Not a Great Start

February 02, 2021 By: El Jefe Category: Impeachment, Insurrection, Trump

One of the constant threads that wound through Trump’s infestation of the WH was poor grammar, poor usage, and careless misspellings.  Bringing this characteristic to the end, his lawyers’ answer today to the single article of impeachment filed by the House, Trump’s lawyers, in the introductory paragraph, actually misspelled…wait for it…United States.  That’s right, folks, in the very introduction of his defense of the indefensible, United States was spelled Unites States.  These are supposedly high dollar lawyers with deep experience, and they are so careless in carrying out their responsibilities that they didn’t even bother to spellcheck.  Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.

Who needs spellcheck if once again Mort Blackwell has ordered Moscow Mitch to stand down and prevent 17 of their senators from doing their constitutional duty? Again.

Mort Blackwell, the same guy who apparently told at the time RNC chairman Reince Priebus to stand down and allow the aberration Donnie to full RNC resources and support in 2015/2016.

The same attention to detail that his administration showed for four loooong years.

  3. Well, in their defense (sort of), they only had a day or two to slap all that crap together, what with turnover and all. And if the shelf life of your job is probably only a few more days, why spend a bunch of time polishing a turd?

  4. Not uncommon for this crowd to depend totally on Spell Check and never, but never go old school with two people checking all the copy before it hits the street.

  5. to be fair (as opposed to what repubs do) my spell check did not flag when I typed Unites States (spell check does NOT approve of my use of ‘repub’)
so it’s a typo (multiple times over) plus lack of review

no matter – big serving of ‘egg on face’

Do you suppose they treat their secretaries poorly and the ladies (because of course they are ladies) refuse to proofread? Or do they type these things up themselves and never proofread?

I’ve worked for 4 different law firms over the last 25 years and I think it is possible an administrative assistant (fka secretary) typed this one. Any assistant worth their salt runs spell check and proofs, although proofreading your own work is no guarantee of perfection. The rule at all the firms I worked for was that the lawyer bears ultimate responsibility for all typos that remain in docs that go out. The doc that contained misspellings of the word “District” in multiple places was undoubtedly typed by a lawyer. No assistant would turn that over to the lawyer to send out like that.

Jere Armen@6: I have no doubt that lawyers hired by Trump treat their assistants miserably, but speaking as one who has worked for a monster, you don’t want to give the person any excuse to start the yelling and throwing of things unless you’ve got your stuff packed up and you’re ready to walk out the door.
