Welcome to The World's Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc.
My name is Susan DuQuesnay Bankston. I live in Richmond, Texas, in the heart of Tom DeLay's old district. It's nuttier than squirrel poop here.
I am honored and privileged to know Miss Juanita Jean Herownself, hairdresser extraordinary and political maven. Since she does not have time to fiddle with this internet stuff, I type her website for her and you can read it if you want to. If you don't, she truly does not give a big bear's butt.
A lot of what I post here has to do with local politics, but you probably have the same folks in your local government.
This ain't a blog. Blogs are way too trendy for me. This is a professional political organization.
I grew up thinking that watching the SOTU was a requirement for citizenship. I watched them all–until Reagan came along and I just couldn’t allow my sensibilities to be insulted any further. Dubya wasn’t worth listening to, either.
Interestingly, this President has never embarrassed me, even though he has not always emphasized the issues I had hoped he would.
So, yeah, this was a good one.
1I certainly agree with you on this. I certainly did not see Boner get very excited and had to eat a lot of crow because he was the big cheerleader on the job killing ACA and tax increases and what happened? 11.2 million more jobs and deficit reduction and over a 100% gain in the stock market! Great stuff! Where was this before the November election however.
2Loved his snarky comeback when the GOP applauded his saying that he didn’t have any more campaigns– “I won the last two.”
Once early in W’s term he was about to give a speech as I was turning the TV off, and I thought, might as well see what he has to say. But when they said, “Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States,” and Dubya smirked onstage, my gorge rose and I switched him off.
But this guy– “…the President of the United States,” and he comes on…. Yeah, I want to hear what he has to say, even if he doesn’t always say what I’m hoping to hear.
My husband remarked that, with Obama and Boehner both on camera with him, “Biden looks like an albino.”
3I watched the SOTU while checking Twitter. It’s the most fun I’ve had watching a SOTU. There were great jokes about the Orange Boner! Lots of appreciation for the “won the last two” quip. Also for his topics.
Obama rocked on this one! He was the Obama that got me excited in 2008.
Oh yeah, I followed Twitter for the Hog Lady’s rebuttal. That was even more hilarious! I didn’t hear any of the other Republican speeches. But I heard that Texas’ favorite Senator massively screwed his little speech up. His handlers took it down immediately because it already has spread across the ethernet. I haven’t found it yet. Anyone else?
4He’s my President, and I applaud him. Moreover, I believe he’s just about to fulfill all the expectations I had six years ago. It’s unfortunate that he tried so hard for so long to get the right wing to give a damn about this country. Two more years and still so much that this amazing man can accomplish. Bravo, Mr. President, bravo!
5I’m sure glad we elected him TWICE! He made me very proud to be a Democrat.
But I still wonder when the Republicans are going to figure out that Robin Hood was a hero and Scrooge was a villain. They have had it bass ackwards for decades.
6During the peroration, he harked back to his speech at the 2004 convention. I remember watching that speech live. Well, this speech in 2015 has me repeating now what I said then: there’s MY President!
7Debbo, Yahoo news has his interview with Faux Noose

Huffpo also has something, but I try to avoid Huffpo because they have too much click bait and listicles.
8Definite home run with the bases loaded. As a former teacher I am totally atwitter about his idea of free 2 years of college. Heck, Germany is already providing 4 free years. Canada has for a long, long time tacked on an extra year at the end of the high school experience for all those who want to take the first year of college at home. That would give them only 3 years at an undergrad school, and thats 3 years less tuition, even at the low rate that can be found in Canada. Of course, the RWNJs would consider this socialism etc. but bleeping’ heck, the vast majority of all Congresscritters can afford to send their kids t college and boy oh boy they do not want to further add to the competition on campus that their kids already get. I swear, they make Pepe LePew smell like a rose!

10As the President listed the accomplishment of his administrations, I reminded myself that he did all this, not just almost on his own, but with constant denigration, undermining and push back from those hypocrites who now lament that he hasn’t done enough for the economy. HE hasn’t done enough!
11Throw the bums out…in 2016.
Debbo: AOL, of all places, has the Ted Cruz fiasco displayed on their front page. What an embarrassment!
12The President knocked it out of the park with bases loaded! Two free years of community college would be a total blessing. I see so many kids out of high school and in the senior class who have given up on any idea of further education because of the cost. Their folks just can’t afford even a public college. Wages are flat. Tuition keeps rising. And forget about going away to school. Yet education is where its at. I’m going to rely on my own Canadian experience here. Canada sticks on an extra year after senior year for those who want to take the first year of college at home. Then comes 3 years of undergrad and Canadian public universities have very low tuition compared to the U.S. version. A lot of American kids have moved to Canada to benefit from the tuition differential. I would recommend that this country do both: offer the extra year (university freshman year) locally for the kids who are already in school. The two free years can be available for these kids after completing the extra year wherein they can take the second year of college on campus. For all those who are well beyond high school age, the two free years of community college would work very well. And like I said, out of the park with the bases loaded!
13I didn’t watch(sleeping),but, can anyone tell me if any pigs were hurt during the rebuttal?

16John Boehner looked like a constipated sweet potato.
And that was not Joni Ernst; that was obviously a robot. It did not blink once, its teeth were a white not found in nature, and the voice was more robotic than Siri.

20Here’s the link from Daily Kos for the Cruz venture into La-La Land.

As the President listed the accomplishments of his administration, I couldn’t help but think that he had to do it pretty much without the help of Congress and against undeserved rancor and bigotry. Now the repugs whine that he hasn’t done enough for the economy. HE hasn’t done enough!
21They are despicable!

Fourth attempt to get comment through. Running out of hope. All is bleak. Is this the end?
23Noticed the Cheetos man must be tired of remarks about his orange head. Not sure he was sporting imminent stroke/heart attack red or a more robust bottle of Sangiovese.
24That was a stem-winder. I hope he either gets a lot of it done or makes the Repugs look even more like total jerks than they already do.
That Cruz response was disgusting. How stupid does he think people are?

Joni Hawgneuter (R-Kochonut) had the same deer-in-the-poachers’-headlights look that the recent GOP antiSOTU speakers have shared, but she managed not to fall down, which now passes for a win. No limbo bar has been set lower, but I’m sure they will find someone to slither under it next year.
Yet, reconsidering, not falling down was quite an accomplishment, what with her feet encased in the bread wrappers of her poor black sharecropper youth, the ones she wore walking ten miles to school, in the snow, uphill, both ways.
Plus, her hair can deflect bullets, or surprised, outraged ex-boars.
26Gotta admit I enjoyed watching Boner sitting up there looking like a wet and constipated owl.
27Honestly that blankie could add years to the life of that tv, just during the time it takes to watch one SotU broadcast.
28I’m betting the “off-script” snarky remark was rehearsed.
He teed it up. His staff had to recognize that his saying “I only have 2 more years” would get a smattering of applause from the Tea Party morons. Trap baited, varmints caught, beat with a stick. A primo moment.
29Joni Hawgneuter…I love it, deChipster. I hope it becomes her permanent name.
30Er, I meant daChipster.
31It was a great speech. Too bad O didn’t go full throttle after this agenda 6 years ago when he had congress watching his back. Unfortunately, he wasted his early years spinning his wheels trying to get along with a bunch of teabagger republicans and we know how that worked out. The current congress will do what they always do and block and impede any effort he makes on our behalf. It’s all they have. I’ll give republicans this much, they do fight. They’re always wrong but they fight for it just the same. Wish we had democrats who would fight like republicans. Wouldn’t that be something to see? The best I can say at this point is that the president handed the 2016 democratic candidates several issue gifts if they’re smart enough to use them. He also taught them that populist issues resonate with the public. Something, apparently, the last batch of loser democrats couldn’t seem to figure out.
32daChipster, as Juanita Jean and Thelma can tell you, that “do” is not called Helmet Hair for nothing.
Pore Little Miss Bread Bags fambly had some money from somewhere to pay for all that dentistry that can blind you at 50 paces.
33Boehner looks like he’s six months away from skin cancer. Or he just climbed out of a Cheetos vat.
34Eating Rocky Mountain oysters causes teeth to whiten-or was it drinking bleach. Hard to tell with wingnuts. With her background of taking out her womanly frustrations on male pigs, maybe wing-nuts becomes more appropos than ever.
iowa produces strange critters. We now have a sinator that declared war on males and females.
35Re: Community college…Wanted to comment that a conservative friend of mine (a mom of three kids like me; but I should note that I’m a closet democrat in a republican county of maryland; closet because I don’t want my car scratched or have names hurled at me) announced to me last week that she is horrified, truly upset, that (Pres) Obama is even considering offering community college to the masses. She thinks that will be the end of higher education; will dilute the quality for her own middle-school aged kids. I was stunned; and couldn’t think of a quick response other than the fact that currently, because of a bankruptcy, they can’t afford college and it would benefit HER family too. She understands that, but wants HER kids to have a good community college education; not one that is dumbed down. Logic failed me…
36BWG- I can’t really help with the lack of logic within your community circle. I’m from Tennessee and have my own lot of bat faced loons. Let’s face it, republican brains are just wired differently. Even if you stand in front of them and manage to untangle their bad logic they basically squint their eyes at you and go…whuat?
In my view the weakness in the idea of a free 2 year community college education throughout the nation is that it will potentially decimate the freshman and sophomore classes within 4 year universities and colleges. Especially damaged will be the type of institution I taught throughout my career, private 4 year colleges. So far I have not noticed discussions about this point being addressed on a national scale. While I know the idea is still very new, I can assure you that the it is making 4 years schools very nervous. We’ll see what develops.
The most surprising aspect to me about the idea is that I haven’t noticed any particular national outrage coming from the teatard classes about this new socialist idea of a “free” college education. What’s going on with that? They explode over healthcare as being worst than Hitler. But free college tuition…crickets. These people are truly weird. The best I can figure is that the idea seems to have incubated within a republican governor figure,Tennessee’s governor Bill Haslam. Shortly later Obama shows up in Tennessee to speak its praises and sing kumbaya with the local republicans here in Tennessee. I have to think that a national implementation of the proposal could take a lot longer, given that the evil Kenyan has embraced the idea.

I DIDNT SAY THIS.
38I couldn’t watch the SOTU for eight years because of that smirk; It was soooo nice watching BHO’s first one just because it wasn’t all about that smirk.
39I don’t know what’s going on there, but the auto-filled name “RA” with a gmai.com address is not me. It just showed up on my computer. I’m “june” and have always used that name when commenting here.
40Sorry, there is some confusion. I will delete it.

42Great idea Brother Sunflower. Wish I had thought of that. If I had I probably wouldn’t have needed an antacid after the speech. Obama was great!
43What does your mom have against the color Orange?
44Ralph Widmore thanks for the link. The Larry Wilmore show had a perhaps more telling “do over” bit – that man (Cruz)is an idiot.Glad the site is healed. We need JJ more than ever with the likes of him around.
45Ralph Wiggam – sorry about that.
46Y’all git bored, head over to the Tayuksus Legislachoor where they’re doing all in their power to haul us back to 1859. You reckon they’re gonna hand out chalk slates at the door for prospective teachers? I personally think we oughta have a mutiny day. Marginal Marge and her Mutineers performing in the gallery of the Pink Building. Anyone up for that?
47Brother Sunflower, I know why your mama did that. I tried to sleep after the SOTU, but my right eye wouldn’t shut. But in all seriousness, I couldn’t have been prouder of our president.
48I claim comment #20, but not ## 17 and 18. There’s a rip in cyberspace!
