  1. The tradegy in El Paso should put paid to the delusion of armed civilians protecting others.
This being in Texas I would find it hard to beleive that there were not a number of armed wingnuts ( redundant) excerciseing their mythical 2nd amendment rights to terrorize the public by strutting around with a weapon.
And yet, according to reports, a single shooter was able to murder a reported 20 people and wound/injure many more while still being able to surrender meekly to police when they challenged him.
Again according to reporting the murderer surrendered to police in hope of a show trail or a pardon from demented donnie.
No thoughts and prayers just a huge bonfire for all the weapons.
That would be a fitting memorial a pile of melted plastic, metal and burnt wood from all the guns being destroyed.
Also according to reports he had posted an inane screed praiseing his fellow mentally deficient (as they all are) gun lover from New Zealand on his social media.

  2. What if Trump does a ” come to Jesus” moment and confesses his son’s to regain the evangelical vote and then reverts to his sinful ways? Will that let him be re-elected?

    New American Way of Life?

I’ll pass please. Can I opt out? I also wasn’t so fond of the old American Way of Life with all the misogyny and racism and homophobia.

I’m perhaps more intereseted in the Scandavian Way of Life. They seem to have a few things figured out.

    4
  5. 249 mass shootings in 215 days.

Prayer without action has become a political mantra, an excuse to collect money from gun manufacturers and the NRA under the guise of protecting the 2nd Amendment while ignoring its opening clause, “A well REGULATED militia …” thus enabling carnage in schools, malls, synagogues, churches, and mosques, at concerts and festivals and anywhere people gather together.

Following the horrific shooting in Christchurch, Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand didn’t simply offer her people platitudes, she called on them to do something, “Let us be the nation we believe ourselves to be.” Then she got to work passing sensible and effective legislation because she takes seriously the idea that government is supposed to serve and protect its people.

No other nation has this issue. Not one. In no other nation will you find 249 mass shootings in a year, just here. Why are we allowing this to continue? Don’t kid yourself this can happen in any city in any place in our country. How’s about we actually DO SOMETHING because prayer without action is meaningless. And while I’m at it, maybe if you want to clean house, we should get a woman to do it, Lord knows most of us have had some experience in that department.

  6. One more thing, tonight on the news the anchor highlighted back to school purchases, it’s Missouri’s sales tax holiday weekend. There were the usual items, computers, notebooks, school clothing and Kevlar backpacks. Kevlar for kids and I found myself thinking, should I be purchasing one of these for my granddaughter? She needs a new backpack….

Our children deserve better than this.

    6
  7. Mark Johnson says:

@Deb, Walmart now sells Kevlar backpacks in Texas so your school-age children can move the backpacks around like Wonder Woman with her bracelets to fend off flying bullets from young white male GOP Trump terrorists. Guess you need to pick one up on your way into the store when you shop there just in case. Hopefully, they will keep a big display of them by every entrance.

    7
  8. Sam in Superior says:

Greg Abbott appears ready to ignore another mass murder saying that this is not the time to talk about politics. That time will never come as long as the GOP runs the country. Abbott’s handicap is that he’s a moral cripple.

    8
  9. Kevlar backpacks?

My older relatives who served in RVN assure me that M-1955 flak jacket could/would NOT stop a 7.62×39 round from an AK at any range. They also mentioned draping their flak jacket over their first class seating in Hueys as they were transported from here to their in this AoO. Apparently the flak jack could redirect a round from the ground into the bottom of the Huey, protecting legs and the succeeding family generations from destruction.

I personally tried out a Second Chance vest in 1977. These kevlar wonders (mostly) worked but left the wearer with a big honking bruise, as opposed to a sucking chest wound. Interestingly the sales rep told me the vest was good for one shot. The act of winding itself around the speeding bullet destroyed the interior of the vest.

I hope in 40+years the technology has improved. Otherwise I’d recommend a .25-inch thick piece of aluminum slipped into the padding of a backpack, the part that snugs up against the kiddo when they wear it with their arms through both shoulder straps.

    9
  10. The alleged President of the United States has cost taxpayers over 100m dollars to watch TV and play golf. Ordinary people shopped on tax free weekend for their children’s school supplies and were shot and died. OMG

  12. Sandridge says:

There was a second massacre in Dayton, OH last night too, in an ‘entertainment district’, so I’ll guess a religio-RWNJ gunning for ‘sinners’.

The police/FBI press statements I’ve seen so far have barely tippytoed around the El Paso massacre being a hate crime, no mentions at all about the cowardly bastards’ tRumpian worship and RWNJ white nationalist fanaticism.
The asshole purposely planned, armed up, and drove hundreds of miles to a –border town– to kill Mexicans. His writings speak of how Texas is an Anglo place*. If it had been any kind of leftist or furriner type, the hype about ‘terrorist’ would be deafening.
I study [S] TX history, first there were dinos, then ‘native americans’ migrated in, then Spanish and French. The NA’s harassed the Spanish for centuries. Then the Spanish allowed in some Anglo settlers…

And finally, after many hours [had a few golf holes to go], SOBOTUS bleats out about his and Malaria’s ‘heartfelt thoughts and prayers’.
Still waiting for Abbott and Moscow Mitch to chime in. Oh, Abbott with the ‘t&p, too early to politicize this…’ bullshit.
    .

    *
From Abbott’s earlier San Antonio fundraiser:
“If we lose Texas, we lose America,” Abbott said… TX State Sen. Donna Campbell (R-New Braunfels): must stay red, Campbell said, “because there is no other Texas for us to move to.”.

  13. charles phillips says:

9 dead, 16 wounded, one shooter.

Thoughts and prayers ain’t making it, Christ-folks. Maybe re-thinking the whole 2nd Amendment be a good idea right about now?

    13
  14. Old Fart says:

It is telling when a mass casualty event with 9 dead is overshadowed by *another* mass casualty event in our country. And both involved firearms.

Hair Furor is going to do nothing, and GOPs will help him keep it that way. I doubt the racist tweets will even slow down.

I bought some Moscow Mitch swag and I think it is just one of many steps I’ll need to take to help protect our country…

    14
  15. I hope momma won’t bend me over the sink and soap my mouth for saying this: Congress has the spine of a jellyfish. They’ll do nothing about changing the 2nd Amendment until a young male RWNJ SOB points a gun at them.

Thoughts & prayers from Rump and minions are just plain insulting to the dead and their families.

    15

Steve Scalise was shot. Nothing changed. The only remedy is to vote every Republicon out of office. Remove the obstructionists, then do what’s right.

    17
  18. Beto O’Rourke suggested these shootings are the result of the racist in the WH stoking the white supremacists. I have to agree.

DO NOT let this monster post his excrement of hate without a show of loud dissent. He is, and the GOP AND MSM are drenched with the blood of Americans.

    18
  19. Martha McSally (R-AZ) came out said she that her heart breaks today.

Apparently, not enough to support gun violence reforms. The hearts of 29 people stopped beating when they were shot to death.

    19
  20. Beto O’Rourke says this is a result of the racist diatribes coming from the WH. I have to agree.

We can no longer sit by and read monster’s hateful excrement with out showing mass revulsion for those responsible for incitement coming from these lunkheads in power. The press prints his invective, the GOP allows it and people are dying.

    20
  21. Message to Trump. If you travel the red parts of our country having rally’s promoting hate of your fellow Americans, then you need to take responsibility for young males who are between teen age & man hood, who follow your advise & kill other Americans in your name.

I just watched Kamala Harris who is so angry it looked like she was going to cry. I am with her.

    23
  24. Megasoid et al, yes, such actions as mass murder or a single murder have an inspiration usually from someone somewhere, be it a brain dead acolyte of Faux Noose or somebody in a bar somewhere talking to his beer. These things happen because of a cause. The guy who was talking to his beer may have been so drunk that he won’t be able to recall what he did. But the guy who has made it his avocation to do everything he can to concoct hatred within the country he claims to love should be brought up at least on charges of aiding and abetting There! I’ve said it and I’m glad.

    24
  25. If there is a bright spot, hundreds of people in El Paso AND Las Cruces lined up for hours to give blood.

    25
  26. And while I’m on a roll, point number 2. Paranoid schizophrenia has some very interesting symptoms. After killing as many people as he could, the El Paso shooter meekly surrendered. Meekly! Note that! PS patients do a thing called “spiraling”. We would call it a total meltdown. The spiraling does have a way of wearing down, hence, the meek surrender. Also, PS patients flip flop on their “causes” like you wouldn’t believe. One minute they are threatening your life, but if you “interrupt” their bullying they swing the other way swearing they never said such a thing or did such a thing and that you have to be lying! Or in today’s parlance, you have to be “fake news”. They also have really, really bad sleep habits such as getting only a few hours each night because they absolutely must either write a manifesto or tweet with the speed of light. They can also go about in society without penalty. Does any of this sound familiar!

    26
  27. We are under attack, instigated by our own government by an invisible militia.

    From The Intercept:

ON SATURDAY MORNING, a gunman at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, shot and killed at least 20 people before surrendering to the police.By all accounts, Patrick Crusius, the 21-year-old alleged shooter, is a fan of President Donald Trump and his policies. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, “a Twitter account bearing the suspect’s name contains liked tweets that include a ‘BuildTheWall’ hashtag” and “a photo using guns to spell out ‘Trump.’”

Incredibly, the nation woke up to more grim news on Sunday, with reports that a man suited up in body armor and bearing a rifle with high-capacity magazines had carried out a rampage in Dayton, Ohio, killing at least nine people and injuring 26.

Little is known yet about the Dayton shooter, but a four-page manifesto authorities believe was written by Crusius and posted shortly before the El Paso attack is full of the kind of hateful rhetoric and ideas that have flourished under Trump.

The manifesto declares the imminent attack “a response to the Hispanic invasion,” accuses Democrats of “pandering to the Hispanic voting bloc,” rails against “traitors,” and condemns “race mixing” and “interracial unions.” “Yet another reason to send them back,” it says.

  30. The Lt. Governor of Texas just blamed all this on video games. Yeah, America is the ONLY country with video games. Republicans can say crap like this, because it’s not a political party, it’s a cult.

How many gun laws have been changed since the last mass shooting? The one before that? The one before that? The US has exactly the president and the government it deserves.

My husband and I retired to Spain 3 years ago. We have never made a better decision.

    30
  31. Sandridge says:

Let’s not forget that the Trump maladministration, in April, defunded and effectively killed a special DHS unit tasked with finding, monitoring, and tracking probable individuals and groups engaged in suspected DOMESTIC TERRORISM; which is 99.8% RWNJ territory.

Note that if you are an advocate for civil rights, environmental issues, unions, basically anything even a bit ‘left’, you are likely to already be on various LEO and federal agency radarscopes to one degree or other [LEO’s from podunk villages, county mounties, right on up to the big letter agencies].
RWNJ’s are, so far, treated very differently.
You, as a ‘lefty’, are also quite likely to already be getting your communications monitored, online [like here], being tracked via the hundreds of thousands of video cameras and cellphone monitoring devices nationwide [yes, your vehicle and/or face can be identified and matched, tracked, almost anywhere you go, on detection or demand]. All surveillance accessed by any LEO and/or private security corp with permissions [most of them to one degree or other].

    31
  32. Sandridge says:

    Kary,
That would be our extremely RWNJ Dan Patrick, among other things, a multiply-failed ‘businessperson, and former RW radio yapper. Also a damnedyankee from NJ who changed his Jewish surname [Goeb] to the Irish ‘Patrick’.
Look up our whackjob felon-indicted AG Ken Paxton for more of the continuing Texass saga.

  33. Old Fart says:

McTurtle is the key to unlocking this ride into Dotard’s hate pit. All he has to do is hint that an impeachment trial could proceed if it makes it through the House, and the violent rhetoric coming out of the WH could be decreased. Bloatus is a survivor, and knows he’s toast without a pardon before he leaves office…

    33
  34. Old Fart @33,

Apparently Democrats in KY infuriated McConnell by loudly chanting “Moscow Mitch” while was trying to speak.

And this in at CNN: MoscowMitch broke his shoulder at home.

    34
  35. I wonder how soon until the tinfoil hat brigade decides thats these tragedy’s were just “political theatre” with “crisis actors” to foment unrest about guns.

At least with Bubba jr. on the case the greatest purveyor of these lies should think twice about opening his pie hole on this subject.

    35
  36. Jane & PKM says:

Papa@34, Moscow Mitch probably broke his shoulder reaching to pat himself on the back, or Elaine’s family sent the word for her to smack Mitch to punish him for bringing too much unwanted attention to the family. If Old Scratch’s big mouth walks him into an investigation, the Chao’s will not be pleased.

    36
  37. AK Lynne says:

The plural of Chao is Chaos. That’s fitting.

  40. Old Fart says:

While I don’t want McTurtle injured, I do want him held responsible for his (in)actions. If there is any chance of his/her impropriety concerning voting machines or international trade, I hope his career ends in the trash heap of corrupt politicians held out as stinking ding balls from this nation’s history…

  42. RE: Video games. From the Twitter feed of the wonderful Ted Lieu:
Remember when the El Paso mass shooter based his manifesto on “Fortnite”?

Or how the Charleston mass shooter said “Overwatch” made him angry?

Or how the Las Vegas mass shooter couldn’t win at “Donkey Kong” and got mad?

Deal with facts & stop making shit up.

    42
  43. I skim-read the comments above – well, at my age time is precious! – but nowhere did anyone mention the easy availability, not of guns, but of drugs whose malignant effects particularly on the already mentally disturbed are well known. But of course, all the ‘Great and the Good’ will tell you that smoking ‘pot’ is no problem at all – nothing to see here, move along . . .

    43
  44. Ralph Wiggam says:

Republicans have the hardest job in the world, finding a moral justification for greed. Their job got a whole lot harder last week. Now they also have to find a moral justification for mass murder.

    44
  45. Ralph, as a Brit, of course, I would never stoop to being a Republican – ‘Gawd bless ‘er Majesty’! – but given that it is now apparent that the other murderous nutter was a Dem-supporting Leftist who detested Trump, perhaps a “moral justification for mass murder” might be required on both sides!

    45
  46. Sandridge says:

Well, in financial news, this Monday the markets are cratering. It’s not yet a total wipeout like some previous days events, but it’s looking bad. Gold is way up though, you know what that means.

DJIA is down more than 500 points [~2%], crude oil is dropping like a stone [it’s gone down ~8% in the last week]. other indexes tanking, global markets diving.
Comrade Donnei [Tariffman] & Rethugs didn’t have a thing to do with this though…
