My Governor

Well, Greg Abbott stands by his man – Donald Trump.

The Dean of the Baylor College of Medicine Tropical Disease Department just had this to say —

Greg Abbott

Dr. Peter Hotez, the dean of the School of Tropical Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine, told CNN’s John Berman that the current situation in Texas represents the “greatest public health failure in the history of the nation,” and he warned that it will spiral out of control very quickly.

He says that the rise in cases is going up almost vertically. Hotez also said the state should consider going back into “full lockdown to get the spread of the virus back under control.”

But Greg Abbott still won’t issue a facemask rule because it’s communist or some damn thing.  We’ve got seatbelt rules and helmet rules in Texas but God forbid we do something that Donald Trump doesn’t do.

Trump wanted something that’s the greatest in the history of America?  Well, he’s got it.

Thanks to everybody for the heads up.

The re-opening of the NV casinos didn’t make it 3 weeks, before casino CEOs began issuing e-mails making the wearing of masks mandatory. There’s a lot of Plexiglas separating gamblers and employees, but people move around. Our numbers were never flattened, but any uptick should cause concern. Will be looking at the end of the month numbers to determine how concerned we should be in NV.

What G-butt is doing to Texas is criminally insane. Not only were your numbers ever close to flattened, G-butt has done nothing but appease Covidiot* 45 instead of protecting you guys. WTH is Hotez talking about? Hotez also said the state should consider going back into “full lockdown to get the spread of the virus back under control.” You were never remotely in anything near an effective social distancing and/or lockdown stance.

Or as Trump says: don’t worry about it. We have it totally under control.

I guess this is what we get for doing all that testing! His majesty is right – too many cases coming up due to testing. Excuse me while I bathe in Listerine!

I aspire, as i think a lot of us do, to the kind of national unity and purpose that many European countries displayed in uniting behind their wisest advisors to control the pandemic. Instead we’ve shown that Americans are selfish, distrustful, scientifically illiterate, and unpatriotic. No wonder the world has turned their backs on American leadership. Pax Americana has died, and we can thank Trump and his admirers like Abbott for driving several nails into the coffin.

Requiring masks seems to me kinda like forbidding folks pooping on the sidewalk. Are Texans also demanding their freedom to poop wherever they please? Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned it. Sorry.

Our idiot governor said, according to the Dallas Morning News, that Texas will only go under lockdown as a last resort. How many cases and dead do we need before it is a last resort? Cases have skyrocketed in Dallas County and this is not yet problem enough for him? You are right, Brad. The US is chock full of people who would rather they, their family, their friends, their neighbors all die of COVID before they will listen to anybody but Trump. I am getting pretty sick of this attitude that Americans don’t have to do anything they don’t want to, accompanied by the chest thumping and gun waving. There is a real sickness in this country that has nothing to do with anything medical.

Didn’t Abbott say something about it wasn’t a problem as long as they had hospital beds?

  8. Nothing to worry about folks. Don’t be fooled into wearing those devil masks.
Nobody’s gonna get sick unless baby Jesus wants them to.
So just make sure you go to church every Sunday. And sing as loud as you can so everybody can hear and know your not one of them devil worshippin’ commies. But it wouldn’t hurt to tithe 15% instead of your normal 10%.

The Evangelical GOP (God Of Profit) cares little for the poor, the compassionate, the meek, the Godless followers of the words of Jesus. If we’re not adding to the bottom line we don’t count as one of God’s ‘Muricans! Damn, I’m almost gonna miss them after they lose the Corona War.

  10. Jane & PKM says:

Tedinaustin @9 as an unlikely, however, enthusiastic fan of the rapture solution, I guess I could switch my ‘allegiance’ to wishing those cultists a “Devine coronavirus.” Failing that, if they disappoint us again, can’t we just tax them into debtors prison for nearly 400 years of unpaid taxes?

  11. I am so sorry.
I live in upstate NY and we had very few cases in my county but 4 deaths.
It was hard but we did it. Everything was in lockdown mode. We still have mandatory masks rule for stores . I feel safer with it on then off.
We will start phase 4 in a week or 2.
I worry when the Canadian border will open, July 21st
I have family and friends in NYC and in outlying suburbs
It was horrible for them. My sister knows 3 people who have died.
This is not over. I urge everybody to take it seriously and be prepared.
I feel sorry for people in states where the Gov will not protect people.
I did get to see my son and grandson this weekend. It had been 6 long months. My daughter comes tomorrow, am so excited to see her too!
That was the hardest, not see my family.

Saw a cute thing on Twitter that said.
If you don’t think you need to wear a mask because God will protect you, you don’t need anassault weapon for the same reason!

    Stay safe everyone.

Meanwhile in my blue science-loving state of Connecticut we had only 14 cases statewide yesterday. But you red staters, don’t think you can come here for safety. You’ll need to quarantine for 14 days.

Why do Republican officeholders always look so smug (Gov. Hogan of MD excepted)? What on earth do they have to be smug about? Texas is going to be a toxic mess for the foreseeable future, and it’s largely Abbott’s fault.

  14. charles phillips says:

I’m wondering when he’s going to admit he’s been fudging the Corona Virus death rate in Texas. With 131,000 confirmed cases, the death rate should be north of 4%, and it ain’t even 2%.

That’s 2293 deaths for every 131,193 confirmed cases; NOT possible.
