RBG Dead. We are Fucked.

September 18, 2020 By: El Jefe Category: Dammit!, Flamethrower, Holy Crap

RBG has died.  Our worst case scenario is now reality.  Cue the GOP crying for an IMMEDIATE appointment to replace her, disregarding the “Biden Rule” repeated 1,000 times in 2016.

  1. He better not even f******g try.

  2. Donate to Biden/Harris. They will need every dime we can spare for the campaign and lawyers.

My heart is broken for all of us who care about this nation.

    RIP RBG.
She wrote just before her death her wishes to allow the election to take place before her replacement, but the sharks in the Senate are already circling. F…..ng hypocrites. Nothing else will get done by repugnanticans in the senate. There’s not enough of them with a conscience to stop it.

  4. just saw on Washington Week
    now crying

  5. Sam in Superior says:

It’s a done deal i’M AFRAID. Trump will hold the appointment as a campaign issue. Republicans like Susan Collins won’t vote for anyone too controversial so the new justice will be chosen after the election.

Imagine the scenario of a Trump-appointed Justice hearing a case on the election along with Alito, Thomas, Gorsuch, and Kavanaugh.

Assuming Biden can still win, the first thing will be to expand the Court to 11 seats.

I truly want to go out and seek retribution but there’s something I want to watch tonight on TV.

  6. Grandma Ada says:

I thought it was odd that his majesty was announcing his choices for SCOTUS last week right out of the blue. He must have known she was on deaths door. This situation just turns my stomach!

    6
  7. For your years of towering justice and public good you will be remembered forever with respect and love, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

    7
  8. What a precious soul and beautiful being she was, and our last hope for justice on the Supreme Court. We have lost our heroine. God help us save this country.

    8
  9. Steve from Beaverton says:

Sam, I’m afraid you might be right. My hope is it will be a double edged sword for repugnanticans and will bring out the democratic vote even more. We’ll see how Mitch the hypocrite acts very soon. If they aggressively push to replace RBG, it shows they are truly panicked that Trumpf will lose.

    9
  10. She will be missed no matter who takes her seat. I don’t know that anyone can take her place.

    10
  11. I would like to see Elizabeth Warren there, though.

    11
  12. When we’re done crying (and I’m not done yet), we need to stand fast and fight harder to save our country. It’s do or die for all of us now.

    12
  13. Right now, I will reflect on the sheer fortitude of the woman who tried to carry the nation on her shoulders.

    And succeeded…

    13
  14. Desolee!! Heartbroken for her, for her family, and friends, and for the U.S.A.

    14
  15. No, just no.

“Anger is a useless emotion, it doesn’t get you any place. Do something positive.” The notorious RBG

No doom saying. Open your wallet and give if you can to as many Democrats running for office as possible. Pick up the phone and use your spare time to phone bank. Call every person you know and help them to plan how and when they will vote. Make certain the people you know understand the importance of this election. Call your Senators and get them to enforce the McConnell rule – 2 words Merrick Garland.

According to Jewish tradition, a person who dies on Rosh Hashanah, which began tonight, is a tzaddik, a person of great righteousness. I find that extremely comforting.

Now, do something positive. Do it for yourself, do it for your country, do it for RBG, it is the best way to honor the woman.

    15
  16. Rest in power, RBG. You did your duty in full every day of your life. Now we must do ours.
We’re f***ed when we act like we are. What Deb said.

    16
  17. Thank you, Deb.

    17
  18. Deb, those are the right thoughts, words, and actions. In a couple days when I can control the rage and move beyond despair, I will use them as my guide. For now, I think an independent lab should be checking to make sure it wasn’t novichok.

    18
  19. Yes. Exactly what Deb said.

    19
  20. The Surly Professor says:

Now, don’t worry. Back when McConnell refused to let Obama’s last nominee come up for a vote, both Marco Rubio and Lindsay Graham said that the American people should have a say in it. And they explicitly said that even if there were a Republican president, they would take the same stance in 2020. I recall Graham saying that the American people could hold him to his word.

So of course they’ll take a firm stand and refuse to let American Enterprise Institute and the Federal Society’s next candidate be voted on. Otherwise, they’d be hypocrites and liars.

… OK, I can’t go on like this. They’ll vote for whatever judicial nightmare Trump vomits up for them with neither delay nor thought.

  21. georgie-porgie says:

Vaya con Dios, RBG. I feel like we have lost our own Joan of Arc who has fought so hard for us. The loss we all feel is beyond words. This little woman was such a tower of strength, such a bastion of goodness of soul. Words fail me to describe how I felt about her. What a role model she has been… Thank you, dear sister, for the battle you have waged and the sacrifices you have made.

Wally, both my husband’s and my first thoughts were “Could it have been Novichok? We’re dealing with Putin’s Puppet here, after all!

    21
  22. Deb, one positive action is to join Vote Forward (https://votefwd.org/) The goal is 10M letters to non-voters (Democrat leaning) to change their minds. It’s easy, just costs a stamp. Looks like they need 3M more letters in the next month.

    Write on!

    23
  23. if Trump wants to pick to replace RBG with another NY Jewish woman there is no more obvious pick than Ivanka.
