Nothing Says GOP and NRA Quite Like An Old White Guy Who Committed Treason

Oh yeah, it’s Ollie!

Y’all, it’s kinda sad.  The GOP doesn’t have any leaders left who haven’t been convicted of some damn thing.

Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North is poised to become the new president of the National Rifle Association, according to a press release. North, a Fox News host and key figure in the Iran-Contra scandal, will become president “within a few weeks, a process the NRA Board of Directors initiated” Monday morning, the release says. North is retiring from Fox News immediately.

Remember how he had to be granted immunity before he’d testify before congress on Iran Contra?  Delicate little snowflake.

Thanks to Kary for the heads up.

It’s just the continuum of vile creatures the NRA magnetizes towards. Robt J. Dowlut, who murdered his girlfriend’s mother and more… became the star of the NRA once released from prison. He was the General Counsel Mister Big at the NRA who took a hunting club and turned it into a genocidal terrorist org. at the behest his and gun maker greed.

They had to snatch him up before Trump chose him for head of ATF.

Unless Ollie moved, in Virginia a felony conviction prevents a person from owning a gun but not from being President of the NRA.

But of course, all the old nut jobs are crawling out from under their rocks to grab positions of power. It’s the Trump effect:
What was judged unethical/immoral in normal times has now become not only accepted, but admired by Trumpians.
This has damaged America so Putin’s plan has already worked.

Following the Trump plan of giving horrible people jobs.

    6
  7. Sam in St Paul, I don’t think Trump would put Ollie in charge of the ATF. Trump’s standard is put people in charge of departments who want to destroy those departments– prime examples being Pruitt at EPA and DeVos at Education, among so many others. And Whosis in charge of Reproductive Policy who doesn’t believe in birth control.

  8. Ted in Austin says:

montag, I thought likewise. Looking further I learned his conviction was thrown out on appeal. There really is a separate Law for those in power!

  9. I can’t help feel a bit of regret for Oliver North’s largely wasted professional life. “what the he77 happened Oliver?” On paper and up to a point in life he was an ideal American warrior. But as so often happens, he squandered his opportunities and somehow followed Rapid Ronnie Raygun into “the dark side” of conservative politics, where he has lived since 1990ish. What a waste. Stars fell on his USNA classmates, where in you find a CMC, a CNO, a NASA administrator.

What a sad excuse for a man much less a lt col. we paid for his education. I want my money back as I don’t finance traitors.

The gun and shredder manufacturers are rejoicing.
The trumpanzees will even be accessorizing their paper choppers now, with camo and lasers [shredder ‘accidents’ will be on the rise–‘WTF? You got your junk in there? yeowww].

  12. What an insult and a slap in the face to those in the military who swore to uphold the constitution and who serve or served with honor. Ollie should have gone to federal prison.

Don’t give them any ideas…but they just get an extra long electrical cord and plug in that old vampire, Dick Cheney for the ATF.

I suppose Mike Flynn will also occupy that office sometime in the future.

George Zimmerman is pissed he didn’t get the job. For me, Elmer Fudd would have been the logical choice.

  15. The Gerg says:

North spoke a couple of months ago at a local church. He was billed as a “patriot” and a conservative hero. What a pack of total ignoramuses.

  16. maggie says:

O.M.G. Ollie had been spending his time on some sort of radio show. I think he even wrote a book and of course he has been the paid honoree at various events, even in churches. I do remember his testimony on the Hill. He showed up in full uniform although he had been warned not to do so. I also recall what one journalist called him: jejune. I believe that is French for something really not used in polite conversation. Hence, it is totally apt.

  17. @ Linda Phipps: Yosemite Sam might be an ATF job candidate.

Of all the outrageous things contained in this story, what pisses me off the most is that North is still Lieutenant Colonel, USMC (Ret). Why wasn’t he stripped of his rank and drummed out at his conviction? This lying, criminal POS is probably drawing a pension on our dime.

    19
  20. Stony Pillow says:

    Law abidin’.

    20
  21. @Lunargent

Mr North Accumulated 22 years of USMC service. I have read that he retired soon after his conviction. I suspect he is drawing the pension he earned for those 22 years of service. Personally I opine it is poor public or judicial policy to confiscate earned federal pension benefits based on the beneficiary’s criminal convictions.

Will the Lying Leatherneck continue to do his Fox Noise show? If not, a timeslot just opened up for Ghouliani, who’s due to be fired as a trumplawyer in five…four…three…

Perhaps all the other felony arms dealers were busy? And, really, doesn’t anyone recall North taking the 5th thus making him – in the eyes of Trump followers – a member of the Mafia? The man dubbed the “Fortunate Felon” sure seems to have done well for himself. I wonder about Fawn Hall….
