carolina-based family pork and poultry business made its huge investment in the plant near Eagle Grove in part to reap expected gains from the TPP.

I do not know where the beautiful deals are and neither does Trump.

But the people who voted for him are getting hurt.  Maybe they’ll learn something.

Probably not, though.

Be social and share!

  1. And we can wait for them to find out in a few years that China and Europe dominate the market on renewable energy installations, while they’re standing in the front yard with a handful of coal that nobody wants.

  2. Prestage Farms must be getting bored with all this winning.

I wonder if they can convert their brand new meat processing plant to another application? I get the impression Trump’s version of winning is pretty much like watching sausage being made.

I do feel badly for people who will be hurt by traitor trump. But they were warned just what he is. They didn’t listen to the truth, didn’t think he’d betray them. Well, he is a cheap con artist interested only in himself. Traitor trump is an evil, immoral psychopath. He should be in a secure facility.

The only thing they will understand is a huge personal loss. Wait until Wisconsin finds that FoxConn is a fraud also

  6. Am I an evil person for wishing that Trump supporters hurt the most?

Just as voting — or not voting — has consequences, so does stupid voting. A characteristic of the kind of people who voted for Trump and for Republicans in general is that they can’t understand the consequence of a painful or ill-considered policy until it hurts them personally. If it hurts someone else whom they consider unworthy, then it’s fine and dandy.

  8. Yes, these people are hurting. There also does not seem to be a way out for them, at least soon enough to save their livelihood. His poll numbers are not just slipping but resting for considerable periods below a magic number no matter what Kellyanne says. Come the next national election these are the same people who will vote differently. His base, however, is composed of quite another sort. Have also thought they were completely delusional, willing to go down with the ship, etc. and hence suicidal. I don’t know what help can be given to them, even though they don’t want it. Maybe a massive mood enhancer in their drinking water? Otherwise, it is not worth the while worrying about them. Hey, this may be the only pleasure they get in their lives, if ya know what I mean.

I don’t feel bad for these Prestage investors.

I live in NC. This isn’t a family farm type of operation, this kind of “producer” is the kind that generates tons and tons of pollution(animal waste), poisoning the groundwater and air and the taxpayers get to pick up the tab for any future clean-ups. These bastards get tax break after tax break, and don’t you even THINK of filming anything that goes on inside one of these torture houses. They pushed for, and GOT laws preventing the public from knowing exactly how that meat got to the store. CRUEL BASTARDS, period. Making money off forcing helpless creatures to live horrid, torturous lives that at least are blessedly short, less than one year in most cases. Imagine.

  11. These people will still vote for Trump. He’ll just tell them it was Obama’s fault…or Hillary’s. And they’ll believe him.

  12. I’m with Cheryl. I just can’t generate any sympathy for those people.
